HT204053 Consolidate all of our devices to a new Apple ID

My husband and I have an iMac, iPad, Apple TV and two iPhones. We each had an Apple ID and the devices used one or the other of the ID's. We have created a third Apple ID and want to consolidate all of our devices to the new ID without losing data on iCloud. We can't figure out how; can you help?

Migrate your iCloud data from each account to the new one on your phones by first saving your photo stream photos to your camera roll (open the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll).  Next, open any notes you are syncing with iCloud and email them to yourself (these can't be migrated but must be recreated by copying and pasting the text into new notes in the new account).  Finally, if you are sycing any iWork documents with iCloud, turn off iCloud syncing in your iWork app settings.
Next, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, sign into the new account, turn on your iCloud syncing and choose Merge to upload the data to the new account. Once you've done this on both phones, check the new account on icloud.com from your computer to confirm that all your data is there.
Once you've confirmed that your data has been successfully migrated to the new account, go to System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, click Sign Out, then sign back in with the new account ID to sync the iCloud data in the new account to your Mac.
You will not be able to migrate your former iCloud email addresses to the new account.  A new iCloud email account will be created when you create the new account.  If you still want to use the old email addresses, you would have to go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars on each phone, tap Add Account, sign into the old iCloud account that the phone was using, and turn Mail to On.  This will add your old iCloud accounts to each phone as a secondary account.  The limitation with this approach is tha Mail in a secondary account will only be fetch, not push as push email is only supported in the primary account.

    A big fat mess I know, and don't even want to confuse things by asking about these SMTP's...1 thing at a time!
    Not sure if it is still on his phone, however in trying to resolve this issue last time I set him up with a MobileMe address. I believe I entered my info back into his phone because it created a bigger mess!

    What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
    Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!

    That storage moves to master account. Since there are no accounts like that in Icloud, people in your family will enjoy complimentary 5 gigs from Apple and they will let you know if they need anymore. You will not be able to manage storage from windows desktop

    How do you know the devices have been compromised.  Suggest you change all your passwords.
    Describe what problem you are experiencing.  This isn't Windows.
    At this time there is no known malware on an ios device.  Period.

    I was forced to change my Apple ID when my e-mail address changed. 
    There is no such requirement.
    You have created an additional Apple-ID, which is different from the one under which you purchased Items from The Mac App Store.
    Go back, log in under the OLD Apple-ID and Add an additional email Address there instead.
    Apple does not yet have a convenient way of combining Apple-IDs.

    Yes, except photos will only transfer to the same device.   For example, you could not restore an iPhone from the backup of an iPad and have photos transfer; it would need to be another iPad.  Other restrictions for "cross-device" restores include:
    When restoring from an iPhone or iPod touch backup to an iPad (or vice versa), only third-party apps and their data will be restored. Icon order will not be restored.
    Apps that are not compatible with the device you are restoring to will not be restored, for example, iPad-only apps will not be restored to an iPhone.

    As many households do, we share the same AppleID so that we can share apps and information easily.  With iOS5, now we iMessage each other for free, BUT all other iMessages that we send to other iOS5 users are also blasted out to all other iOS5 devices.  My husband doesn't want to see all my texts to other people, but now there is NO WAY to send a normal text to other iOS5 users...it will only go out as an iMessage.  Is the only solution to get a separate AppleID for my husband and then buy all of our apps again for him?  That would be a huge pain, essentially requiring him to erase his iPhone and iPad and start over.  Or do I disable iMessages for him?  Is there any way to distinguish between different users within the same AppleID?

    Everyone can still use the same Apple ID. What you need to do is go into - "Settings" , "Messages", "Receive At", and add a different Email for each user for where they can be reached for messages at. Once you have added a new Email to each device delete the original Email that was there which should have been the same as your Apple ID. Then when you send a new message, send the message to the Email for that person that was just added to their iPhone. There is no need for each family member to create their own Apple ID just to use iMessage. Each family member would only need to create their own Apple ID if everyone wanted to use iCloud and not have all family members data, contacts, calendars, etc sync together. If you are also using FaceTime between iPhones do the the same thing in the FaceTime settings.

    The phone ringing issue has to do with all of the devices being logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID and being on the same Wi-Fi network. While in proximity like that, go into Settings>FaceTime and turn off iPhone cellular calls. It is part of the continuity feature.
    The fact that you are receiving messages is some of the same doing. You need to go into Settings>Messages on both devices, go to Send & Receive and make sure that just your phone number is selected on each of the devices. The phone number for that particular device.  Do the same for Start conversation from, and make sure that it is the phone number only.

    Hi, can anyone please tell me how I can receive downloads onto my ipad that i have purchased with a new apple id via itunes on my pc? I added a new apple id and signed out of existing one on my ipad and now receive a message saying that i cannot associate a new id for 85 days - and it won't let me download my purchased content onto the ipad even though i can purchase new content on my pc with the new id.     Yes. I have tried that. When I use the ID I had before, it sets it up as a new account and I don't want to lose my stats attached to my old account.
    Let's say that my old nickname was "user10" and I used the email, "[email protected]" for my apple id. I changed my apple id to "[email protected]" and it changed my game center account to "mynew" and somehow I am friends with my old acct, "user10". I tried getting a password reset for "user10" but I apparently don't know my own birthday, which is possible because I usually give a false one, but the same false one each time.

    ON your ios device, click on itunes and update your password. Do the same in your icloud and then tap on your message, tap imessage and update your email address and password. Do this in all of your device

    Apparently, you cannot do that:
    Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
    If you have made purchases using more than one ID, call Apple Support and state your case. I have heard that they may be able to do something to help you.
    I do not know why Apple makes it so easy to create Apple IDs; they suggest creating them left and right, but make it very difficult to undo once a person realizes how bad it is to use multiple Apple IDs for the same purpose, for example, iTunes Store, or App Store purchases.
