HT204032 Power Nap?

I downloaded Mountain Lion yesterday, but the Power Nap options don't appear in the 'energy saver' menu. Do I need to download Power Nap as a seperate App (If so, I can't find it)?

  • HT204032 Power Nap on Mountain Lion

I use Macbook 13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008 and osx Mountain Lion. Can I use Power nap?

Power Nap wakes the computer every hour to do specific things and then puts it back to sleep.  Any computer that is booted off a HDD will spin the drive up for a few seconds and then spin it down again.  While this doesn't consume a lot of power, it makes annoying sounds and tends to add wear to the disk drive.
Hence, Power Nap is restricted to computers WITHOUT hard disk drives, even if it is one where the HDD has been changed out to an SSD.

  • HT204032 Power nap with SSD

I have a new MacBook pro (mid 2012) with upgraded SSD drive, is there any way of getting power nap functionality now or in forthcoming firmware updates? I assumed power nap was standard to all devices running mountain lion.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
Power Nap needs flash storage, in Mid 2011 or later MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina

  • HT204032 Power NAP and Time Machine Backup

One of the features of Power Nap is to allow backup even when the notebook is in a sleep .
i notcied that even when Power Nap is enabled , i loose the backup process immediatly if PC goes to sleep. the condition happens when the backup is already working and after some time when not using the PC it goes to Sleep .
is there a solution for the same ?

Same here. Doesn't seem to work as advertised? Neither does it continue a backup when going into a "power nap"
The info isn't clear, but TM has always cancelled a backup when going to sleep.
nor does it start a new backup during a "power nap".
It should, but only if the previous one was more than an hour earlier.

  • HT204032 Power Nap Compatibility.

In the article about Power Nap it says that the Macbooks that are compatible are the Macbook Airs after 2011 and the Macbook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012). Does this mean the retina display ones AND mid 2012 edition or just macbook pro with retina in mid 2012? I have the New Macbook pro bought in July 2012, when I upgrade to Mountain Lion, will I be compatible to use Power Nap?

    Thanks,
    Harsh

I believe it is limited to the Retina versions, as they use SSD Flash storage - unlike the other MBP models.

  • HT204032 Will my MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2011) support Power Nap?

    As stated in subject.
I read in some news that MacBooks with SSD (I have 500GB Apple Flash Storage) support Power Nap, but a firmware update didn't come for me.

Since you have a Late 2011 model Lion will always be available to you from the Online Internet Recovery system. That is where the computer boots from across the internet from the Apple servers to an Online version of the Recovery HD, Mac OS X Utilities. Like this screen.
From that you can do a Clean install of Lion after you erase the Macintosh HD partition.
A Clean install is where you erase everything on the drive and reinstall OS X.
If for some reason your original install of OS X on your original hard drive wasn't aligned properly and you used it to restore it to your SSD it can cause problems. Doing a clean fresh install will align the OS on the SSD.

    Hello,
Thanks for your response, what do u mean a clean install?
Everything is loading and working fine from the back up and I used the setup assistant system to load lion (because I dont have a disc it is on a portion of my hdd) I even got my outlook data to rebuild itself, but the computer just freezes after a while.
On Friday before I bought this I talked with one of crucials sales rep and he said that they have something called garbage collector which does the same as trim and I dont need to do anything and it should work fine and it is basiclly the same thing just called garbage collector.
As in firmware that I did not check but I just recieved it a day ago do you actually think that can be the case here?

I purchased my Macbook Pro in November 2011 and just installed mountain lion but do not have the power nap option.. anyone know why?

It is for the MacBook with built in flash storage.

    4. Power Nap requires a Mac notebook with built-in flash storage. May require a firmware update.

It's supported in Retina MacBook Pro and Mid 2011 or later MacBook Air and you have to install an update. If your computer isn't one of them, you can't enable this feature

  • HT204032 hey apple! why mbp late 2011 didn't have power nap?

hey apple! why mbp late 2011 didn't have power nap?

Because it requires an SSD/flash storage, and they stated all over the place that a MacBook Air (Late-2010) or MacBook Pro with Retina display is required, since they are the only models with flash storage.

  • HT204032 Can I use Power Nap as developer?

I would like to use Power Nap as developer to download data for my app. The automatically waking up feature is a nice thing.
Could this be possible with a Mac App?

I know, what apple allows, it is written everywhere.
But can I, say, update data in my app (that is not Documents in the Cloud, Mail, Reminders, bla bla bla), maybe big data, like new maps for a application, that needs always the newest maps of a country.
    Do you get the point?
