HT203646 No bluetooth in yosemite

I can't get bluetooth to work at all - won't find my mouse.
this is more like a windoze update, where devices stop working
yes, it's on, yes it works, yes I tried the power down for 2 minutes with all usb unplugged

Hi cayennep.net,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the computer is not recognizing the mouse. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Bluetooth problem Yosemite

I bought a new iMac 21,5 with wireless keyboard and the Magic Mouse.
I've been using it for about two weeks now and everything was working fine, until i installed the new OSX Yosemite when it released.
Now, about 10x an hour the computer loses the bluetooth connection with the keyboard.
This is very annoying, since i use it for 3D drawing, and everytime it loses connection, i have to fill in the numbers again.
I've read on the internet that a lot of people share these problems.
Is Apple coming with a solution or update? Or can i fix this myself?
Read something about resetting RAM etc as well. But since my computer is new, I dont think that'll do it.
    Thank you very much.

I had the bluetooth problem where my MacBook Pro wouldn't reconnect to my external bluetooth keyboard after the initial connect when I upgraded to Yosemite. I found the solution in another thread from nashntk:  "everything were solved by resetting SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)."
So far, the SMC reset fixed all of my bluetooth issues after the Yosemite upgrade. And it seems to be an ongoing solution as one reset has allowed me to disconnect and reconnect again multiple times.

  • Harman Kardon SoundSticks Wireless bluetooth on Yosemite problem

    Hi there,
Since upgraded to Yosemite, I have problems with re-connecting my Harman Kardon SoundSticks Wireless (via bluetooth) to MacBook Pro (retina 15" late 2013). Every time when that happen, I need to restart the speakers to make them connect again.
Is there some solution for this problem?
    Cheers!

I’m having the exact same problem but with the Harman Kardon Esquire Mini, also on the Macbook Pro, same year as yours. It started when I still had Mountain Lion iOS. They first said it was a hardware problem then installed Yosemite as the fix. It did not fix it. My Mac will not pair with hubby's JBL bluetooth speaker either. And the HK speaker works fine with all our other devices.

  • Bluetooth after Yosemite bad connection MP2010

Is anyone experiencing poor bluetooth connection with a MacPro 2010?
The magic mouse loses connection a lot only after installing Yosemite.
tried two different ones, new batteries etc.

I had handoff/community working fine on Tuesday and early on Wednesday (in the UK) and suddenly it stopped working and I couldn't then - or subsequently - get my iMac Bluetooth to connect with my iPad and iPhone.  I have tried absolutely everything several times - turning everything off/logging out and going back in again, switching things off and then on again and still no result.  It obviously wasn't anything i'd altered because it was working and then suddenly wasn't working and I had done nothing to cause this.   Bluetooth still works perfectly with my mouse and keyboard and they, like my iPad and iPhone are within 12 inches if my iMac.
I wasted ah hour on the phone to Apple Support people on Wednesday getting them to try to help me but they were always one step behind me and each time i spoke to a different person (three of them) I had to give the same information to them all over again.  I suggested several times that if only they would admit to me that there's a problem with their software I would accept that and he happier but they wouldn't do this and I'm no better off now.  Added to that the initial process of getting past the recorded options when you ring is obviously designed to put people off ringing.
Anecdotal evidence here and in general conversation indicates that my problems are very common.
Does any one have any bright ideas, please?
Is there any chance of Apple admitting its their fault and promising an update to fix the bug?

  • Bluetooth interferes with WiFi in Yosemite 10.10 (reproducible)

There is a long (40 pages so far) thread about WiFi issues with Yosemite. However, I believe it has become a catchall thread for all kinds of connectivity problems and a growing number of "solutions" address only a few of them.
So I wanted to start a separate thread about a very specific issue I found to be easily reproducible: turning on Bluetooth in Yosemite 10.10 interferes with WiFi, lowering the bandwidth in a measurable way. I have tested this on two different MacBook Pro Retina (mid-2011 and late-2013) and an Apple Airport router.
To test is yourself do the following:
Move away from the WiFi access point so the signal is not at full strength
    Turn Bluetooth Off
Visit speedtest.net and run a speed test a handful of times (average the results discarding the outliers, i.e. the fastest and the slowest)
    Turn Bluetooth On
Repeat Step 2 and compare results
In my case I see a 30% drop in download speed and about a 50% drop in upload speed. I'm not a hardware/radio engineer but I think it's pretty clear that the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers for the initial release version of Yosemite are causing some kind of interference. This is obviously wrong. Unless there is a programmable parameter that can be tweaked for these drivers, I doubt there is anything we can do about it until Apple releases an update with 10.10.1.
Turning off Bluetooth is an obvious fix for the WiFi issues but it is clearly not useful if you depend on Bluetooth accessories and defeats the purpose of may cool Yosemite features like Handoff.
Is anybody else seeing this in their environment?

I also still see the problem with 10.10.2
I posted these stats in the WiFi problems thread (>150 pages by now) but I'll post it here as well:

  • Yosemite/Safari/iTunes/Bluetooth

In the middle of using my computer, while on Safari, listening to iTunes, a song will stop and a super loud white noise at volume 11 takes over and won't stop unless I push pause, close my MacBook and/or shut off the power to my bluetooth speaker.  This never happened prior to Yosemite.  Please help me stop this.  The noise is insanely alarming and scares **** out of me and my cats because it happens for no discernible reason or cause (except when switch from one web page to another).
    Thank you.

SMC and PVRAM resets do not change the issue with Bluetooth and Yosemite view this threadSudden loud static noise on bluetooth headset and you'll find many of us have exactly same problem that hasn't changed loud outbursts and dropped connection as well as mouse and keyboard losing connectivity only this trick helped me but not a fix for outburstsThe standard setting prevents conflict with other Bluetooth devices. If you'd like better audio though, you can change the settings with this terminal command:
defaults write com.apple.BluetoothAudioAgent "Apple Bitpool Min (editable)" -int 40
This command works in other versions of OS X, but the Bluetooth Audio problems seem worse in Yosemite than previous versions. The number 40 is the sound quality setting. Note: a higher number could cause compatibility problems with other Bluetooth devices, so start at 40 and work your way up.

  • Wifi menu kills bluetooth connection

This is very weird behaviour.  I have a Kaiser Baas bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad.  I also use wifi to connect to the internet via my modem-router.
Since installing Yosemite, the keyboard looses its connection to my Mac Mini if I move the mouse pointer and hover over the Wifi menu.  However, that is only if the Mac Mini was not able to make a wifi connection.
For some reason, my Mac Mini doesn't always see my router's broadcast ssid.  When that happens, the wifi menu looks like a giant version of what it looks when connected.  I turn wifi off and on and still it can't see my router.  Strange because it can see three other wifi spots in my suburb.  Then, if I put the Mac Mini to sleep and wake it again, yes, it can see the ssid and connects automatically.
Then, the problem with my bluetooth keyboard is solved too.
Just what is going on with wifi and bluetooth in Yosemite.  OS X networking has always been fragile, flaky and temperamental but this is getting especially obtuse.
Has anyone seen this behaviour ?
    Garry

Thanks. I'll try a different keyboard-trackpad-mouse and look for more reports on wifi problems.  I've not yet found any on theses discussions boards which involve both bluetooth and wifi but, as 10.10 is still young it might be developing.
The Kaiser Baas is not very suited to OS X although they say it is compatible.  It works but, the Trackpad prefs pane doesn't recognise it and the mouse pane options don't work very well with it either.  So, it could be related to the problem.  Still, I don't understand why it should lose the bluetooth connection just because I've accessed the wifi menu.
    Cheers.

  • I want rid of Yosemite but can't do it! (Bluetooth issue)

I should have heeded the warning signs! I've been running Yosemite since the end of October and, despite the fact that my well-used Macbook Pro is already five years old, it's made life frustratingly slow. But I took that as a sign that I needed to streamline my ageing Mac down, free up some space, get rid of unused apps etc (which never made any difference to how well the computer runs, btw). I recently got bought a wireless Bose speaker and am rather annoyed to find that Bluetooth doesn't work anymore. I'm pretty sure that happened when I installed Yosemite.
And the Bluetooth totally does not work. It's crossed out at the top of the screen, 'Bluetooth not available', doesn't show up in System Preferences; it's totally gone. Many hours last night were spent trying to fix this problem. I've reset the SMC, PRAM; just about every solution offered on the Apple forums for this problem, I've tried. Nothing works. So I thought it would be a good idea to just get rid of Yosemite once and for all.
I didn't have a backup of my previous version of Mavericks, but I found it on My Purchases page on the App Store. Only spent about 5 hours waiting for that to download, and then the dialog box casually informs me that 'This copy of the 'Install OS X' application is too old to be opened on this version of OS X'. GROAN!
What the heck can I do to get rid of Yosemite? I despise it, but am willing to upgrade to the next version if this problem will get fixed. How can I get my Bluetooth back without having to take it into a Mac store and probably pay the flat rate just to get this little niggle fixed? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In order to go 'backwards', you need to erase your hard drive - Macs have never supported going to an older OS version while the newer version is installed. So, once you have a bootable installer, boot from that, erase your drive and then install.
As you will lose all your files, make sure you have a good backup first.

  • Problems Report: Yosemite Language/Region and iOS 8.0.2 Bluetooth

    OS X YOSEMITE LANGUAGE/REGION PROBLEM:
Since I installed OS X Yosemite (10.10) on my 13 inch Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013, my Finder's Favorites and Tags appears in two different languages (English and Portuguese). I am from Brazil, however, I use my system in English. Whereas I set my language to English, my Finder should appear only in English.
As you can see, until Desktop option is in English, below it, everything is in Portuguese. Note that in Mavericks everything appeared in English as it should be. Same for the Tags, which is "Vermelho" instead of "Red" and so on, but "All tags" appears in English, instead of Portuguese.
Please Apple, do not forget to correct it for the next upgrade!
    iOS 8.0.2 BLUETOOTH PROBLEM:
Another problem I want to report is my iPhone 5S (iOS 8.0.2) Bluetooth connection, which has a big issue. Since iOS 8.0.2 upgrade, I could not use my Bluetooth anymore. My device can be found from other devices, such as my Macbook Pro, for example, however, I am not able to pair or even find any other device from my iPhone to others.
Hence, I am not able to use Handoff, connect to the car's DVD player, Headphones and so on.
What is going on there, Apple? Both this problems are amateurs. What is happening with the Test Software Engineering phase.
I was wondering if it would be possible to see some great news about both of this issues as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance for any further help from you guys.

  • How can i fix my wifi and bluetooth issues in yosemite?

Hi, after upgrading to Yosemite I've noticed that my bluetooth trackpad (Logitech t651) and wifi connection are having serious conflicts which result in sluggish trackpad response or occasional wifi connection drops.
I would have some occasional sluggishness with my trackpad in Mavericks but it would never lead to dropping of my wifi connection. Here is a little more about my configuration, my wifi connection is 2.4ghz, I have read that upgrading to 5GHZ would solve this problem but this would of course require me to purchase a new router which I would like to avoid. I have noticed that if i turn off my wifi, my trackpad is 100% smooth and responsive so the two issues are definitely connected. Does anyone have solution to fix this problem that doesn't include changing the wifi broadcast channel (which I've already tried), switching to 5GHZ, or utilizing an ethernet connection? Thanks

I think I'm having a similar problem, my wifi disconnects when a bluetooth device is connected to the MBA.
I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012) with WiFi and Apple Trackpad.  I'm unable to use the trackpad(bluetooth) and wifi at the same time.  If I turn off the trackpad then the wifi works fine and if I shutoff the wifi then the trackpad works fine.  This configuration was working fine prior to upgrading to Yosemite.
I experienced the same problem at home and at the office.
    Additional test:
I turned off the bluetooth trackpad and connected my bluetooth headphones to the MBA.  The wifi disconnected as soon as I paired the headphones with the MBA.
I have had no problems with the MBA's keyboard or integrated trackpad.

  • Problem with bluetooth connection between iPhone 5s iOS 8.1.2 and MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Yosemite 10.10.1

After the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 in iPhone 5s and OS X 10.1.1 Yosemite (MacBook Pro Mid 2012) can not connect my iPhone 5s to the MacBook, the iPhone tells me: "The MacBook is incompatible" or the message "Connection Error, Make sure the Mac is turned on and is within range" even the iPhone being close to the Mac. Otherwise with the updated iPad 2 (iOS 8.1.2) is connected via bluetooth to the MacBook without any problems, Even the iPad 2 does not detect the iPhone bluetooth.

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722
If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458

  • Bluetooth not available MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) Yosemite

Hi guys, I've been having a problem lately and I can't find a fix for it. My problem is my bluetooth button on the top menu bar had a black squiggly line through it then when I click on it, it says "Bluetooth: Not Available". When I go to system preferences the tab for bluetooth isn't even there its just gone all there is is network. I am trying to connect my magic mouse which has worked fine until now, I had this problem in Mavericks and upgraded to Yosemite to see if that would fix it, Also please note I have tried Resetting PRAM, Deleting the bluetooth files, and Force-quitting "blued" which didn't do anything.

Well then, unfortunately for you, the conclusion becomes clear: your BlueTooth isn't working correctly anymore.
You can try reinstalling OS X from the Recovery Partition - boot your computer with the [cmd] + [r] keys pressed until you see a Utilities window - but since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite pretty much amounts to a reinstall anyway I am not giving it much of a chance at success. Still, won't hurt though. Contact AppleCare for warranty options.

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • "Bluetooth: Not Available" after upgrading to Yosemite

    Hello everyone,
I just upgraded my MacBook Pro (15" with retina) to Yosemite this morning, and could not use my wireless trackpad correctly anymore (i can't scroll or swipe)
The bluetooth icon in status bar is grey and says "Bluetooth: Not Available"
The weird thing is, i'm still using my wireless keyboard and trackpad (i can move the pointer and left-click).
So the bluetooth module is somehow still working.
I tried deleting the "com.apple.bluetooth.plist" file, and the SMC reset "fix".
But it is still .. it remains "not available".
    Any ideas ?

    Hey there CesarD,
It sounds like your wireless keyboard and trackpad do seem to be working but for some reason the bluetooth icon is grey and you get a message saying that bluetooth is unavailable, even after deleting the bluetooth plist file, and resetting the SMC. I would next do these steps from the following article found here:
OS X: Bluetooth devices become unresponsive
Shut down your Mac, disconnect all USB devices for two minutes, start up, and re-connect your USB devices once again.
If the issue persists, I would next reset your PRAM for good measure:
OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Bluetooth issues on Yosemite

I have a Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012. Never had any issue before upgrading to Yosemite, but after upgrading my bluetooth does not work anymore if I boot the Mac without keeping the power adapter plugged in. The Bluetooth internal adapter does not recognize any device anymore e(even re-paring does not work).
If I plug the power adapter the situation does not change.
If I disable bluetooth, then disable wifi, than re enable bluetooth, it works. And I can also re enable the wifi.
If I reboot WITH the adapter plugged in, there is no issue at all.
Does anybody have a fix solution?
Clearing the PRAM did not help.

At first my MacBookPro (Yosemite) would not recognize my iHome speaker.  Then, I discovered that I had to have the positioning of the iHome speaker exact - and it would recognize it.
I discovered this accidentally.  It  happened that I had my iPhone by the MacBook Pro while I was trying to pair the laptop with the iHome - and I had the bluetooth window open on the laptop.  I picked up the phone to use, and suddenly the iPhone appeared on the MacBook's Bluetooth screen ready for pairing. The laptop's bluetooth recognized the iPhone and gave me the icon ready pairing with it . I then moved the iPhone a few inches away, and it's icon disappeared from my laptop's bluetooth screen.
So, then I moved the iPhone around until I found which position it needed to be in for the laptop to recognize it.  Then I put the iHome speaker in that same position and tried the pairing again. I turned off the speaker (but not the laptop), turned it on again and pressed the pairing button on the back of the iHome speaker, and then this time the iHome icon did iappear in the MacBook Pro's Bluetooth menu and they successfully paired.
