HT204053 I dont have iCloud in my System Preferences How do I get it?

I have the old macbook and have tried setting up iCloud numerous times but have not been able to due to not being able to find the iCloud icon in system preferences.
I have presumed that I cannot get iCloud because I'm running on MAC OS X 10.6.8 but when I've tried updating to the latest version (Mountain Lion) a pop up appears and tells me that it cannot be used on my Mac. Would this be due to me needing to download the versions before Mountain Lion in order from version 10.6.8 first or do I just have a fault on my Mac?
Thanks in advance

You need 10.7.2 or later for iCloud. If your MacBook is not compatible with Mountain Lion then you need to get Lion. Call Apple to order a Mac App Store download code for Lion.

Still have MobileMe icon (not iCloud) on my System Preferences, how can I install iCloud on Macbook pro when directions say to click on iCloud icon in System Pref. ?

Read the system requirements for iCloud.  It is not compatible with Snow Leopard which your system profile confirms you have.

Below is what comes up when I sign into iCloud - where are all the other applications that I need to backup?
Appreciate any answers to this query?

Your question is unclear.  If you're backing up to your iMac, (via iTunes, with cable or WiFi), this has nothing to do with iCloud and the backup is stored on your iMac here:
    : ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

I have a IMac I5 and don't have ICloud on the system preference. What do I do to install ICloud on my system preferences?

I believe that icloud requires OS 10.7, your post indicates that you have 10.6.8.

I don't have iCloud in my system preferences, I am using 10.6.8 how do I see how much storage I am using and how do I purchase more?

You can't check your usage on the iCloud website - you have to do this from the iCloud prefs pane, which you don't have. If you are only using it for email you would have to be storing an awful lot of messages to exceed 5GB. If you are concerned about this you can download some of them to your Mac and off iCloud.
To do this simply create a folder under 'On My Mac', go to the iCloud mailbox, select some of the messages and drag them to the folder you created. Don't try to do too many at once (say more than 100) and allow time for them to download.
If you haven't yet set Mail up to access iCloud, but are simply using the website, you can set it up as detailed here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
If you do decide to upgrade, the latest version of iPhoto is only £10.49, though MS Office is more of a problem. But you can go on as you are as long as your Mac holds out - Snow Leopard is a good solid system.

    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • I do not see an icloud icon when I go to system preferences. How can I get the icon so that I can download it?   an I get

I just bought an ipad and it had icloud and when I attach the ipad to the macbook pro (running lion; up to date) it is not even recognizing that it is attached. I want to put the icloud on the macbook pro because it is not on there.  When I go to system preferences and look for the icon for icloud it is not there.  The instructiions said that you have to go to system preferences and click on the icloud icon and follow the instructions but I show no icon.  Help!

You are most likely running Snow Leopard or an older version. Did it say what your current software is? If you are upgrading from Snow Leopard (10.6) to Lion (10.7), it needs to be purchased from the Mac App Store.

  • HT204053 Why don't I have icloud in my system preferences?

Trying to set up icloud on my MacBook.  It is not in my system preferences to click.  How do I get it onto my MacBook?

That pane will only be there in 10.7.2 and newer. Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Mavericks. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • TS4422 I don't have icloud icon @ my system preference to set it up even after software upgrade. how can I get icloud on my mac?

You won't find iCloud in Snow Leopard. Upgrade to Mountain Lion.

  • TS4006 icloud isn't in my system preferences, how can i get it?

icloud isn't in my system preferences. only mobile me, which when i click on brings me to the icloud webpage that tells me how to set up icloud. step 2 is to locate it in system preferences, which it is not there, only mobile me. and thus begins the cycle again.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.2 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - MobileMe closed In July 2012 and you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
You can set Snow Leopard up to access the email on an existing account which you have set up on a compliant device (you cannot open an iCloud account on Pre-Lion Macs), and you may be able to sync iCal using an unsupported (and possibly unreliable) hack, but no other facilities will work.
This page outlines the limited use you can make of an existing iCloud account with Snow Leopard:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
To make proper use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Leopard or Snow Leopard, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).

  • Forgot password and Secure questions and dont have a rescuemail... How do I get back in

I not sure how.. But somehow I lost contact with my other iCloud account. i can't remember the questions and my pasword have been reset.... How do I get back in to the account...

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
Since you chose not to use a computer, your only remaining action is Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • 10.7.5 on 2008 white Macbook, but there is no iCloud icon in System Preferences. how do i set up iCloud?

my friend has a white 2008 Macbook running 10.7.5.  i'm trying to set up iCloud for her so she can sync Calendars etc. with her iPhone.  however, there is no icon for iCloud showing up in System Preferences; MobileMe shows up instead.  how can i set up iCloud on this machine?
she does not want to install Mavericks etc. as this would slow her Macbook down to a crawl (if it even supports Mavericks...)
    many thanks!

With Lion you  can boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system with little down time. OS X: About OS X Recovery
