HT204053 Are MobileMe and iCloud identical?

I've just wanted to set iCloud on my MacBook. Followed the instructions, Apple menu/System Preferences ... but did not find the iCloud icon. There is a similar one, called MobileMe. Are they identical? If not, what shall I do to use iCloud services?

Mobile Me is the older service that iCloud replaced.  It is no longer in use, so you would need to check your computer to see what version of OS X it is capable of being upgraded to.  iCloud came into use in OS X 10.7 (Lion) which is a paid upgrade.  OS 10.9 (Mavericks) is a free upgrade, so if your computer can support running it, that would be the best choice.

  • MobileMe and iCloud accounts in Mail on my iPhone

In Oct 2011 a user wrote:
"I updated to iCloud and now I have both MobileMe and iCloud accounts in Mail on my iPhone 4s. I don't have the option to delete the MobileMe account so now I have two of the same account under different names. How do I delete the MobileMe and keep the iCloud?"
The following response solved that users issue:
"Open the MobileMe preferences in System Preferences, sign out. Open the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preferences and either turn off the MM account or delete it. The MM account will disappear at the end of June 2012.  You can delete any MM account you have currently turned on in your iPhone's settings."
I have the same issue, and that helpful response does not apply in my situation.  On my Mac, I am signed out of my MobileMe account; the Mail, Contacts, Calendars preference does not show a MobileMe account, just iCloud.
On my iPhone, Mailboxes in Mail shows my MobileMe address and iCloud entries - both mailboxes/accounts show the same folders and messages. Also, in Settings' Mail, Contacts, Calendars the Accounts does not have a MobileMe entry, just iCloud.
Mailboxes in Mail on my iPad 2, on the other hand, does not show the MobileMe address; it only shows the iCloud entry.
Any recommendations on how to remove the MobileMe entry on my iPhone?

Don't count on it!  Both my iPad and iPhone4S are on 5.1 and both are having problems right now!

  • HT204053 how to instal icloud on my mac - I still have Mobileme and Icloud does not appear

how can I replace MobileMe with ICloud on my IMac?

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Problems and questions re merging of MobileMe and iCloud

Please bear with me - this is all rather complicated!
At sometime in my early years with Mac, I signed up for an Apple ID - can't even remember what it was.  Many, many years ago at the beginning of the internet, I signed up for another Apple ID - it was <[email protected]>.   Later, I bought/signed up for .Mac which later became MobileMe.  When I first signed up, I had an Apple ID of <[email protected]>. At some time, I quit using the insightbb email and switched to Mail - my email address became <[email protected]>.  Then MobileMe came along and wanted my address to be <[email protected]> but it did allow me to keep the mac.com address.  I also had two aliases through MobileMe.  I still occasionally need to use the insightbb.com account so while I never sign up for anything using that address, there are a few VERY old accounts I have that use it as it was the address with which I originally signed up.  I don't remember which ones in order to change it, so I just keep it active and only rarely get email addressed to the insightbb acc't.
Today, I upgraded to Lion and then to iCloud.  I used the "migrate from MobileMe to iCloud" format, and low and behold, it told me that my Apple ID is now <[email protected]>.  This is going to cause me BIG problems as there is no way to merge Apple ID's!
My first question is how do I get back my correct AppleID for iCloud?
My second is I now have multiple accounts on my iPhone and iPad.  I have an insightbb.com account - must keep it.  But I also have my new iCloud account and I still have my MobileMe account.  Should I delete these accounts?  What has happened to my MobileMe aliases?  I have subscriptions using them, too!
Aggghhh!!!  I LOVED MobileME!  So far, I HATE iCloud!  I don't need these complications!  Any advice on how to reconcile these problems?

I just got off the phone after an hour with Apple Support.  The bottom line is that somehow iCloud has decided to use my .mac address as my Apple ID.  Yes, I can change it, but if I do, I lose everything - contacts, mail, bookmarks, calendar - everything.  For iTunes and this Community help forum, I will have to continue to use the insightbb Apple ID.  They could not figure out how this happened, as for MobileMe, I ALWAYS used the insightbb Apple ID.  Gremlins in moving from MobileMe to iCloud.
He did say that Apple is working very hard to figure out how to merge multiple Apple ID's as this is becoming more and more of a problem.  So, until they sort it all out, at least I know what to do.

  • HT204053 de mobileme a icloud

¿puedo usar icloud en mi macbook con ios 10.6.8 ? y si no puedo usar mobileme en mi ipad mini ?

    Google translaton:
I can use? Icloud ios on my macbook with 10.6.8? and if I can not use mobileme on my iPad mini?
There is no MobileMe and hasn't been for over a year now.  As for iCloud the following system requirements for iCloud are from this document: iCloud: System requirements:
    iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
    iOS 6 or later
iWork for iOS 1.7 or later: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote (for purchase from the App Store)
    Mac
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later
iTunes 11 or later (for iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match)
iPhoto ’11 version 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later (for Photo Stream)
Safari 6 or later (for iCloud.com, Bookmarks, and iCloud Tabs), Firefox 16 or later or Chrome 23 or later (for iCloud.com)
iWork '09: Pages 4.3 or later, Number 2.3 or later, and Keynote 5.3 or later (for purchase from the Mac App Store)
    Minimum operating system requirements
You may also use iCloud with the following operating system versions:
    iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
    iOS 5*
    Mac
OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later*
    * Note: Although you can use iOS 5 and OS X Lion as noted above, you will not be able to take advantage of some iCloud features, such as Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs, Find My iPhone Lost Mode, Documents in the Cloud for iWork, and Find My Friends location-based alerts.

  • Alternative to MobileMe and iCloud migration

I already have a MobileMe ID and a separate Apple ID. I want to transition my existing data (Calendar, Contacts, Bookmarks) from MobileMe to iCloud but I also prefer to be able to use the same sign in ID for both iTunes and iCloud. I have read the various issues regarding inability to merge IDs. I have therefore come up with the following solution and hope someone can offer any advice before I go ahead with it. Note that I have yet to upgrade to the new iOS on my devices.
My MobileMe data is currently synced between my various devices and my iMac. What if I was to backup Calendars, Contacts and Bookmarks on my iMac before cancelling my MobileMe service. I could them import these back into each of the respective applications on my iMac. Then I also remove the MobileMe service from my synced devices. Then I would sign up to iCloud using my Apple ID and upgrade the iOS on my devices and hopefuly will have synced data across all and be using one single ID.
Will this work? Is there any downside I have not considered?
    Thanks

Don't count on it!  Both my iPad and iPhone4S are on 5.1 and both are having problems right now!

  • MobileMe and iCloud

I use the following two Macs continuously (1) iMac 2 GHZ Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.6.8 and (2) MacBook 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo OS Lion X 10.7 (just installed).  I realized upon attempting installation of the Lion OS to the iMac that it could not be installed as it requires Intel Core 2 Due.
So, I expect to upgrade from MobileMe to iCloud on the MacBook, but what are the ramifications for the iMac?  Will I need to pay for an installation of iCloud for the iMac?
    It's never easy is it?
    Thanks for any advice.

If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it.
This will be the situation with Snow Leopard when you have migrated:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
There are a couple of third-party solutions which may be of interest.
BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion. A single user licence (two machines allowed) is $49.99.
Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.

  • MobileMe and iCloud address

When I moved Mobileme to iCloud, it went well. The only question I have is why I was forced to get another email address as opposed to being able to use the same email address that I had in Mobileme. Did I make a mistake and if so, how can I get back to the Mobileme address in iCloud?
    Thanks

    That account expired
Can I keep my MobileMe email address once I move to iCloud?
Only if you have an active MobileMe account when you sign up for iCloud, you can keep your me.com or mac.comemail address and any email aliases you have created and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, and calendars, as well as your bookmarks, to the new service. When you're ready to make the move, go to www.me.com/move.

  • Duplicate email MobileMe and iCloud on iOS

I upgraded to iOS as an existing MobileMe customer and followed all the steps. ( I also manually signed out of the MobileMe component on both PC and Mac )
On the iPhone ( I have a 3GS ) it shows just the iCloud in the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" part of  Settings, but in the Mail app under inboxes, it lists iCloud twice, when you scroll down under accounts the top iCloud shows the 'MobileMe icon' the second shows the 'iCloud' icon.
I have tried deleting the iCloud from the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" yet is didn't delete the MobileMe.
Has anyone else had this issue, know of a resolution to get rid of the 'old' MobileMe entry ? All emails to my me.com account are now being duplicated. :-(
    Thanks

Ok, so after I type the question... the suggestion then gives me the answer.....
This thread had the answer - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3376904?start=0&tstart=0
I guess my old 'delete' wasn't successful.
    Steps :
    1) Backup iPhone
    2) Settings/iCloud - Delete Account
       - if prompted - keep calendar info on the Phone
       - checked both links were now gone
    3) Shut all apps and did a hard boot
    4) Turned on the Wifi and plugged in the phone
    5) Settings/iCloud - Logged back into the iCloud account
         - Merged data
    6) Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Reset the Mail/Contacts defaults
    Back to normal...

  • HT204053 Apple ID and iCloud Account

    Hi there,
I have changed my email address of my Apple ID. As a result I can only use the new email address to sign in App Store. I used this new email address to log in iTunes Store and App Store on my iPhone. But I realise that the email address in iCloud settings on my iPhone is still the old one!
It becomes very confusing to me now, because I can no longer use the old email address as my Apple ID. How come the iCloud on my iPhone is still using the old email address, and it seems it is still working with no problems?
Right now the situation is that I assigned the new email to my App Store settings on my iPhone (see the 1st picture below) but I do not how to do the same for iCloud settings (see the 2nd picture below). What should I do now? Will I lose all the Photo Stream pictures and all iCloud synchornised files on my iPhone?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Fei

To change the iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your phone, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your data will reappear on your phone when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos over 30 days old, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account (tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.

  • MobileMe and iCloud accounts

After installing iOS5, I now have a MobileMe account AND an iCloud account in the mail settings on my iPad 2.  This means double the mail.
This did not happen on my iPhone 4, which only shows an iCloud account.
Can I safely delete the MobileMe account on the iPad?

    hey everybody!

i also rebooted my iOS device but the problem is still here

  • I have to run both MobileMe and iCloud for a few months

Our university is not ready to upgrade our office computers to Lion yet, so my husband and I have Snow Leopard at work.  We still have Snow Leopard at home, but our phones and my iPad use iCloud.  We use iCal and would like it to be up-to-date on all our devices.  I know there is a way to subscribe to an iCloud calendar in Snow Leopard.  Would it be best to migrate our calendar information to the Cloud and just subscribe on all the office computers?  Or can I subscribe or sync the MobileMe data in iCloud?

Remove and reinsert the computer's RAM.

  • Duplicate notes between MobileMe and iCloud on Mountain Lion

I thought they killed MobileMe?  In any case, whenever I poste a note to my iCloud account, I get the pleasure of seeing the folder structure and everything else duplicated.  For example:
How can I kill that dead, inaccessible MobileMe account so that it does not appear in Notes?

There is no picture in your post.
Go to System Preferences>Mail Contacts and Calendars etc, is there a Mobile Me account there?
If not check any and all other devices that connect to Notes (iPad/iPhone etc) until you find it.
