HT204053 2 ipads in home - 2 different Apple ID's needed for different content?

If we have 2 I Pads in the house, do we need to have two different Apple ID's to keep content seperate on each device? Currently we have one Apple ID and some apps that I have put on my Ipod are appeariing on husband's IPad, I am getting an IPad so am wondering, do we need seperate ID's to prevent this problem.  If so, how do I create a new one?

If you share an iCloud account with the same ID on multiple devices, any data you sync with the shared account such as contacts and calendars are merged, and all devices get the merged list.  To prevent this, you need to have different iCloud accounts with separate IDs (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).
To fix this decide which device(s) will be keeping the current iCloud account.  On the device(s) that will be changing accounts, if they have any photos in photo stream that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to the camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, on each device that is changing accounts go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this device, not from iCloud.  The device(s) that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On [iDevice].  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, to un-merge the data in these accounts you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting the other person's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

    Hi kamfong,
    Went to Settings where?
If you want to use your exisiting Apple ID on your iPad, you need to:
    1.     Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and sign out the new ID, and then sign on the old one
    2.     Go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and delete the iCloud account, and the sign back onto iCloud using the old ID
You still have not indindated why you are saying that using your old ID originally "didn't work". What do you mean by that? Did you get some sort of error when you tried to sign on with your exisiting Apple ID?
    Cheers,

  • HT204053 change iPad iCloud account to different account

i have a new iPad.  when first setup I placed the wrong apple ID in the setup, iCloud section.  now that account name is greyed out and will not let me change it.  the reason I need to change the iClound account from one to another is to use the PhotoStream.
on the iPad, in settings, there is an iCloud specfic Settings icon and the Mail, Contacts, Calendars.  I would like to change the account names in the iCloud spefic icon. In the Mail, Contacts, Calendars section the accounts don not automatically get the Photo Stream option.
    Any help?
    Thanks,  Idaho 51

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

  • IPod and ipad won't let my apple Id be used for iMessage or face time

My iPod and my iPad last week decided to sign me out of FaceTime and iMessage after nearly a year of use, and just displayed the error message appeared that my apple Id or password had changed this made no sense so I went and changed my password no success. Next I tried rebooting both devices no change. Then I closed down all the apps and tried no change. Next I tried to sign in via settings this time I got the message that you need to verify your account and an email has been sent. No email recieved and so I still couldn't sign into iMessage or FaceTime. Next I tried signing in on my sisters iPod touch and it gave me the same error so I asked her to sign in on my devices and it allowed her. So i realised the issue is with my account is there a way of checking that my account can still be used for iMessage or a way of seeing if my account has a error or glitch, or should I create a new account.

Hi Go to itunes bottom of page sign out then sign back in that may help . Cheers Brian

  • I just ordered an iPad mini 2.  What else will I need for smooth sailing?

I know there's a new style charging design on it. While I know enough to buy a cover right away, are there other synching type things I will need, or charging devices?

I've never had an iPad before.  I've got an iTouch and a couple of Macbook Pros.   I don't have an iPhone.  I have a stupid phone.  Fits my needs.
But I keep reading about some new design on the new iPhones and Air/ipad mini 2 that will require something different.    Are you saying there's really nothing else I have to buy?  That would be nice.

  • Apple IPhone Coupon Needed for Store Purchase?

    Dear Community:
Please bare with me, first time.  I am trying to purchase a Apple I Touch for my husband (who has
been there for me during my illness) I am on a fixed income, however, with a coupon that I can
utilize at the Apple Store, I will be able to afford getting it with accessories.  He is runner, does
this feature have any applications for Runners, i.e., rating their heart beat, logging their miles
and can still listen to music?
What is Operatiing System?  I over heard him stating 32 gbytes(?).  Also accessories for it,
Does it come with a Arm Band?  If not, are they expensive?  Do I need his arm's size?
My knowledge about these items is limited, however, I learn quick.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,

All new iPod touches come with iOS 5 pre-installed.
The 32GB version is a size capacity, and goes for $299 from Apple.
They do not come with armbands, but can be purchased for relatively cheap.
    For running: http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/
Just buy the sensor, which can fit into a variety of Nike shoes, or other places. Nike+ is already an option in his iPod under Settings<Nike + iPod

  • How do I use iTunes on one computer to manage two iPads with different contents?

I just bought an iPad Air 2 and want to use it with iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  No problem so far!  However, I want to continue to use my "old" iPad 2 for my wife and want to keep managing it as I always have using iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  The thing is that I want to make it possible for the two iPads to have quite different content to allow for the different needs and tastes of my wife and me.  How should I go about this?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Brett,
Thanks very much for the information.
I took a look at it but it seems to be aimed solely at "media" on an iPad, i.e. movies, music, TV shows etc.  This is fine, but I also want to be able to deal with all the apps on each iPad too, so that when I connect each iPad to my MacBook through iTunes, the synching process works just like it always has for my first iPad (an IPad 2).  I don't mean that I want all the apps on both iPads to be the same (my wife doesn't need all the apps that are on the iPad 2 at present), but I do want to be able to add/remove/update media and apps on each iPad, and update the iOS on each iPad.
Basically, I guess, I want a situation whereby when I plug in either of the iPads, iTunes recognizes each as a separate device and has a totally separate "library" (backup?) of music, movies, TV shows, etc. and — most importantly — apps.  Is that possible?
    Regards,
    Chris

  • Can I use my iPad (1st gen) with apple tv (2nd gen) for things such as air play and mirroring?

Can I use my iPad 1st generation on a apple tv 2 generation for things such as AirPlay and mirroring
I'm thinking about getting a new apple tv but it's pointless if iPad doesn't mirror or AirPlay, cheers guys.
I understand the 2nd generation works.

No. There are some apps that allow you to control the laptop remotely from an iPad, however, but that doesn't sound like what you need.

  • Having issues setting up the use of two iTunes libraries on one Apple TV.  I can set up my iTunes library as I can turn home sharing on from my own computer, however, my fiance only has an iPad with home sharing turned on and it does not find his account?

I have a new Apple TV which I am struggling to set up with both mine and my fiances music.  I have a laptop, but my fiance only has an ipad and it only seems to sync my music library from my iTunes account.  He has homesharing turned on on his iPad but the Apple TV does not recognise his iPad.  It seems from the help that I have read online that homesharing works when you use the same itunes account, is not possible to be able to use two different itunes libraries with two different accounts (and only one computer)?
    Thanks

Both libraries would need to have been setup to use home sharing with the same Apple ID in order for that to work.

  • Hi All, I am using iphone in UAE and ipad in India usinging same apple id. Earlier I could do imessage  to my Ipad with different name but with  software update,I am unable to do, as signing id for the iphone and ipad is same. How to restore back

I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered
    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Manage your Apple ID and see if that does the trick
    Hope that helps

My iPad screen has gone black.  I have tried resetting it with the sleep and home buttons and it only flashes the apple on the screen for a nano second and then it goes black again.  I can even hear notifications arriving, but I cannot see anything...I'd rather not reset it to the factory settings as I have a lot of things I worry about using.  Either way seems to me that the system itself is working since I can hear it working, but its the screen that isn't.  It has not been dropped and has been in a case for years!  Please help!

When the power is on and I press the home button, I can slide my finger where the slider bar "would be" and it makes the noise as if its "opening" flashes a blue screen then returns black...

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

  • Replacement new ipad will not access my home wi fi when my previous i pad did and my i phone continues to, as does my laptop and desk top pcs.  Any ideas as Apple support were baffled for most of yesterday afternoon trying to fix it.

My ipad had been working fine with home wi fi for 9 months before it developed a fault and was replaced by the Apple Store.  However, the new ipad is unable to use the home wi fi, this seems to be linked to the fact the new ipad has the latest update added, which the old one did not.  Also, my iphone has not, as yet, been updated as I have been out of the country.  I know my wi fi works, as both my desktop and laptop pcs work satisfactorily, as does my iphone.

    Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
    Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

If another person or company serviced your iPad, your warranty has been voided.  Apple will do an out-of-warranty exchange.  Have you contacted the original service provider, and complained?
