You carrier needs to provide that for you.  If it has then go to settings/general/cellular and then turn hotspot on

you don't need to use iTunes to restore your old phone to factory settings.
Just go into settings on your old iPhone and reset .. it will take it back to factory set-up with the cable showing on the front of the screen.  All your content will be permanently erased from the old iPhone.

What phone company do you use. There needs to be more information about what is exactly going wrong. Becasue if you are in the USA then the hotspot feature can be turned off and on by the carrier, Such as what Verizon does, if you do not pay for the feature. If that is not the issue then there would have to be a software problem, which there are a few solutions to. One being take it to the apple store and letting them fix it, if it is not an issue with your phone company

  • Personal hotspot name and not working

I changed the name of my iPhone in settings, General, about, and after that my personal hotspot stopped working. I was able to fix it by changing the password for the hotspot. I changed it to the same password it was already set to. That made it start working. Just wanted to let people know because it might be helpful to others.

We're an Apple family (but maybe not for much longer). Long story cut short ... have three MacBooks and one iMac and two iPhone4s all tethered using Apple USB cables.
All iPhone4s have been working fine with all computers until one iPhone suddenly, and for no apparent reason, would not work with one particular MacBook Pro (15" and Lion pre-installed, iTunes 11.0.1 upgrade) via the USB.
The thing worked on Wi-Fi for a few days after but now the MacBook Pro (15") cannot detect the iPhone's network. It has never worked on Bluetooth.
This phone still works with the other MacBook Pro (13" and Mountain Lion pre-installed, iTunes 11.0.1 pre-installed) and the iMac (21" and Lion upgrade, iTunes 11.0 upgrade). It also works fine with the white MacBook (13') we have from way back in 2010 (running Leopard).
    Both iPhone4s run on OSX6.1 (10B144)
Funny thing also, the OTHER IPhone 4 works fine with this MacBook Pro (15") which leads me to suspect that it is the configuration of this particular iPhone4 and this particular MacBook Pro (15") that has somehow gone awry - they have become incompatable for some inexplicable (to me) reason.
Also, it's not the USB cable that's at fault - the MacBook Pro (15") still recognises this iPhone for ITunes synch.
Knowing now that this problem was becoming widespread, we enquired at the Appe store but their only recommendation was for us to buy new equipment. Given the MacBook Pro in question is only six months old, my response was to ask them to investigate and fix it under warranty. The staff just shrugged their shoulders and turned away to sell more new Apple gear to other customers.
Luckily, we are able to shuffle iPhones and computers around waiting for Apple to take responsibility in recognising the problem and then to issue a fix.
Oh hum ... now where's that number for Samsung on-line sales?

  • "Block person" selction on iMessages not enabling

I have followed the instructions in Mountain Lion OSX10.8.5 on how to block someone from iMessages, but when I try it, the "Block person" selection will not highlight in order to enable me to select it. I highlight the conversation on the left or the message window as instructed, and the "Block person" option never highlights. Any advice? Thanks.

I had the same exact issue and solved it after realizing that my iphone was configured with a @mac.com address and the ipad was with the @me.com that we can also use interchangeably. I set both devices to the @mac.com variant of my Apple ID and bingo! All as advertized!

  • Disappointed that personal hotspot not enabled in new iPads

    Dear Apple,
I currently own a iPad, the original one, and was eagerly awaiting the release of the new iPad in Singapore.
I was going to buy it soon, but I read in Digital Life today, the IT pull out in the Singapore newspapers that the personal hotspot feature is not enabled for iPads sold here.
    Why is this so?
Singapore telecommunications regulations does not allow telcos to lock devices, even if customers bought devices with subsidies. At the same, Singapore consumers can purchase iPads from non telco retailers.
Why are the interest of telcos put ahead of consumers? As consumers, we can purchase devices and services separately, and combine them in any way we see fit.
Please enable this feature, otherwise I will sit on the sidelines, and continue using my original iPad.
For potential new iPad customers, please like this post so Apple know how important this issue is for their customers.
    Thank you.
    Alex C.

I don't understand the logic of applying the norm in US to Singapore.
There are 3 mobile providers in Singapore, all running on GSM. Telecommunications regulations bar telcos from locking handsets, and the penetration rate of mobile phones is higher than 100%, which means there are quite a few people who carry more than 1 phone around.
There is no limitation of tethering in Singapore by the telcos, the competition is such that the first telco who tries to force the rule onto their customers, would start seeing customer defections very quickly.
For my case, I subscribed to a mobile broadband plan that equipped me with a mobile wifi router, and then I cut the SIM card to size and placed it in my iPad. Why should I need permission from my telco to enable tethering? It was meant to be tethered to in the first place.

  • Personal Hotspot for my iPhone 4 (32GB) is not available after updating to iOS 7.1, why is that so?

Dear all, may I get a solution to solve the problem for my Personal Hotspot which is not functioning after updating to iOS 7.1?
I am U Mobile user from Malaysia, before updating to iOS 7.1, everything seems to be fined.
The problem only occurs after I have updated to iOS 7.1.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)
You can also try: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

  • Personal Hotspots Now Listed Under WiFi - Cannot Connect

    Strange problem.
I have an IPad Air that I enable Personal Hotspot.  Works great on my Mac, works great on an iPhone 5s, works great on iPhone 6 Plus.  On iPhone 6, I cannot connect.  All iOS devices are running iOS 8.0.  Strange thing, on the one that it is not able to connect, there is a new "Personal Hotspots" area under WiFi.  The other devices have the Personal Hotspot show up with the other WiFi hotspots - these can connect without issue.
I thought there was a new feature in iOS8 that allowed one device to automatically enable the hotspot of another iOS device, so I tried disabling the personal hotspot on the iPad Air and get the same error.  See enclosed pictures, notice how the iPad Air shows up in two different locations, when under WiFi, it connects.  When listed under "Personal Hotspots" it does not connect.

    In Settings -> Cellular
    I get:
    Cellular Data (on)
    Enable LTE (on)
    Data Roaming (off)
Cellular data Network (for APN option)
    Call time
    Cellular data usage
    User cellular data for...
    Reset statistics
    That's it

  • After the last update(7.1.2) i couldn't find personal hotspot in my iPad 2.

after the last update(7.1.2) i couldn't find personal hotspot in my iPad 2 Wifi+Cellular. I did everything like reset network setting, restore to factory setting and set up as a new iPad but no change. My iPhone 5's carrier is 16.2 and after update to 7.1.2 it automatically ask me for carrier update but my iPad 2 ask nothing and the carrier is 16.1. Please, help me to solve this problem.

The Personal Hotspot feature is not available on the iPad 2. I have no idea how you could have been using it before as you claim. BTW, your screenshots do not show up.
    System requirements
The table below lists the iPhone and iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular models) capable of Personal Hotspot and which connections they can use to share cellular data with another device:
    USB
    Bluetooth
    Wi-Fi
    iPhone 4 or later

    iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G*

iPad (3rd generation or later) Wi-Fi + Cellular

    iPad mini Wi-Fi + Cellular

    * On iPhone 3G, Personal Hotspot is referred to as Internet tethering.
To connect to a Personal Hotspot, your device requires:
    Wi-Fi: Support for 802.11g/n using WPA2 encryption.
USB: Mac or PC with iTunes 9.2 or later installed.
Bluetooth: Mac OS X v10.4.11 or Windows.

  • Connecting to Personal Hotspot via Bluetooth?

Last night I discovered my daughter can connect her iPod Touch 5 (iOS 8.0.2) to my iPhone 5 (also iOS 8.0.2) using the Personal Hotspot function (via Bluetooth) even when Personal Hotspot is set to OFF on my phone.  Is that really working as intended by Apple?
If she tries to connect via WIFI, she cannot unless I have the Personal Hotspot set to ON.  OK good, that makes sense!
If she connects via Bluetooth though, she always sees my phone and if she selects that connection, it turns my Personal Hotspot on my phone from OFF to ON.  That just seems odd to me.  I'd prefer to restrict that.  I have noticed that even if I change my password on the Personal Hotspot, it does not matter.  If she selects that connection via Bluetooth, BOOM...  It changes it on my phone from OFF to ON.
Anyone else notice this?  Sure, I can turn off Bluetooth on my phone to stop it, but I use BT quite a bit for speakers and in my car.  I usually prefer to leave it ON.  She also uses BT for her wireless speaker.
IMO, Apple should change that to if I have my personal Hotspot set to OFF, it should not be visible at all unless I turn it ON (like it works over the wifi connection).
