You have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated credentials. This deletes the account and your synced data from your phone, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, your data will be synced back to your phone when you sign back in.

Apps are always associated with the AppleID that purchased them, you cannot use another AppleID with them,
So in order to update them you must use the credentials that were used to purchase them.
You can chnge the details (Name and Primary email) for an AppleID instead of creating a new one.

I have a macbook pro 10.8.5 and the Application Safari will not open no matter what i do, I try to open the menu of Safari but it won't let me either, the mouse will just be loading. iCloud asked me to reenter my password to get mail and when I did, it rejected my password. I'm trying to reenter in mail account information, but it won't let me because the incoming mail server field is blank, but I can't enter anything into that field.
No, didn't have to sign out. As I started to, got a messge saying something about losing all my calendar information, which unnerved me so I didn't sign out. It was correcting the password in another email account that corrected the situation for me.

I have a new email address and want to change my Apple ID which I did manage to do but it won't let me change my iCloud email address. How do I do this because every time I open up my phone or ipad I get a message asking me to log in to iCloud. Had to change my email address for Apple ID back to old one to stop this happening. Need to get them changed as no longer using old email.
Thank you for any advice.You need to log out of iCloud on all your devices, and before doing this you must turn off 'Find My iPhone/iMac/iPad' if it's enabled anywhere. Then change your ID, and then sign back in with the new ID on the devices.

Particularly for your case:
iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.
If you still get prompted for your old Apple ID's password, the following article provides some additional troubleshooting steps:
