  • HT204023 Personal Hotspot: Which is better? Wifi Vs Bluetooth (or both together)

Hi, If i'm using my iPhone to share internet with my iPad using personal hotspot. Is Wi-Fi better than bluetooth as a sharing option or should I use both solutions together? How does each solution afect my internet speed?
    Thanks.

You do one or the other...real world...not much difference in speed, that you'd notice, whether you use WiFi or Bluetooth. Really a matter of convenience.

  • HT204023 Personal hotspot does not appear

my personal hotspot does not appear ever since I updated my iPhone. How do I fix this??

My carrier AT&T DOES support this feature, and I have been a loyal user up until the 4.3.3 update, when it's totally not there anymore.  What's going on?  I'm seeing many who have this issue!

  • HT204023 Personal HotSpot - View Who is Connected

Really Apple, You have NO Way of seeing the users connected, their mac address, hostname or anything relevant?
If I want to disconnect a device I just simply "turn off personal hotspot" - and that's your solution to me wanting to know who is connected or disconnect 1 user?
I understand you are trying to make the iPhone EXTREMELY easy to use, but do us all a favor and add this feature!

Here ya go, you can tell Apple directly.

  • HT204023 Personal hotspot issue

Help please ! I have an issue with my ipad mini 32G 3G.
My personal hotspot is dissappearing when my carrier is turned on & won't come back unless I reset all settings again.
After the reset when the carrier is turned on it will go away again.
    Thank you

Personal Hotspot is already included in the firmware of the "new iPad with WiFi + Cellular". Apple does not need to add this feature - it is already there.
However, whether this feature is available to customers is controlled by the network operator you use. Some don't offer it at all. Some require you to pay an additional charge, and with some it is included in the standard data tariff you already pay. You would need to contact your network operator to find out which category they are in.
Apple cannot enable Personal Hotspot for a network operator that does not want to offer this feature to their customers.

  • HT204023 Personal hotspot not supported

I have paired my iPhone and iPad before with no trouble but now it says iPad not supported. Any ideas

The way it should work is If you are sharng the internet from your Phone,
Then you turn on Hotspot on the Phone, wait a moment, and then  from the iPad, either look in the Wifi section for the Phone's name, or if you want to do it through bluetooth, turn on bluetooth on both devices, and again search for the Phone in the list of Bluetooth Devices.
Once found in any of these cases you can tap on it to initate the connection. If you did it through Wifi you will then be asked for the password that was set in Hotspot configuration. If you did it through bluetooth, it should simply connect.

  • IPhone 4S Personal HotSpot not appearing in MacBook Pro or iPad2

I've been struggling for a long time detecting my iPhone 4S Personal Hotspot on my MacBook Pro and my iPad2.  Apple support has not been able to resolve the issue.  Sometimes the iPhone would show up; most of the time, not.
Recently, after learning that Siri cannot read Messages to me when I have a passcode in effect, it occurred to me that maybe the Personal Hotspot doesn't show when the phone is locked and/or passcode protected.  I've been doing some testing and I think I've demonstrated to myself that this is true.
Each time I want to connect my MacBook or my iPad to the hotspot, I find I have to slide the lock to open the phone before either piece of equipment will detect it and connect.  I also notice that it takes a long time before the hotspot appears.
With previous smartphones, the hotspot appeared quickly and was always easy to detect as long as it was enabled.
Has anyone else had the same experiences?

I've since resolved this problem - at least so I can cope with it without too much hassle.
You said your phone is unlocked.  Do you have a passcode enabled?
In my experience and testing (Apple support has been useless on this problem), I've narrowed it down to making sure the phone is unlocked and passcode disabled.  Either feature alone will block the WiFi hotspot.  [By the way, I've also learned that Siri is blocked from reading text messages, etc. when the passcode is in effect - even if you are using a Bluetooth device that is already paired with the phone.  Obviously, you must be the owner of the phone if you've pair your device to it.]
I went to my local Apple store on a Genius support visit.  I demonstrated how enabling either feature blocks my iPad's ability to detect the hotspot, and disabling both allows my iPad to see the hotspot.  The guy just said he had never seen that before, and that they are always learning new things.  He didn't do anything to elevate the case to higher level support, like Apple engineering.  I just left the store and that was it.
I've explained this to Apple support more than once and they never seem to be aware of it.  I'm supposed to call to speak with a management level guy, but I haven't remembered to make the call.
So, I walk around with an unsecured phone all the time so I can conveniently access my WiFi hotspot.  And I have to make sure the phone it unlocked until the connection is established so my computer or iPad will find it.  Otherwise, all I can see is everyone else's equipment.
Maybe people don't use the hotspot much.  Apple doesn't seem to care.

  • Connect iPad2 to iPhone 4s via Personal Hotspot but internet on iPad2 does not work.

    Hi,
I have some problem...It just does not work today. Before I could use internet on my iPad2 after connecting via Personal Hotspot to my iPhone4s.
Please help or give any advise..
    Thanks..

But did they have access to my phone during the time I was in the cinema and during which time someone's "Personal hotspot" appeared on my phone under "Settings"?
And how did my "Cellular (Mobile) Network settings" were just gone after that episode, so that I had to go to my providers website to look for them and enter them again?

  • IPAD2 ATT Personal Hotspot/Tethering not offered

I just spent three days with ATT pointing out to them that their website stated a Personal Hotspot would be available for the IPAD 2 with the release of 4.3. I directed them to the page that quoted it. It was a press release dated March 10. It shows the prices for Tethering. They are pointing fingers to Apple. I don't believe them! If you want the link I will email it to you. This post won't allow me to cut and paste the link to ATT's Website.
The day before I purchased IPAD2- I also called ATT and Apple to confirm Tethering would be available. Now ATT is denying that it never was in the plans. Apple Care folks are hand tied. They don't quite understand ATT's decision. There are many reasons ATT doesn't want to allow this. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan on my Iphone 4- If I purchase the tethering for my Iphone 4 - I have to forfeit my unlimited plan- GET THE PICTURE!. The Ipad is capable of tethering. I bought the IPAD2 -3G version for this purpose. Extra 130 dollars out the door.
If you had the same in mind- Let ATT know your frustrations. Thanks for listening

Thank you for your response. Verizon offers tethering/ Hotspot on some of their tablets. I personally demonstrated this before I bought my IPAD2. I understand what IOS4.3 offers on the IPHONE4. The IPAD2 is capable of the same. Apple even admitted it to me via phone conversations. They only sympathized with me after an hour of phone patches between ATT and Apple.
I don't want to tether my I phone. I want to keep it available for other purposes and don't want to destroy my "Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan". I do want to tether to my laptop. I don't really have an argument- I may have been mislead by what ATT stated. Let me copy this from their Web site. There is no assumption that one already owns an IPhone 4 or is it relevant. Let me know if this changes your mind? Thank you!

  • Personal hotspot ipad2 3g

I have a iPad2 3g for AT&T service.  While living in the USA, the 3G service was never activated.  I am now living in Cambodia and have installed a Cellcard SIM card to the iPad with hopes that I could use as a hotspot.  However, the Personal Hotspot option doesn't exist.  I have tried several things listed on support sites, but nothing seems to work.  I just updated to iOS 7.0.2 among many other things include network resets.  Any ideas to get this working?  Did I need to do something via the AT&T service first before switching SIM cards?

never mind...it appears the more i read...that some people are indicating that i would never be able to make my ipad 2 into a hotspot...so i think i am hosed.  Ugh!
