HT203425 Cannot sign into Mac App Store in Mountain Lion

When I initiate an update download through Software Update in Mac OS X 10.8.5, or when I try to log into the Mac App Store, after entering my account information the sign-in dialog box just sits there and the action icon spins, but nothing happens ... even after a very long time.  Bug in Mac OS?  Or something peculiar about account setup and accessing?  This is an amazingly persistent problem and is reventing software updates.  Any fixes?

  • How can't I sign into Mac App store?

I have two Mac Book Pro, one 13" using at Work and another 15" using at home. Everything is fine with MBP at home. I can use Mac App Store without any problem. But at office I guess it happened in last two weeks, I had a problem to sign in Mac App Store. I can navigate and look all apps in the Featured, Top Charts and Categories. But when I want to see Purchases, asks me to sign in. I enter my Apple ID and password correctly but it says "An unkown error has occured" and can't sign into Mac App Store. I've attached snapshot for this here. I searched forums and discussions on WEB and did many things like deleting files, ByHost, Network Pref etc. Everything I have seen on the WEB useful. But unfortunately couldn't pass that. I have other Apple products and my Apple ID works well at them also at WEB.
Yesterday, this problematic MBP at work installed updates for iPhoto and OSX Mountain Lion but didn't let me sign in.
Does anybody has a solution for that which is not written at discussion or at SERPs?
Thanks for the useful help, will appreciate deeply.

FYI, this article was a HUGE help.
Long story short, I activated the App Store debug menu and simply chose "Reset Application". I was good to go after that.

  • I cannot sign into the App Store...

I cannot sign into the App Store, update apps or use apps purchased. How can I fix this.
    I can sign into iTunes.
I am using a 3 month old MacBook Pro 17"
    running Snow Lep.  10.6.8

    Hi Carolyn,
    thank you for quick answer.
I've logged out from iTunes but nothing is changed with App Store.
It says that is impossible to connect.
    Do you have other suggestions?
Sorry, what is the OP ?

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

  • Trouble signing into mac app store for updates

The app store icon in my launchbar indicates that I have 3 updates available, and I would like to update.  So I click the "update" button next to each item, and I am asked to sign in with my apple ID.  I do, then I receive a message saying more info is needed, and I am redirected to a web site that explains what an Apple ID is and how to create one.  I know I am entering my ID and password correctly because when I try doing it another way, I get the "incorrect ID or password" mesage. And of course, I managed to sign in to the Apple Support Community.
So how do I get my updates?
    Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for this recommendation. After contacting iTunes support, here's the meat of the response I got:
Angela, I would suggest that you review your account's information using the iTunes application on your computer and then follow the steps below:
    1) Open iTunes.
    2) From the Store menu, choose Sign In.
    3) Enter your Apple ID and its password, and click Sign In.
    4) You will see a dialog saying this: "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store. Please review your account information." Click Review and follow the onscreen instructions to sign in with the account.
Followed these steps, then all I had to do was enter my credit card information (I never got to that screen before), and now my Apple ID is fully functional, so I can download apps from the mac app store and install my updates.  ...Yet more proof that money truly can buy happiness.
I hope I don't run into similar problems in the future...as a relatively new mac user, I would have expected the process of creating a freakin' ID to be somewhat more streamlined.
Anyway, if anyone else has the same issue, now you know what to do.  =)

  • Although I am new to mac, I am not new to computers and purchasing online.  I can't sign into the App store after installing Lion.  I have had to change my password 4 times in 2 days .  I am so sick of this.  I am trying to buy a tutorial for Lion.

I recently downloaded Lion and since have had nothing but problems with my new i-Mac.  My problem with the App store is only one issue.  Has anyone out there had any trouble with their components after installing Lion 10.7???????   After several hours on the phone with a tech my situation isn't any better.  I think the tech is sick of talking with me.  He was supposed to call me today and the phone never rang.   He told me he was working on something to repair my problems and needed to talk with engineers.  How long could that take????   If it wouldn't hurt the person who gifted me this i-Mac, I would give it back.

your itunes accoutn have nothing to d with your computer
you can go to any computer with internet access in the world and
login into your itunes account if you have the appleID and password
the itunes account is placed on apples itunes servers

  • How to reinstall Mac App Store on Mountain Lion?

    Hi,
after update to Mac OSX Mountain Lion I was not able to run App Store (it was still showing message "connection failed")...So I thought it was clever to uninstall it (with AppDelete) and then download it somehow and install it again. It wasn't.
I had even other small issues. Then I found out I can download the last update directly from Apple.com (OSXUpdCombo10.8.2) and it of course didn`t install App Store on my Mac. I also tried some geek stuff with Pacifist app and older combo updates..still not working.
I'm not IT talent...so PLEASE HELP ME.
    Frank

Reinstall OS X Mountain Lion. Press Command and R keys on boot and reinstall OS X Mountain Lion

  • Can't do any updates through Mac App Store for Mountain Lion

I am just wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
I have not seen anything posted around the internet, but when I try to check for a Software Update by using Apple Menu -> Software Update it tries to connect to the App Store and then says it is unavailable at this time, and I am using my schools wifi network, when I use my phone as a hotspot, it just tells me it can't connect to the App Store.
    Any ideas?

The servers may be busy. It happens.

  • I cannot sign into the APP Store to get new apps it keeps aSKING ME FOR MY PASSWORD AND REJECTS THE PASSWORD

RESET PASSWORD CONSTANTLY. SEEMS LIKE ITS OUT OF SYNC WITH ITUNES, HAVE GONE BACK TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS AND HAVE SYNC AGAIN WITH ITUNES SUCCESSFULLY
WHEN EVER i TRY TO DOWNLOIAD AN APP IT WILL REJECT THE PASSWORD. HAVE  RESET THE PASSWORD SEVERAL TIMES.  STILL CANNOT DOWNLOAD ANY NEW APPS

I'm having the same problem with my iPad Mini. I've decided after many attempts that it's Apple's problem, since I have no problem accessing the store and making purchases through my other devices. It's saving me a lot of money not being able to buy new apps and in-app purchases. And I'm not going to waste any time with Apple Support on it. They want my money, they can figure it out all on their own. Maybe Samsung is better with this sort of hiccup...

  • Sign into apple app store locked to other account.

    Hello
I worked for a Curry's DASIS / Ubiquity stand in store and sold my friend a Macbook Pro 13" MD102, the machine was sold off display at the time with a decent reduction.
Recently her iPhoto app is saying its out of date and needs to be updated, but when she goes to sign into the APP store when she tries to login the apple ID field is populated by a Apple ID she is unaware of and so am i, my thinking is that when the mac was on display perhaps someone has signed in with an apple ID.
What can i do to resolve this issue and permanently remove the unknown apple id so 1. she can use her Apple ID to sign in and 2. No data or apps or data are lost.
note: She has contacted the person who's apple ID was in there and they say they are happy to meet up to login but if they logged in how could i remove there account from the machine.
any Suggestions below is a screen picture she sent me of the issue
    Many Thanks

That solution is kinda dumb -.-
You asked for help. I have given you the correct solution to your issue because it involves more than the two apps. It involves the whole Mac.
Why I would reinstall the OSX just to change the ID Apple of an App?
I gave you the explanation in my answer.
It's time for you to move on. You have high-jacked another user's thread for your issue. You should start your own topic with the issue so as not to be carrying on a cross conversation.
Insulting folks who offer you the correct solution is no way to make folks want to continue to assist you here!

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted from the disc, the USB device, or Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • Why im i getting "an unknown error has occurred" message when i sign into the app store

Im getting "an unknown error has occurred" message when i sign into the app store. I don't have a problem signing into anything else. What could the problem be?

Were you able to find a solution to this issue? I am also getting the 'an error has occurred' message when trying to download or update any apps on my iPhone. Restarted, updated, re-booted, etc etc, nothing has worked.

  • I want to sign into the app store as another ID, but it is greyed out.

    Hey everyone,
I want to update my apps but I am having an issue.
When I click "update", this pops up
But that is not the apple ID I am signed into the app store as, nor the account I want to use to update things.
Why is it greyed out -- uneditable -- and how can I change that?
    Thanks!

OK so I was having this issue too but for some reason it was happening on Evernote. The user email that was populating the Apple ID field was for a previous user on the computer that, as far as I know, doesn't use Evernote at all. It only happened recently and as far as I knew all his user information was removed from this machine once we got a new one in the office?
Uninstalling and reinstalling worked but this behaviour seems very odd.
