If you are having issues setting up your new Apple TV with your Apple ID, you may want to double check that the info is current and correct by logging into "Manage my Apple ID" as outlined on this page:

If everything is confirmed as correct and working but your Apple TV still won't accept your Apple ID, you may want to try restoring it to factory settings:

After having updated the software on my apple tv, i cannot set up home sharing on it (let alone itunes!) simply, the apple tv does not recognise my apple id and password anymore

i have updated the apple tv software (on one apple tv, ihave 2) after having used for 2 years withou any problem.
i tried to log in again to watch movies already purchased but i cannot. the itunes store is not available and the home sharing does not recognise my id and password. on my pc i have alsoupdate to the latest software my itunes.
the second apple tv where i am still resisting tomupdate the software works very well as always.

hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
Here's how to do it:
1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.

Facetime on my ipad does not recognise my apple id password after i have upgraded to iOS 6.1

After upgrading my ipad to iOS 6.1, Facetime does not recognise my Apple ID password. The password works fine on the app store, I have even tried changing the password, but Facetime refuses to recognise the password, and therefore unable to activate. Has anyone else faced such an issue?

Homesharing works. My issue is that apple tv does not recognise all movies in my library, particularly reference movies (created them through quicktime pro to overcome itunes not playing AVI issue). Can anybody help?

Apple TV does not recognise my Ethernet! I have tried two different ethernet pathways, my sky box is right beside the Apple TV box and it works perfectly on both Ethernet paths! I am therefore assuming that the problem is not the Ethernet. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I should know about?

I'm having the same issue myself. Over wi-fi everything is fine with the ATV, switch to ethernet, caos. I simply can't identify why that's happening. I have a 100mb optical fiber and all the other stuff are functional, Macbook, iPhone, all the gang. Sooooo, what's going on?

Lenovo does not recognise anymore my ID and my password

You will have to try to recover the password or contact Apple for help.

have you backed up in the past with iTunes or iCloud? If so, it is possible that you will not lose this information, but I cannot guarantee anything.
Check for backups in iTunes by going to Preferences > Devices > Device backups
If you do not see any, and your iPad is still in working order, check for iCloud backups in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup
Also, if your iPad is still in working order, you can backup with itunes before restoring : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

Just sharing.    My apple tv did not recognise my apple id.    Sooooooo frustrating.    Thanks to this forum we finally fixed it.
The zoning was in another country (our fault - long story).   The time zone was also wrong.    But it turns out the problem was the down loadable upgrade.
When apple tells you to upgrade........ just do it.      We are always about to watch a movie and think to ourselves, yeah yeah, we'll do it later.

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If restoring from the Apple TV doesn't help, try restoring from iTunes using a USB cable.
If this is a new Apple TV, in addition to trying the above, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.
If you are encountering difficulties with settings in your new hardware, you may wish to contact your ISP who should be fairly knowledgeable about settings for their device.

I Am having the same issue. Ie on the password issue.
I Am using a Macpro though.
i Have had no issues with the setup until recently.
However I think the hard drive is starting to fail as it keeps on losing the wireless connection and gas been stuttering a lot on playback.

It may be that AutoFill is disabled in Safari, or that Private Browsing is on.
Go to Settings > Safari > Passwords & AutoFill and make sure that Names and Passwords is on.
Go to your Home screen and open Safari. If Safari is black or dark instead of white or gray, Private Browsing is on. Safari doesn't save account names and passwords when Private Browsing is on. To turn off Private Browsing:
On iPad, tap the the plus icon in the upper-right corner of the Safari page, then tap Private in the lower-left corner.
On iPhone and iPod touch, tap in the lower-right corner of the Safari page, then tap Private in the lower-left corner.
