HT204032 Can I use Power Nap as developer?

I would like to use Power Nap as developer to download data for my app. The automatically waking up feature is a nice thing.
Could this be possible with a Mac App?

I know, what apple allows, it is written everywhere.
But can I, say, update data in my app (that is not Documents in the Cloud, Mail, Reminders, bla bla bla), maybe big data, like new maps for a application, that needs always the newest maps of a country.
Do you get the point?

  • Can I use Power BI capabilities in iPad with Office 365

    Hello,
Can I use power BI features in office 365 as native app in ipad ? if this is not possible what are the other options we have to use power BI features in ipad ?
    Thanks in advance.

    HI Anush,
At the recent PASS BA conference, Microsoft announced that there will be a native iOS app for Power BI by the end of Summer 2014.
At the moment this is the current availability of Power BI on Mobile and tablet.
"No matter where you are, you can access data in Power BI for Office 365 through the browser with Excel and Power View in HTML5
    or through the Power
BI Windows Store app, which provides touch-optimized access to BI reports and models stored in Office 365. We will offer support
for other widely adopted platforms at a later date."

    Dear Yoshihiro,
Got it, I see your point, will check with the team why we don't default here to HTML5
Did you look at using the Power BI App?

And I can think of other workarounds but it really depends on the scenario. If you wish to share some more info please send us a mail to

  • How do I upgrade to 10.8 so I can use power nap?

I want my Mac to update apps while it is in sleep mode and to do so I need "Power Nap" and I must have 10.8 firmware to obtain power nap. How do I get the 10.8 update on my Macbook Air 11inch mid 2011 with 10.7.5 already on it?

You go to the app store and purchase a copy of it.

  • Time Machine backups during sleep using Power Nap

My Time Machine only saves local snapshots while sleeping, but I was expecting full backups instead.
    Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter, provides the ability to continue saving regular Time Machine backups even if your mac goes to sleep. The dialog as shown in Preferences/ Energy Saver/ Power Adapter, states;
"While sleeping, your Mac can back up using Time Machine and periodically check for email, calendar, and other iCloud updates."
The term backup implies that Time Machine will write to your designated Time Machine drive (assuming it is connected and available) as opposed to simply creating a snapshot. Time Machine backups show as purple checkmarks/timestamps in the Time Machine "browser", and snapshots show as white checkmarks. The difference is that snapshots are written locally (not to your external drive) and are only temporary in nature - they are not true back ups.
I am running a Macbook Air 13" (mid 2012) with Mountain Lion 10.8.4, so it is Power Nap compatible. I am also running an Apple Wireless network using the new 802.11ac 2TB Time Capsule. The Time Capsule is my designated Time Machine drive, it has plenty of free space and contains no other data. My network is correctly configured to Wake for Wi-Fi network access (which actually works to my suprise), and my Macbook Air is always connected to power. Despite all of these factors, reviewing my Time Machine records always indicates that only snapshots (white checkmarks) have been recorded every hour, and proper backups (purple checkmarks) are only done when the machine is awake. This does not sound like the "back up" that was promised with Power Nap. Are my expectations mistaken, or is there something else I should be doing?

There is a popup dialog that shows up when backing up wirelessly to the AirPort Extreme's connected HDD.  I'm not quite sure why it does this during wireless backup, because on my 17" MBP, I also only see the icon spinning in the menu bar.
If I could shut off that dialog, that would also solve some problems.
Aha! Thanks. A popup would definitely be more intrusive then the menu icon.

  • Where can I find Power NAP for my Mac?

I just got the new OS X but I seem not to find the Power NAP so I am fundering were I can find it for my computer
    I have MacBook PRO 17" late 2011.
    Best Regards.

Unless I'm mistaken, in addtion to an SSD, it also requires an Sandy Bridge Processor (or later) that supports Intel's Smart Connect feature to accomplish it's sleep/wake management for low-power background connectivity, hence why earlier Air's & Pro's may not be able to use it.

Can i use appnap if i upgrade my 2012-15 (non retina)  to sdd?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Power Nap requires a special firmware to work. That firmware is only available for the MacBook Pro with Retina display and Late 2010 and newer MacBooks Air, so if you install a SSD on the MacBook Pro, you won't get Power Nap

  • Can I use Visual Studio to develop Sharepoint Online workflows on existing site lists?

I've been using Sharepoint Designer to develop workflows in Sharepoint 2013 on Office 365, but hitting limitations. I would like, for example, to be able to trigger a workflow when a list item is deleted.
Perhaps naively I thought Visual Studio should be able to help. I've read of useful things like Remote Event Receivers - sounds exactly what I need. I've used VS before for Windows desktop applications in VB, so downloaded a trial version of VS 2013.
Now I'm having doubts. It looks like I can create a Sharepoint App on a development site and create lists and workflows within it, but I can't access my existing lists to do anything more sophisticated than I already can in SPD. Is that right?
I was expecting to be able to enter my Sharepoint site URL into Visual Studio somewhere, just like in SPD, and do wonderful things with my lists - but unless I'm missing something, that's not possible.
Have I just got it completely wrong??!

07/25/12 @ 12:44 PM - determined your machine is supported
07/25/12 @ 12:55 PM - determined a firmware update would be needed but that one does not currently appear to be available
    07/25/12 @ 12:58 PM - reiterated discovery made at 12:55 PM
07/25/12 @ 1:54 PM - reiterated that you don't have the functionality available (4th time)
I think it's safe to say that we've determined that a feature of OS X Mt. Lion (on supported machines) is not appearing to currently be available. So we can safely expect a future firmware update to be released that enables the functionality. A firmware update that currently does not appear to be available.

  • I can't use power point on my mac now I have Lion.

Now that I've had to install Lion, I cant use power point on my mac. What can be done about this?
Are there any other programmes I can use? Or do I need to reinstall it?

Office 2004 will not run on Lion because it uses "PowerPC" code.
Office 2008 and later work in Lion.
