HT204053 icloud email for kids?

How do i setup an email address for my daughters new ipad online, want to create an account before the iPad arrives?

An iCloud email address is created when the account is created on the device.  The only way to created it ahead of time would be to delete the account from your device, create a new one on your device for her use, then delete the new account from your device (which will use one of the 3 iCloud accounts your can create on your device), sign back into your existing account and then sign into the new account on her iPad when it arrives.  You'll save yourself a lot of headaches by just waiting and setting it up on her iPad when it arrives.

The first trouble shooting steps are restart and reset: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If problems persist Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • ICloud Account for Kids?

OK, so here's my poser for the day:
My son (9) is getting an iPod Touch for Xmas (don't tell him!! ) and I'm going to link it to my own AppleID for iTunes and the like so that I can manage any purchases.
However, I'd like him to have his own iCloud account for email and syncing capability (let along "Find My iPod"), and so that he's not burdening my own storage. As he's 9, it's not possible to create his own AppleID (without faking his birthdate, which I won't do, of course). Is there a way to create only an iCloud account for him?
What I really don't want (or need) is another AppleID, as I already have several of them, plus I'd like his account to stay with him as he grows up and eventually be able to link it to his own AppleID as and when he becomes eligible.
Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

There is no way to create a new iCloud account without an AppleID unfortunately. Family accounts no longer exist since the demise of MobileMe.
Apple doesn't appear to have thought about and catered for people in your situation, despite them knowing that iOS devices are being given to kids much younger than 9.
Parents I know have just faked the birthdate when creating the AppleID for their child to create an iCloud account. It can easily be updated later when they are within the arbitrary age limit and given the password to the account. They continue to use the parents AppleID for iTunes and AppStore purchases until they are old enough to make their own purchases.

  • Why can't I use my icloud email for my apple ID?

I want to get rid of my old email address and only use icloud but Apple ID says I cannot use my icloud email address. Why would they offer icloud email if a user cannot use it as their primary address?

You can use iCloud as your primary email, just keep the other as a backup.
It really isn't a good idea to rely on just one email address in case you get an unexpected problem, for example:

  • How to use iCloud email for registering at iTunes Store

This is my first discussion even I'm not a newbie
I'd like to use my iCloud email to register at iTunes store, but I always got a message "Use your @me account to sign in" (I guess like that the message). When I sign in with iCloud ID at AppStore, there's another message said "This account hasn't been used with iTunes yet"
    Thanks

Are you trying to use @icloud.com to set up a new iTunes account? If so, I don't think that complete system has been rolled out yet. It will not likely be active until iOS 6 is made public. So as the system is telling you, you need to use @me.com for now.

  • I have now been without iCloud email for over 1 week!

    Hi all
My icloud email stopped working last Saturday (11/02/2012)! I can log into icloud without a problem. I can see ALL my contacts, I can also see ALL my calendar events both past and future! This is exactly the same on ALL my devices - iMac, iPad and iPhone. Plus any PC I attempt to access it from!
I contacted Apple last Saturday afternoon (the first day of my outage). The first thing they ask for is a serial number of the device at fault. I tell them there is NO device at fault the fault is with icloud! I was then again asked for a serial number. ALL my devices are now out of warranty so I was told that I would be granted an exception just this once! WHY should I be granted an exception when the fault is with a NONE warranty part of their software???
After over one hour on the phone, they told me they had spoken to an engineer and that there was a fault on the server!
That was over one week ago the server page on this site shows ALL services are up and running when clearly they are NOT!
Friday (17/02/2012) I decided to contact Apple again, this time I asked to speak to the senior supervisor! After 10 to fifteen minutes of explaining the situation I was put on hold for a further fifteen minutes while he went for a chat with an engineer! When he came back he announced that there was indeed a fault with the server that was affecting ONLY 2% of the icloud users. To be fair to the man he also gave me his personal email address to allow me to bypass the warranty checks in future!
I was a Mobile Me subscriber before converting over to icloud and my account is STILL paid up the the end of June this year! I have had NO communications from Apple at all during this time even via my secondary email address that is registered with them!
I find this sort of treatment from a company like Apple is disgusting!

Me too. It has been 3 days since I have no access to iCloud mail. No matter I check it on iCloud.com, Mac, iPhone or iPad, the mail app says I have incorrect password. Specifially, when I check email on my Mac, the message below appears and prompt me to type in the password. I am sure that I've entered the correct password already.
The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “my user name”
Enter your password again or cancel.
Staying away from email for a day is OK, but definietly not for 3 or 4 days. Someone, please tell me what to do. If it has to do with the servers, Apple, PLEASE FIX IT ASAP!!

  • HT204088 I have received an email with a receipt to my iCloud email for a purchase from a apple store in Perth Australia...it does not appear in my purchased list but why did I get the email

I have received a receipt to my email address from an apple store in Perth Australia. No purchase history on my iTunes account but clearly someone else appears to have given my iCloud email...has this happened to anyone before? Should I be worried that someone has access to my account and emails. I sent a query to Apple and received a generic non answer......typical.

The purchase history on your iTunes account will only show purchases from the iTunes stores (iTunes, app store, ibookstore, Mac app store), not from Apple online or bricks-and-mortar stores.
Does anything show on your credit card ? If the email is genuine then it's possible that your and their email addresses are similar and that they gave the wrong id (or the store typed it incorrectly), it doesn't necessarily mean that anybody has access to your account.
For the contact, you will initially just receive an acknowledgement email, the proper reply may take 24 (possibly 48) hours.

  • ICloud email for my Apple ID?

    Hi
I have a gmail email for my Apple ID, I wanted to change the Apple ID into my iCloud address, you know, Apple email for Apple ID. But when I change it in iTunes Store, it says:
    - I don't have MobileMe, I have iCloud, looks like they haven't changed it
I don't quite understand... I haven't created another Apple ID with my iCloud address. Anyone have this problem? Anyone knows how to solve it?
    Thanks

  • Icloud email for log in

Does anyone know why we are not able to use our icloud email address as our primary log in for Apple ID?

To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account.  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.

  • HT204053 iCloud email address not recognized

Why is My iCloud address not recognized. Only the one Apple transferred from my me.com appears?

Are you talking about the @icloud email address?  If you didn't receive an email from Apple telling you that an @icoud email address has been reserved for you, you may not have access to it yet.  They are still in the process of rolling this out and thay may not have gotten to your account yet.

  • Using iCloud email for online accounts

We're changing our internet provider and I need to change all of the online accounts that use the old email address in the log in process.  I've considered setting up an Outlook email address or a Yahoo or Gmail address so that future provider changes wouldn't require me to change the email log in for the dozens & dozens of online accounts but don't really want to use any of these providers.  Can I use my icloud email address, which is already linked to my iPhone & my MacBook Pro accounts?  Any reason why I shouldn't use the iCloud email address?  I really don't like gmail & don't want a Microsoft account.  And Yahoo seems to be hacked all the time.  Thank you!

Unfortunately the free 5GB of storge is per account, not per device.  However, iCloud will only back up your iOS devices, not your iMac.  You may find that 5GB is sufficient if you are only backing up two iOS devices to the account.  If not, you can always buy more.

  • HT204053 iCloud email account?

I have been using my mac.com email for years. I went to create another email address for another purpose and it automatically turned it into an iCloud account. What will this do??? Is it going to screw things up with how everything has been working? I am so confused by this iCloud stuff...

    GreenGator94 wrote:
I'm still not sure how to create another email address
Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.
More information on aliases here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a490a
If you create a new actual account you can sign into it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars so that you are still signed into the original one.
However, if you want my advice you won't use your iCloud address for business. It's not designed as a business service, and has no guaranteed uptime or direct telephone support. And giving an iCloud address out marks you as too cheap to pay for a proper email service, which may not give a good impression. You could get a domain to match your business name (it's not expensive) and get an email service associated with that.

  • HT204053 ICloud email and log in

I just installed mountain lion on my Mac Book Pro, I now want to share notes with my iphone when I attempt to do this I am instructed to set up an icloud email @icloud.com. I believe that I have done this in the past, I would like to use the same login for all of my accounts, at least the prefix, when I enter this I am told that an account is already set up with this user name (it is fairly unique) which is why I am fairly confident that I have set it up previously. How do I resolve this issue?

Go to Settings > iCloud > Delete Account. Then, log in iCloud with your new email address

  • HT204053 Icloud email help?

I have an email address on gmail. If I create one on icloud does that now become my email address or can I still use my gmail address? If so, is it easily accessed from the cloud?

If you create an iCloud email address you can still use your Gmail one exactly as you do now if you wish. Or you can start using your iCloud address, or use both, it's entirely up to you. It's just an additional email address.
Your gmail email address will remain completely independent of iCloud and you will continue to access it exactly as you do now.
There is no integration of gmail email in iCloud.
