HT203612 "Displaying the edited photo requires OS X v10.9 or later...But...

"Displaying the edited photo requires OS X v10.9 or later and software that can read XMP. The following applications support XMP:
iPhoto 9.5 or later
iPhoto for iOS..."
I am running OS X version beyond v10.9 and also later than iPhoto 9.5 or later, yet iPhoto does not appear to read the XMP edits performed on my phone and keep them or give the option in iPhoto to keep edits or revert to the original.  Non destructive editing is great, but it'd be nice to access applied edits!
Any thought?
~Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as the OP.  I am running the following hardware:
iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.2 (12B440)
iPad Air 2 128GB (4G/LTE & wifi) with iOS 8.1.2 (12B440)
MacBook 13", circa 2008, model A1278
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
OS X 10.9.5
iPhoto 9.5.1
Like the OP above, everything I have meets the letter of HT203612.
I just returned from a trip overseas where I loaded my pictures from my DSLR (a Canon EOS Rebel XSi) to my iPad via a Monster Electronics On-The-Go Cloud.  I saved them to my Camera Roll via the "save photo" function in Safari and edited them on the iPad.  They still display edited natively on the iPad, but when synced to my Mac, they migrated over as originals.  I ended up having to reedit in iPhoto, thus doubling my work.
Doesn't saving photos from Safari into your Camera Roll convert the file to something XMP-friendly?

  • Non-Display of edited photos in Bridge

I use Elements 8 and Bridge CS4 on a Mac.  After editing a photo in Elements the edited version doesn't appear in Bridge until I have Refreshed which takes 3-4 minutes each time.  A couple of times the edited photos have appeared in Bridge immediately once they have been closed in Elements so it can work!  Anyone know how I can get the edited pics always to display immediately without having the delay that Refreshing causes?

Try going to the bridge prefs>cache>purge cache. It iwll need to rebuild the cache, but hopefully after that it should be better. If not, go to your username>library>preferences and delete com.adobe.bridgex.plist (x  will be a number).
Or restart bridge while holding down command+shift+option and turn on every checkbox in that window.

  • What happens to the original photo after editing?  Does it get replaced by the edited photo?

I just bought my first iPhone(5).  On Android, when editing a photo, the original stays in your gallery and the edited photo gets placed right next to it.  So what I want to know is, When editing a photo in the photo app, what happens to the original since it would be nice to be able to make different edits of it.

That is an excellent question. This is definitely not the programmed behavior of Photoshop Elements. Normally, when you edit a file, a new copy of the file is created (the original is simply left alone). This new copy of the file will have "_edited-1" added to the end of the name. It should definitely not be adding $ to the name at all.
Just as a test, create a new user account on your computer, and try editing another image to see if does the same thing there. However, I suspect there is another application on your computer that is modifying how files are saved, deleted, and renamed.

  • How can I make the edited photo appear in my folder?

Hi! This is my first post here, and I've just acquired Lightroom after having worked with ACDSee Pro (currently v6) for some years. I love taking photos and editing them later if necessary.
I understand that LR works differently to ACDSee, with the catalogue and all, and I've successfully imported my picture folders into my new LR catalogue. What I haven't yet been able to grasp is what LR does with my edited photos. When I edit (develop) a picture in ACDSee, the edited version of that photo appears in my original folder as soon as I have finished editing it.
With LR, after having done my processing all I can see in my folder is the original, unedited picture. The edits are only visible in LR, but not anywhere else. I'd like to see the edited photo in my folder so that I can use it, for example, for screen saver slide shows. I don't want to go and look for this edited picture in any place other than its original folder, and neither do I want to have two copies of it, namely the original and the edited version, in that folder. All I care for at this point is the edited version since the original can be restored at any time from within LR, or at least I think this how it should be since that's how I did it with ACDSee if I wanted to go back to the original picture.
Is there any way I can achieve what I'm looking for with LR?
Thank you very much for your assistance for a total LR beginner.

I don't think this is possible, given the normal way Lightroom works. You have the original (the image contained in this file is never modified by Lightroom) and you will have the export.
Note: you could instruct Lightroom to overwrite your original (if it was a JPG or TIF or PSD, but not a RAW), however this is extremely discouraged and your original would be gone. Your assumption "since the original can be restored at any time from within LR" is incorrect, that is not how Lightroom works if you overwrite the original JPG TIF or PSD (which of course is just one of several reasons why this approach is extremely discouraged).

  • Over half my albums in iPhoto won't display the enlarged photo. How can I correct this?

Over half my albums in iPhoto won't display the enlarged photo. How can I correct this?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • I have set up photoshop elements as external editor in iPhoto but I cannot get the edited photo to open in iPhoto. When I save the photo Elements asks where do I want to save it and iPhoto is not an option.

I have set up Photoshop Elements11 as the External Editor in iPhoto just as Terence Devlin said. However when I save the edited photo it does not appear in iPhoto. A drop down menu asks where I want to save the photo and I do not know what to choose. Also should I choose, "save" or "save as"? I should be really grateful for your help.

I suggest opening iPhoto and reverting back to iPhoto in the Preferences for photo editing. Quit iPhoto. Restart your Mac for good measure. Open iPhoto and again choose Photoshop Elements in Preferences as the editing app.
As far as editing, I don't have PE, but I have another editing app form the Mac App Store, ColorStrokes. I have been experimenting with using it for editing iPhoto photos and it works flawlessly. After setting ColorStroke as the editing app, I open a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button in the menu bar below the photo. Color Stoke immediately opens with the photo and I complete my editing. When I have finished editing I choose to Save the photo, leave the name the same and agree to replace the iPhoto photo of the same name. I quit ColorStroke and the photo in iPhoto now has all of my edits from ColorStroke.
Should I decide that I prefer the original photo, I open the photo in iPhoto and choose Revert to Original in the Photos pulldown menu.

  • HTML Client: How to display the edit screen of an item given its ID?

To edit a selected item, I could easily add a new button on the command line and choose the existing method, "editSelected"
But how to edit another item instead of the selected item? Like How to edit an item whose ID # is 10? i.e How to display the edit screen for an item with ID # 10?

The methods such as 'editSelected' apply to screen property collections. Picking these pre-selected options automatically configure the parameter as '<my-collection>.selectedItem'.
If you want an action not directly related to the screen properties then you can choose one of the screen commands under the 'Navigation' list starting with 'show', as in 'show<my-screen-name'. If the screen command accepts parameters then you can
configure the parameter passing manually. In your example, if you added a local 'int' data property to the screen you could assign the ID to that and bind the parameter passed to the screen to that.
In the instances when not even that is sufficient, well then you write your own custom method.

  • After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo bank into my iPhoto library. The "Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case before the latest PE13 RAW update versio

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done
to reimport edited photos back into my iPhoto library? Ideas?

Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)
    Set the drop-down dialog
On First Save : Save Over Current File
    Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As)

yeah, in itunes if you select your phone, you should get tabs across the top for what to sync, under photos uncheck the box
EDIT: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 is the link to a apple support document with information on syncing photos using itunes.

  • After editing in perfect photo I cannot unstack the edited photo in LR4.

After editing in perfect photo I cannot unstack the edited photo in LR4. The thumbnail shows the number of photos in the stack, but right click/expand stack has no effect. The edited photo is not showing.

The edited photo (assumed to be a TIFF, created via Edit In or an Export plugin) might need to be added to the catalogue. The plugin should arguably do this but I’ve had issues in the past where this didn’t happen. Try adding the newly edited image using the Import dialogue - any images in the folder not already in the catalogue will be ticked.
NB You might find the newly added image on the far right of the filmstrip.

Have a look at your import setting specifically Store Files:
Make sure it is set to where you want the originals to go.

I have the same thing happening on my iPod Touch 5th gen. Been happening for at least a month. I have updated to the most recent version of iOS which hasn't solved the issue. Must be a bug that they didn't get around to resolving yet, a year later. Really annoying to have it pop up when you are in the middle of a game though.
