    Just thought that I'd report that I've decided on my solution.
    It seems that just making do with what I can find on the US store is the easiest and perhaps also the best way of going about it. All other methods mean trouble. I'm lucky that China hasn't outright blocked the US store, as they HAVE blocked iTunes music store in China already (something about a song about Tibet caused them to block the store entirely).
    So yeah, just going to deal with it I guess. I should be grateful I'm getting anything at all, considering the country I'm in. Still, I just feel so ripped off sometimes when I pay for expensive devices and I can't even get much out of them do to my region. iPhones cost around $700 in China because there's no company like AT&T that you can just sign a contract with to get one, so you have to pay up-front for the phone, and get less features out of it in the end. Makes buying smart phones look like a waste of time and money sometimes, since you can't use the device to do what it was built to do due to censorship and not having any content for your region (though they do have a lot of Chinese apps that I can't use due to not knowing Chinese).

    If officially unlocked, you can purchase a sim from one of the two nationwide GSM carriers, AT&T or T-Mobile. However, AFAIK, none of the carriers in India offer unlocking for the iPhone. Thus, if your phone is carrier locked, the only way it will work in the US is roaming...that would cost a fortune.
    So, if you have a carrier locked iPhone, leave it home or sell it before you come to the US, then purchase an officially unlocked iPhone, from Apple, when you get to the US. You'll be able to use that phone in India when you go back.

    If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    Hi. I finished the contract through which I got my iPhone (Orange UK) and I've waited three weeks to get a message from Apple to say the phone is unlocked so I can use it with another service. Anyone know a way of prodding them to get on with it so I can use my phone. The required 20 days (ludicrous) are up and nothing from Cupertino.

    Just to clarify - When I requested my unlock from AT&T, I received an email from them that my unlock was approved.  I verified with Apple that the unlock request had been processed, and then I just had to restore my phone.  You can call Applecare at 800-694-7466 and ask them if your carrier has processed your request to unlock the phone.  If not, you will need to contact the carrier again (as Gail pointed out - it is the carrier who unlocks the phone).

    Even though these troubleshooting steps are centered around the iPhone, they address the "Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" or "No SIM" alert messages and should apply to your iPad. I'd run through them and see if that helps:
    Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
    Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
    Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
    Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
    Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    Restore the iPhone.
    If you still are unable to resolve this issue, contact Apple support for further assistance.

  • IPhone 4 continues to display "this accessory is not compatible with this device" I only got my phone a week ago and I have only plugged a charger into it... Any ideas on how to fix? Ask your question.

    Phone is and has continued to display "this accessory is not optimized on this I phone... It flashes on the screen continuously even when phone is locked, wasting battery life in the process. I could understand if I had used a dodgy charger but I have only used the charger I got with my iPhone. And it has been happening since the first time I charged it. Also the keyboard sounds go on and off when I'm typing, any ideas. Cheers.

    Not that's not normal and is one of the Problems I was having before Restoring as New...
    Just make sure you Sync ALL your important Info... Contacts... Music... Etc... to your Computer...
    and then do a Restore as New...
    i was a bit reluctant at First, because I hadn't done it before... But it was So Easy and am Really Glad I did...

    Hi, I see I haven't had any responses but these problems haven't been fixed.
    I still haven't been able to transfer purchases from my phone to my comp so consequently have stopped purchasing on my phone.
    I bought a couple of albums recently via itunes on my comp, and tried to tranfer them to my phone via a playlist, but the sync often crashes. One album transferred except for one song, and the other hasn't at all. What happens is that when I autofill from a playlist it often hangs for ages on the first song and then I have to quit the application altogether as nothing happens for ages. Basically, the whole Itunes software freezes. 
    After this I find it hasn't transferred any songs, but they do appear greyed out on my phone, which means it has transferred some basic data such as the titles, but not the song itself. When I try to repeat the process to complete the transfer Itunes tells me that it can't transfer because the songs are already on the phone, but they are not!! I can't click or remove on the greyed out items, so now I have a couple of almost full albums on my computer that I can't tranfer or install on my phone, and a whole bunch of greyed out songs on my phone that I can't play or remove!
    The rest of the problems as above still stand. I downloaded the latest itunes OS updates but nothing's changed. I haven't done the very latest iphone update yet though because it says you need to make sure your stuff is backed up, and I don't want to lose the purchases I made on the phone that I can't transfer to my comp. I'm planning on uninstalling itunes completely and reinstalling but I have little faith that this will fix the issue.
    Can someone please help at all?? I'm so sick of this!

  • UPS transferred my package to local post office a week ago and still have not received package

    I ordered a pair of headphones online and got the email saying it was shipped on April 20. I live in Buffalo and the package was shipped from Syracuse. I tracked the package on UPS and it said it transferred the package to the local post office in Buffalo on April 21.
    When I checked the USPS website, it just says been 7 days and I still have not received it. 
    I need help in finding out where my package is. I'm wondering if it got lost in the post office since it's a pretty small package.  
    Should I contact Best Buy to replace my order and mail me another one? The address I'm living in is temporary and I will be moving from that address in two weeks so I'm worried about how long it will take. (I cannot have it mailed to the store to pick it up because I do not own a car and the local Best Buy store is too far for me)

  • My iPod was stolen a few weeks ago, and I have a lock on it. I used iCloud to keep it locked if connected to the internet. Can the person whom stole it still have access if they bring it to Apple?

    I've had no luck finding it . I ALWAYS have it in my back pocket in school , but someone got smart and decided to take it . I kind of narrowed it down on who stole it , well... not really. I have a passcode on it ... Is it possible that Apple can still unlock it for them ? I really want it back cause my parents are low on money.. Anyways thanks xx

    No.  However, all they have to do is place the iPod in recovery mode and restore via iTunes. That erases the iPod and sets it up as a new iPod. There is no way to find it or prevent anyone from using it.

  • I just got my ipod 4g screen fixed a few weeks ago and when I got it back my screen was loose and part of my keyboard did not work. Then I fell and it cracked majorly, doi send it back?

    How can I fix this?

    Did Apple do the work? Apple does not repair you iPod they exchange it for one they already refurbished.
