HT203585 No Camera Available

Since my last upgrade, every time I try to use FaceTime on my mid-2013 MacBook Air 11", it tells me that there is "no camera available". The camera always worked perfectly well before. The camera also doesn't work with PhotoBooth or anything else anymore.
Does anyone have an idea of how to get the camera working again?  Seems like it started after upgrading to Yosemite.
TIA

if you have already tried all other relevant suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight, that error report is usually an indication of hardware failure.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
There are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  Unless you have a current backup, make one now.   Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion: "... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

Hi, I tried to use Face Time and my MBPro said there was no camera available.  Same thing happened when I tried to use Photo Booth.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

FaceTime and Photo Booth both require the built in iSight camera.

none of those options have changed the issue

  • Only Import from Camera available, everything else is greyed out!

    Hi there,
A user of mine is using iMovie 08 and after I start the app and go into File, I only have import from Camera available, everything else is greyed out and cant do anything.
I have delete prefs from Lib/Prefs and ~/Lib/Prefs, inc all com.apple.imovie and iapps pref files.
The only thing I havent tried yet is to rule out if its just the users account by logging in as another user,
    Cheers

This happens regularly for me (w. a FW800 card reader or with images already on the drive). I don't think it actually stops -- it just goes into deep background mode and does stop updating both the Activity window and the main app window.
I suspect some combination of limited hardware and a drive I/O glitch. I have never noticed it happened on Libraries which I store on external drives (yes, I do that) -- only on Libraries on the boot drive.
It (almost?) always clears when I close Safari. I don't know if this is specific to Safari, or that closing Safari releases the resources Aperture wants. I have closed everything but Safari, and seen the problem persist. Within 20 sec. of closing Safari, though, Aperture is back to steaming through the import.

Recently Apple replaced the hard drive on Mac running Yosmite 10.10.2 and now when i try to rn FaceTime, the computer says "no camera available". Does anyone no how to fix this?

Assuming there is no hardware problem try reinstalling Yosemite. If this does not work then take it back to the Apple Store.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Please make the camera available on the single-click lock screen.

It just makes sense.  People want the camera readily available.  Having it on the double-click lock screen is good.  Having it on the single-click lock screen is better.
    It's that simple.
Also, double-clicking the home button is hit-or-miss at best.  At worst, it just plain *****.
Please put the camera on the single-click lock screen.

    Hi Dan,

  • "No Camera available" error message when trying to FaceTime or Skype on my MacBook Pro

I have a 15" early 2008 MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), 4 Gigs RAM with a built in camera (In Sight) that stopped working over a year ago when I had Mavericks installed.  I had hoped that installing OS X Yosemite would solve the problem but it has not.
I suspect it's a matter of missing drivers as opposed to a broken camera.
I would appreciate any bright ideas the community can provide.

    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • When I try to use iSight with iMovie and it says no camera available in iMovie '08

iSight won't connect in iMovie... HELP! I found an article regarding the issue but I think the version of iMovie was different than what I have because it really did me no good.

Here are my suggestions for your iMovie '08 problem.
One of them will resolve your trouble.  Try them in
any order you like, testing camera function after
each one until you have found the one that worked.
    •  If you have not already done so, restart Mac and
try again.  A simple restart often clears up minor
        issues, including yours.
    • I am using iMovie '11 with no problems.  Some
problems have been reported with the iMovie 9.06.
However, I can't find compatibility info for ver 8.
If possible, consider updating to this latest iMovie:
        http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/
    • Try Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions. The specific "reset" procedure suggested
there for your particular MBP model often restores normal function.
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS,
the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1581
(yes, use this Combo even though you are already running 10.8.2)
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.   Then check whether your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command tell you that other updates are needed.  If so, apply them and finish with another permissions repair.
    • If you still have problems after properly applying the Combo,
try OS X's Recovery feature http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
to repair your hard drive or, if all else fails, reinstall a fresh copy of OS X.
    • Properly applying the latest Combo update or repairing or
reinstalling OS X can usually correct software problems.
However, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem,
there are no user serviceable parts of your webcam.
For hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • BlueTooth digital cameras available yet?

Having a BlueTooth cellphone and transferring photo files from phone to my iMac is so fast and simple that I am wondering if there are any smallish BlueTooth digital cameras on the market (the smaller the better). Although Firewire is terrific, it pales in comparison to BlueTooth when I have one or two photos to transfer.
    Hoping to hear any ideas......

17" flat screen iMac, 1GHz, Pwr PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   LaCie external hard drive, 111 Gigabytes

It would be much faster when using a cell phone
because the image are low resolution, making the size
of the files far smaller than with a megapixel camera.
HMMM. Then I would ask someone with, say, a 2 megapixel camera and check to see how long BlueTooth file transfers take. If a VGA takes a second or two, then a megapixel file would take, ok, let's say FIVE seconds. That is not bad to me. But this might be a moot subject anyhow, since I have since done some research and see that BlueTooth digital cameras are not that prevalent and would probably be quite costly at this stage. -Lorna

  • When are there going to be more Sony DSC-WX9 cameras available???

We had to get our brand new camera replaced under the 3 year contract, but you didn't have any more at the time. It's been 2 weeks since we got the store credit. Where are the new cameras???

None of your fellow users here on these forums know and Apple's not telling.

  • I started an account on iTunes when iPod first came available. Bought several iPods in that time. Eventually I changed my email address and continued to buy music and games.  Now I have 2 Apple ID. How can I get everything on one ID?

I have 2 Apple ID. One old on yahoo I don't use, and another on gmail I use regularly. How can I drop the yahoo Apple ID while still keeping all music and other apps?  I want everything on my latest apple devices and want to do so with just one account, Apple ID and password..

    -The specific point:
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

I have a 2 year old iPad updated to iOS 7.03.  For some reason "Personal Hotspot" does not even come up as an option in " Settings" .  I do not know if it was there in previous iOS versions as I've only just heard of it.  I have tried it on 3G and WiFi.  I have entirely deleted my WiFi and rebooted the iPad, all with no joy.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
