Why doesn't the Macbook Pro's battery life last anywhere near 5 hours, as advertised? This is my second one and it lasts 2. It's false advertising, and Apple doesn't seem to making a big deal or know anything about it, which i'm sure they do. Since their general practice is to deny problems exist in all their products, i'm here to make it known that the most recent Macbook Pro has a severe battery issue and it needs to be addressed.
I'm running OS X 10.8.3, Bluetooth is off, and haven't installed any third party software.My MacBook Pro is over a year old and still gets 2.5 to 5 hours, depending on how intensively my application activity is hitting the CPU and disk. Remember that battery life depends on usage and component loads. You could get 1 hour editing HD video since it would hit all cores and slam the disk constantly, or 8 hours in a cabin in the woods with wifi and Bluetooth turned off, only writing text files, and with the backlight turned down and no disc in the drive. You should check Activity Monitor to make sure you don't have some processes using unusually high amounts of CPU for long periods of time (like browser tabs running Flash ads in the background, chewing up CPU and battery power without even being seen).
Like mende1 says, there are not huge numbers of Mac users getting only 2 hours, or the world would have heard about it by now and MacBook sales would be down. If you are only getting 2 hours there is something going on local to your machine or usage habits.

That's not strictly true. Apple has often announced updates or repair/exchange programs to address various problems that had come up over time. Maybe not always, but it does happen. They also have often helped me and my friends when we brought in Macs that were out of warranty and had problems. They had no legal obligation to work on our Macs for free, but they did anyway. -

Intrepid ValueCAN3 usb2 type device not supported on Macbook Pro 2012 with USB3
I cannot use an Intrepid CS ValueCAN3 with a USB2 interface on a Macbook Pro 2012, which has a USB3 interface.
I am running Windows 7 Pro, Service Pack 1, under BootCamp 4.0
I keep my Window 7 Pro updated with Windows Update.
I called Intrepid CS, and they said there are issues with USB3 and support is needed by some computers that have USB3 interfaces.
The ValueCAN3 is an automotive diagostic tool, that interfaces to Windows computers via USB2.0.

I want to use this Macbook Pro for both Mac OSX and Windows.
I tell people I wanted a high-end Windows Laptop, so I bought a Macbook Pro to run Windows on it.
I have also call Apple for support, but they claim that this is not their problem to solve.I was told that the Intrepid tools (ValueCAN3 and Intrepid neoVI Fire) that use a FDTI USB to serial interface, would work on Windows 8 on the Macbook. I wanted to avoid Windows 8. I broke down and installed Windows 8 Pro on the Macbook, installing over Windows 7. The two devices now work - but the trackpad does not work. I saw a reccomendation to install trackpad++, along with PPA (Power Plan Assistant), it does not work for my macbook pro 2012.
When will Apple support Windows 8? (an answer that will not be answered here)
The problem is basically Windows 7 does not support USB3, so I installed Windows 8 which does support USB3.
Now with Windows 8 Pro installed, the trackpad does not work.
I also cannot run the Windows Experience Index.
Status Summary:
I can use the USB3 ports under Windows 8 pro.
Intrepid USB2 based interfaces work now.
Trackpad does not work under Windows 8 Pro on the macbook pro (2012) using Bootcamp 4.0.
And Yes, I hate Windows 8 Pro. Windows 7 works, Windows 8 - I just don't get it. -

That model in general is supported, but make sure you meet the other requirements listed here: http://apple.com/osx/specs, such as enough free disk space. If you do, please describe in more detail what happens when you try to download 10.9, including any error messages.
Also, be sure you're downloading the full installer, which should be done from the App Store. -
I have XMarks enbled, and about 20 seconds after opening, Firefox asks me to verfiy two XMarks addresses (choose between local or server). After I do so, Firefox crashes and generates the below crash report details:

OK so it looks like my 2nd logic board is on the way out. The left hand side of the laptop is way to hot and you just cant have it on your lap.
So i called support to raise a call and the guy tells me there isn't an issue as "The Macbook Pro is a PORTABLE and NOT a laptop" .
Come on now Apple this is taking the cake. I have my laptop raised off the table now for cooling and the thing is still a toaster. SORT IT OUT !As most others have noted, if you want the power of a MBP you'll have to learn to live with the heat. The MBs run cooler, but with less performance.
You'll find the same heat problem in other company's desktop replacement notebooks, though perhaps not to the same extent due to the MBP's incredibly small and lightweight dimensions.
It's really quite pleasant to use the MBP in your lap if you have a lap-desk, Barnes and Noble sells some relatively nice looking ones for about twenty bucks. -
I took my iMac to be fixed and when I got it back, mail was not set, so I called Apple and they helped me set up mail. Now the new mail goes to trash and there is no number by the 'inbox' to tell me how many new messages I have. I cannot save a draft to 'drafts.' There is a large number by 'trash' (I think all mail went to trash - including drafts). When I send myself an emai, it goes to trash also. This is on both my iMac (the one taken in) and my MacBook Pro (same emails) which was not taken in.
I went to 'rules' but have no idea what to do there. There are no rules in the rule box. When I click 'add rule' it puts 'rule 1' in the rule box, but since that was not there when I took it in, I delete it to have an empty rule box.
Can someone pleasehelp me. I am completely stupid with all this. Do not under stand what is suppose to be set up in 'rules.'

ArudiNow new mail is coming to both computer's inboxes but there is no number on the stamp icon on dock to show number of emails on the iMac. Nor is there a number by either email address under MAILBOXES/inbox (sidebar) on the iMac. This number is showing on MacBook Pro.
I also can save drafts now on both computers.
Seems the Pro is fixed and the iMac is only missing the numbers on dock icon and by addresses in inbox.
Now that the problem is less, I feel i am wasting your time but will continue so maybe I can get those numbers back.

Apple's Mail program for email - yes, and gmail.
IMAP for both accounts.
Did not change mail configuration on MacBook.
The iMac and MacBook Pro have the same mail configuration except in Accounts/mailbox behaviours/store draft messages on the server was not marked on MacBook > it is now.
'Store junk messages on the server' was marked on one computer for gmail, but is unmarked on both now.
On the iMac, Accounts/Accounts info/Outgoing mail for gmail is smtpgmail.
On the MacBook Pro for gmail it is smpt.gmail.com (plus) my email address.
Rules/Add rule window, on the MacBook third line is 'Any Recipient', on the iMac third line is 'From."
The last box on that line has my email address on the MacBook.
The last box on that line has the last address I sent an emil to (last night), on the iMac.
On the last line on iMac, no box was selicted for 'to mailbox' > I choose 'inbox' because it is on the MacBook Pro.
Now I have a Rule #1 and am not sure I should have because there was no rules marked when I took the computer in.

I've heard it only supports 4k at 30 Hz. Is this true?For some reason Displays no longer shows that information, so I don't know what it is. However, the last time I saw the information on a 2009 MBP it was 75.
I'd think there is a utility around that might provide the info like Display Maestro 1.1.7 or SwitchResX. -

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked. -

it's also likely that you used two different apple IDs to purchase apps. if that's the case then you simply have to log out of your app store, and log into the other account to update the apps.
from experience it's not possible to syncronise purchased content from two different accounts. but you can always give Apple a call. -

Did you try to restart the computer and then try installing again?
There are users that it helps them, it might solve the problem but preventing them expect an error and understand why it happens.
Sometimes it appears as a result of lack of .NET Framework (check the Microsoft article if you meet the requirements before installation).

HT1338 the Macbook Pro would not even detect the external monitor.
My Macbook pro will not connect to an external monitor after moving it. It has been running on this same monitor for 8 months. I switched to a new Desk last night, after hooking it up, the Macbook Pro would not even detect the external monitor. It was only showing the Macs monitor in Display. It did not even have where you could "Detect Display" available. Is there an update that I may have missed. I have tested all the Monitor connections with another laptop they all work.
