HT204032 Does the non-Retina screen MacBook Pro have the ability to initiate Power Nap?

I've seen that the Retina screen MacBook Pros can use Power Nap from Apple's WWDC keynote but can the non-Retina screen MacBook Pros do that too? It has the same processor and close to the same RAM. Or is it because the Retina screen MacBook Pros have flash storage that they can do Power Nap? Thanks

From http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ this is what is officially supported:

  • How thick is the 1tb upgraded hdd in the non-retina 15" MacBook Pro?

    Hi there.
Just wondering if the 1tb upgraded hdd in the non-retina 15" MacBook Pro is 9.5mm or 12.5mm thick?
I'm hoping to move this drive into the optical bay and use a 12.5mm drive that I already own in the main HDD bay.
I realise it's an expensive upgrade and I could buy a separate 9.5mm drive for less than half the price but I'd rather make use of a supplied 1tb drive than get rid of a 500gb drive that I'd have no use for.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Should I get the MacBook Pro 13" with retina display or the non retina display MacBook Pro?

Hi, I am just about to start sixth form, and I am looking for a laptop/notebook to do my work on, I have always wanted a MacBook Pro so, as I have to use my own money to buy this I have decided to choose a MacBook Pro as my preferred device that I would like to buy. The problem that I am facing is that I'm not sure which want to go for. I will not be doing any editing of photos or videos, I will be using this mainly for creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations, on the other hand I will be using safari quite a lot. The reason why I want the Retina display version is because of the display the downside to this though is that the storage of the Retina versions isn't as much as the non retina versions and I will need quite a bit of storage for all of my work that I will be doing. I have the money though to upgrade the storage when it comes to ordering the product. Any advice, I will be grateful for. Thanks

Another thing to consider is that the Retina MBP does not have an optical drive.  You will need to purchase an external optical drive.  The non-Retina MBP do have an optical drive.
I do not know what sixth form is.  If it has anything to do w/education,  you should check into Apple - Education Discounts

  • Does the macbook pro have the capacity to print direct to blank cd?

does the macbook pro have the capacity to print directly to blank cd?  If not- can you suggest an add-on product that will work with the mac pro?

Unless you have a printer that can feed and print on a physical CD then you cannot. This isn't a function of the computer. Printers can usually print onto labels of any sort, but not directly onto the disc itself.

  • I make changes on the calendar of my MacBook Pro but the changes do not take and revert to what the entry was prior.

For the past week or so, I have made changes to the calendar on my MacBook Pro. The changes do not "stick" on my MacBook calendar and do not sync with any other device (iPhone or iPad). I just can't figure this out. Anyone have any suggestions?

By everything, I am assuming you have tried resetting the SMC (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964) and PRAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379). If you haven't tried this yet, please do!
See the following support document as well: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1367.
The update you're talking about was the firmware update. Hopefully resetting the PRAM gets you up and running. Try resetting it 3 times in a row (hold the keys down until you hear 3 startup chimes).

  • Can I connect my thunderbolt display's power cable to supply power to the new retina display macbook pro?

I'm planning to buy a new retina display macbook pro, but I have a thunderbolt display and I use the display's power cable to supply the power to a macbook air. As the power connector on the new macbook pro is differet, It looks to me that I won't be able to connect it to the new computer. I'm I correct?

You'll just need this adapter, which you can buy or order with the computer:

  • Which (non retina) 15 macbook pro to buy 2.3 or 2.6

Lost a lot of confidence in apples direction lately with all the dumbing down and simplifying professional tools to the point of rendering them largely ineffective.
I have to update my notebook which is my primary computer. My core work is in Aperture, also video editing with final cut express HD
I have a late 2008 macbook products, dual core and need faster processing to accommodate new cameras (blasted pixel rush) and HD 1080p video in addition to wanting to be able to stream my desktop to apple tv directly.
I will get the high resolution screen but NOT the retina display
I am also instantly upgrading to 16 gb ram through OWC. so 4/8 gb is immaterial, and I back up to a string of harddrives, needing at present 1gb annually for the stills stuff. Effectively I will upgrade later to 1gb hard drive.
I want to understand what the difference to me will be between the 2.3ghz and 2.6ghz macbooknpro pro's to my two main usage. (I also have just upgraded to the latest kitty cat software from Lion and not impressed) and will be getting my Garmin software back az well as all my windows xp stuff onto parallels once I have brought the new version. Mapping GIS software mainly but doesn't appear as hard working as Aperture on my drum scanned tiff files.
I don't think there is anything noticeable between 2.3 and 2.6, but it's more in the video memory of 512 vs 1gb that I think will make a difference.
    Can anyone clarify for me.
In Aperture where I would like to see an improvement is when working on scanned 100mb files and tweaking say black point and seeing the difference happen live. My current mbp struggle with multiple files and hangs alot here.
Oh and I am buying this weekend. Thanks in advance

It's a shame that you are in a rush.  This is what  would get if i were in your situation:

Not a retina, but a display that matches HD pixel for pixel and is also excellent performance, both CPU and GPU.
    I know, I have one.
    Ciao.

  • My mid2012 non-retina 13" MacBook Pro freezes constantly

For a few days now, my MacBook Pro has been freezing every 10-30 seconds for about 10 seconds each time. It shows the spinning pinwheel, but I am able to swich desktops and use Mission Control. Every app I enter during the "freeze" will also freeze.
I tried reinstalling OS X 10.8 using recovery at boot. It took 20 hours to reinstall (took one hour to switch from 16 minutes remaining to 14 minutes remaining), end when it rebooted it had not been installed - my old user and all my stuff was still there. Very weird!
It takes about 10 minutes to boot in recovery, and even then the spinning pinwheel shows up all the time and i have to wait to even enter a menu.
There are no issues with my harddrive when I verify it in Disk Utility or in recovery mode Disk Utility. I have tried searching on the internet, but no issues have been similar to the one I am experiencing...
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 (1x8GB module, the other slot was suddenly defect, so I had to remove it)
    500GB 5400rpm HDD (with 250GB free space)
    OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

Since you installed the ram yourself, where did you get the ram?  You also say the one slot became defective, instead of just removing the ram from that slot, move the ram still showing good to the defective slot.  Will the MBP run in that configuration?
Can you replace the original ram and see if the MBP starts properly?
Installing ram will not void your warranty unless you damage something in the process.  So the first task is to determine if the slot you say is bad is truely bad then determine if the ram is faulty.

  • Does AIR support retina on Macbook Pros?

I have been Googling for a few days now, with no luck. How do I support the high resolution Macbook Pros? Is this supported? All of my searches understandably lead to articles about iPad and iPhone support, but there isn't a mention of retina on Desktop AIR.
Many thanks for any help you can offer. Even "That doesn't work yet, and we're not sure we're going to add it" is okay.
    Many thanks,
    Taylor

The spec for the new Amazon devices looks like it should work, being Android 2.3 and ARMv7. It isn't like with the browser plugin, where Adobe had to check every device and make code changes to make sure it was compatible. In theory, as it has the right spec, it should work.

  • Will they tighten the hinge on my macbook pro at the apple store?

i just got a 13 inch macbook pro yesterday and the screen seems to be slightly loose its not a big deal but i worry that over time it will get more and more loose if i made an appointment at the apple store would they be able to tighten the hinge there?

    Hi D,
You definitely want to bring your new machine in to the Apple Store to have them look at it. If they can adjust it, great, but if not, you'll want to have any defective parts replaced or get a new MBP.

  • Will my Macbook pro have the latest OS?

I ordered a Macbook Pro Retina on the 15th of July and I have been told it will be with me on the 3rd of August. Will it have the new OS? is there any way of finding out?

Probably not - you'll have to wait and see if it boots up to 10.7.4 or 10.8. Highly unlikely that it will be 10.8 as it was just released. Still, since you ordered after June 11th, you'll be eligible for a free upgrade (although it may take up to three days to get it). See http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/.
Then again, since the developer GM shipped on July 10th, you may just get lucky... like all the presents under the tree you'll just have to wait until the big day of your machines arrival!
