Lion is required to see the iCloud Preference Pane: this is an upgrade, not an update, and has to be paid for. If you want to install Lion, go to the Mac App Store and purchase and download it there ($29.99).
First check that your Mac meets the requirements for Lion:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space

iTunes has various components bundled with it that it requires for general usage. I advise that we completely remove iTunes and all of these related components, verify that they have been removed, then reinstall. To do so, please follow the steps in this article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Note: it is important to remove the 7 components in order. Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
If the above does not resolve your issue, I recommend we reset the SC Info folder:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases

I have installed the latest version of iTunes but it still shows outstanding in the App Store
I have updated the latest version of iTunes [11.2.1] but in the App Store it is still showing as outstanding and that it needs to be installed. How do I fix this?

Cannot figure out what is wrong. It says my lightroom is up to date but not showing the option photo>photo merge so I can use the new HDR function in Lightroom. Is anyone else having this problem?
Contact Adobe. That is what I finally had to do. the number is 1-800-833-6687. There was a problem with a file. They took over my computer and got everything working for me.

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I have 3 Dell laptops at home and I am unable to connect my iPad 1 to any of them using the USB cable. If I connect the iPad to any Apple computer using the same USB cable, it works perfectly. Hold down the option key while starting iTunes and make an new library. Will it open then? If so, you have a bad library. With the new library import the library.xml version of the file in your iTunes folder. This will make it 90% like before (some metadata are not identical, but I don't know which ones).
