HT204053 the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad

My friend gave me new IPad as gift but he used his iCloud ID and I couldn't chang it to my new  ID. He gave me his password and all, but I would like to set up my own. How can I do that? iCloud "cannot sign in. the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad

Error Message: "Cannot sign in.  The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipad/iphone"
I encountered the same problem when I purchased a used iPad for my elderly father and couldn't set it up for him. I called Apple Support...
Apple support could NOT help me. I was told there is no way to circumvent the 3 icloud setup limit on iOS devices at their end. I was told to use a different mac or iOS device that hadn't met the 3 x limit.
So, using MY iPad I tried to do that. At first I went to Settings/iCloud. But that is your PRIMARY iCloud account    (and this was MY iPad and I didn't want to screw up my own settings!) which you don't want to trash.
After some online research (iMore to be exact) I discovered you can setup a secondary iCloud account using:
Settings/Mail,Contact,Calendars --> Add Acount... -->iCloud --> Get A Free AppleID --> Birthday Q then Security Question - then Name - then Get a free iCloud email address....
After you get to the new iCloud settings page at the end of the signup process - I deselected all the tabs which made the new account "inactive" on my iPad.
Next I went to the used iPad that had the initial problems, and tapped on Settings/iCloud. I signed in with the iCloud account that was newly created and was able to then get an iCloud account to work!
I left the new iCloud account showing on my own iPad (under Mail,Contacts,Calendars) as it is inactive. I am not sure what would happen if I deleted it - it may stop working on my father's iPad then.

  • HT204053 The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad - what to do??

In trying to sign in to my iCloud account on a new (to me) iPad, I get the message that "The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad".
Anyone know the resolution to this issue?  The iPad previously belonged to two other staff members and now won't let me use iCloud.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, once all your ICloud accounts have been used up on your device, you cannot create any more, no matter what you do. You will need to either reuse one of the accounts you have already created or use another device to create your account.

I cannot sign into icloud.. It says that the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipad. What can I do ?

You'll have to use a different device to setup iCloud, and then sign in using that account.
Is it a second hand iPad, or have you created multiple accounts on it already for some reason?

  • The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad

We're using a number of iPad Minis in a lab environment to train students and volunteers.
We're receiving the message "The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad" after three accounts have been created on an iPad.  Since we have a new group of students every 4 to 8 weeks, we need to find a way to allow free accounts, and we don't want to require students to provide credit cards.
We've looked at the work around to go to iTunes, Quick Links and Redeem, but that's a little messy for hundreds of students a month.
Is there a way to remove the association between the free accounts and the iPad serial number?
    A couple of notes:
    1. We can set them up under AppleID.apple.com, but as soon as we try to load a Free app (all the apps we use are free), it prompts for a credit card number and won't let them continue.
    2. There is not a "None" option on the credit cards, as least for the apps we're using.  Is this option app specific, or is this a feature that comes and goes, based on Apple's changing policies?
    3. The iPads are in DEP and are managed via Maas 360

Why do the students need an account? Are they downloading apps?
You should be downloading apps by Mass 360. That means apps will be owned by mass 360 not individual student ids.
You may be in a bit of trouble.  You need to get the students to go into there apple id and detach the ipads.  Oh, well. Contact apple.
Somehow you are not on the golden path.  Not sure how to advise you to get on it.  I'm not sure how you get rid of the current apple ids.
    Enterprise support:
    Call enterprise support  (866) 752-7753
I suspect you will have to go through this process to get rid of the ids

Why am i having this problem on icloud "the maximum number of free account have been activated on this ipad"

Judging from other posts it looks like there is a maximum of 3 accounts that can be created on a device - you could either re-use one of the accounts that you've already created or create a new one on a different device or computer

  • HT4759 I keep getting this message " the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad " what does that mean and how can I fix it

I keep getting this message " the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPad " what does that mean and how can I fix it

It's a really bad idea to post your iPhone's serial number and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.
Any one device can create only three iCloud accounts. As you have apparently already created three accounts (or if it's a used phone the previous owner did) you cannot create any more one it. This is tied to the hardware, not the account, and there is no way round it.
You can create a new iCloud account on another iOS device or on a Mac, and then you will be able to sign into that on your iPhone.

  • HT204053 The Maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone

I am trying to setup iCloud account and when I login I see a popup.
The Maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone.
I have downloaded the Where is my iPhone App to help us locate it in the event I lose it.
My Wife has an iPad3 and has the where is my iPad app.
We have a friend that someone stole her iPad 2 and this is why are chose to use iCloud.
Please let me know the fix.

Each device can only set up a limited number of iCloud accounts.  Once this maximum number is reached all you can do is re-use one of the accounts previously set up or create a new account to use on another iOS device or Mac.  If you wife has an iPad 3, it may be possible to create another iCloud account on her iPad to use on your phone.
To do this, on her iPad go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account, choose iCloud from the list, then enter the Apple ID and password you want to use for your iCloud account and sign in.  Do not turn on any data syncing or her data will be uploade to the new account.  After setting up the new account, you go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap the name of the new account then tap Delete Account to delete it from her iPad (it will remain in iCloud).  You can then go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and enter the ID and password to sign into the new account on your phone.  Then turn iCloud data syncing for Contacts, Calendars, etc., to On, and when prompted choose Merge to upload your data to the new account.

  • HT204053 I have an iPhone 4S and when I try to add an iCloud account is gives me an error "Cannot Sign In, The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone." Is there any way to deactivate an account?

I have an iPhone 4S and when I try to add an iCloud account is gives me an error "Cannot Sign In, The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone." Is there any way to deactivate an account? I have one for myself, one for my family and one for my work. I had all three on my iphone and then I deleted my work. I wanted to get my own person @me.com account. It wouldn't let me create it from my iphone, so I created it from my Macbook Pro. I am trying to add it to my iphone, but it keeps giving me that error. If there is a way I can deactivate my work one so I can use my @me.com personal account?

You should however be able to add existing accounts to your device, are you sure you aren't trying to create on rather than simply use an existing one.
