HT204032 Will Power Nap be supported for earlier MacBook Air computers?

Will Power Nap be supported for earlier MacBook Air computers?

As of right now, it is only available on the newer models. However, no one knows of Apple's plans and, if it is technologically possible, Apple may decide to release a firmware update for the older models.
This is what happened with internet recovery. It was only available on 2011 models, but firmware updates were released for some of the older models. No one knows if Apple will do this for power nap, but it is possible.

  • The new power cord I ordered for my macbook air doesn't fit, too long; my computer is three years old. have they changed the powercord?

I have a three year old macbook air. I ordered a new powercord from amazon (two, actually), and it doesn't fit.
The cord connection is too long for my computer.
Is the new powercord a new size, and if so, is there any adapter?

Yes, there is a new style adapter called MagSafe2, you need the original MagSafe adapter.

  • Can Macbook(2007 late) 60W MagSafe Power Adapter be used for New Macbook Air 13" ?

I just upgrade my old Macbook (2007 late) to the new Macbook Air 13" (2012 Mid).
The old Macbook have a 60W Magsafe power adaptor, it's T style.
I am wondering if this kind of old T style 60W magsafe adaptor can be used on my new Macbook Air which is using magsafe 2, if I just purchace a "magsafe to magsafe 2 converter" on the Apple Store?
    Can anybody share your experience?

    Thanks captfred's reply.
I go to Apple reseller to get the "Magsafe to Magsafe 2 converter" and test it with my old T-style 60W adaptor.
So far, my new Macbook Air is still working.
Hope my experience can help other user.
BTW, I don't know how to change "This helped me" to "This solved my question".
So, sorry captfred, I can't add your point.

If I remember right there "may" be a problem if you have a proxie settings enabled.
System Preferences/ Network/ Advanced/ Proxies. Can't remember which one or if it was an issue in 10.7 or 10.6. Just make sure their all unchecked and try again.
You might try a search in these forums for more information. Different fix's for different issue's.

  • Could Adobe please advise if they will be adding tethering support for Nikon D600

Could Adobe please advise if they will be adding tethering support for Nikon D600 as it is instrumental to our decison regarding purchase.
    Many thanks

Nobody is happy with the answer about old software not getting updated with new cameras, but if you look into it, Adobe had to lay off about half their employees over the past few years to keep the company viable in the declining economy, so they don’t have extra people to update and test plug-ins for non-current versions, and if they did, then some people wouldn’t buy the newer version and they’d have even less money.
Adobe has only just gotten the D600 supported for raw format in their current beta version of LR, which affects everyone with a D600, and if they had to wait for Nikon for supply and SDK and also have to prioritize their work to keep things on schedule, tethering is likely to lag behind raw-file support for any particular camera.  Apple controls their entire computer environment, hardware and software, so it’s not surprising they can implement tethered capture from day one, but Adobe must figure things out for OSes they don’t own, both Mac and PC, so they rely on waiting for Nikon to do things for them, and then figuring out how to get it to work.
Well boo hoo for Adobe ... life sure is tough for them ... if they can't handle the load maybe they should get out of the business of software development ... They can't be all that worried about revenue to support Lightroom development or they wouldn't have reduced the price of the full version by 50% and the upgrade price by 20% ... it was a less than smart move considering they have been bragging for the past couple of years about how many more folks use Lightroom vs. other competitive options ...
Aperture 3, Capture One both have tether support for the D600 ... and many more cameras than are supported by Lightroom ... those developers are working and engineering solutions in the very same economy as Adobe (and C1 supports both platforms as well, costs much more than Lr and employs far fewer engineers) ... why aren't they suffering from the same lack of support? ... or using the camera makers to deflect blame for the lack of results?
    Excuses are not solutions ...

  • I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

I need help identifying which Magsafe Power Adapter I need for my Macbook Pro Model A1398, EMC 2673?

Provided the computer-end fits, you are free to use one with a HIGHER Wattage rating. No damage whatsoever will be done to any component, but it will likely run cooler (but may be slightly heavier).
If you use one with too LOW a Wattage rating, you will not be able to charge and run at the same time, and your computer's top speed (for its most intensive computations) will be limited.

Dear all, Since a week ago I observe that when I press the button for my macbook air to start a nap, first the screen turns to black (although I can see it is stil on) and I can see the arrow (pointer). Only after 15 seconds the arrow and the screen really shut down. It did not occur before, as a matter of fact it was instantaneous. What could be the problem?

Note the time in your Mac's menu bar or some other accurate timepiece. Then, press the button to put the MBA to sleep. Wait until the cursor disappears and for all indications that the Mac appears to be asleep.
Then, wake the Mac the way you normally wake it.
Then, find the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
    Open Console.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's sleep problem. To do that type the words sleep cause in the Filter field at the upper left of the Console window:
That will cause all log entries to be hidden, except for the entries containing those words. The last entry in the list will correspond to the last time you woke the Mac. It will have a time stamp in the form hh:mm:ss later than the time you noted in the Mac's menu bar prior to putting it to sleep.
Make note of that exact time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
Next: Clear the filter field by clicking the x in the above screenshot. It should then look like this:
All previously displayed log entries will reappear.
Next: Find the log entry that corresponds exactly to the time you noted in hours, minutes, and seconds containing the words "previous sleep cause". You may have to scroll up or down a considerable distance. When you find that line, select it and drag your cursor up and prior to the entry corresponding to the approximate time you noted before putting the Mac to sleep. This will result in a selection of perhaps 50 to 100 lines or so.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the fifteen second delay.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • Is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

is there a good texting app for a Macbook air that will sync with my iPhone and iPad iMessage and SMS?

    Hey bishopcheen,
Great question! Apple has announced that these features are coming in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. For more information, check out the “Messages” section of this page:
    Apple - OS X Yosemite - Apps
    http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/apps/
Messages gives you so many ways to start a conversation. When your iPhone is nearby, you can send a text message from your Mac to groups of friends, even if they use SMS. Or send a photo of your epic karaoke birthday party, then follow it up with a Soundbite audio clip of your encore performance. With Messages, it’s not just what you say, it’s however you want to say it.
Now every message on your iPhone appears on your Mac.
Messages on your Mac has always been a great way to stay in touch. But friends without iMessage couldn’t be part of the conversation. Well, now they can be. All the SMS and MMS messages you receive on your iPhone now appear on your Mac. So you can text any friend without picking up your iPhone. And the conversation stays up to date across all your devices.
iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are coming this fall. I hope you are as excited as I am!
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • What is the best anti virus software for a MacBook air?

Hi,just joined the community  .just wanting to know what anti virus software for a macbook air running os x mavericks 10.9?I keep getting pop ups on safari.
    Any help much appreciated!

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for a file with a name of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. It could be "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," "trusteddownloads," or pretty much anything else.
There may also be a file named
               com.something.helper.plist
    in the same folder.
Leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is exactly the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified these three files, back up all data, then drag the three files you found to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
(where something is the same word as before), drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually another folder, though it has a different icon. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How much does it cost to repair a cracked screen for a Macbook Air?

The screen for my MacBook Air recently cracked, and I was wondering about how much it would cost to either fix or replace.

To reinforce Dominic's recommendation (which is a great one), a lot of the cost will depend on what mode of MacBook Air it is. The earlier units are typically not serviced in the store, they're done via what is called a "flat rate" repair. The newer ones can have the screen replaced and are a bit cheaper.
While the numbers most likely have changed, the ballpark is about:
    $650-$800 for the 1st & 2nd generation MBA
    $495-$600 for the 3rd & 4th generation MBA
Keep in mind those are ballparks off of quotes I received about 14 months ago when I brought in two units for screen replacements. But it gives you a rough gauge to expect when you make your GB appointment.

  • Do I need a special convertor for a Macbook Air in the UK?

Hello. I am studying abroad in the UK soon and I was wondering if I needed a specific type of convertor for my Macbook Air? I've asked this question to several people and have received mixed responses. I have the MagSafe convertor for my charger and it says the voltage input is 100-240 with a 60 w magsafe power adaptor. Any information would be helpful! Thanks.
