HT204053 "This Device already associated with an apple ID" message is making me crazy. Can you help?

Hi,
I have a new Iphone, a 4s, that I was given to me by my employer.  It replaces my old one, my personal phone, that I gave to my daughter.  Everything worked well until I turned  ITunes Match "OFF" because I was traveling overseas and didn't want to download songs using expensive data connections.  When I turned it back on, I saw:  "This device is already associated with an Apple ID."  Then it tells me that I have to wait 90 days to download my library.  I am now on Day 64 and counting...but I want to see if I have done something wrong that is making this happen, and rectify it.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

For anyone else having a similar issue, I contacted Apple and they instantly resolved the problem. Great service, as always.

Hope someone can help with this.
One of my students needed to download a recorded homework assignment that she'd saved to iTunes - I let her log into my iPad to do this, not thinking it would be a problem, but now I can't access any of my Music! I get a 'This device is already associated with an Apple ID' message and it tell me I have to wait 90 days!
I have no idea whether this is the cause, but I can't think what else it could be. If I have to wait 90 days, is there some way to cancel iTunes Match? I need my music and would rather shell out for Spotify if I'm not going to be able to access or download anything.

  • Please help - this computer already associated with an apple id

We have 5 family members all using the same mac, each with their own login and password.  Each person also has a seperate apple id/ itunes account - and we want to download all the music onto the hard drive.
When I go to do that for one of my daughters - it worked.  Now I am trying to do the second one - and it says that
this computer is already associated with an Apple ID
You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days.  You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 83 days.
Any ideas...I am sure that this was developed for a good reason - but certainly not a family friendly policy where we are trying to upgrade and save everyone's stuff!
Any help or guidance is welcomed....

I don't have a good suggestion, but I can offer some educational material:
This article discusses what assocating a device to your Apple ID means.  It also talks about the differences between associating and authorizing.  That difference is probably the key to your success.

  • My screen, this morning opened but with all the icones in "flou"allover the screen can you help me ?

My screen, this morning opened with a lot of icones all over in floues and multiplied by 10 or more, what is happening could you help me please ?
Mon ordinateur , un Imac G5 processeur 10.4.11, s'est ouvert ce matin avec un écran rempli d'icones en flou, si je clique sur une application, elle s'ouvre mais tout est illisible, pouvez-vous m'aider, merci ?

First of all, have you shut down your computer and tried to reset the PRAM.?  Then try booting from your install disc and run
    Disk Utility
       1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
       3. Click the First Aid tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Please post back and let us know jow it went...

  • I had 2 Apple IDs but now Apple implemented new conditions and i can't use one of them after 90 days using the prior one..! - "This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID"

I have two Apple IDs because i travel frequently between Mexico and the US, and the apple stores offer different products, so i like to download music, movies and TV series from both sites.
Apparently apple changed the conditions, becauise until a few days ago i could log our from one account and log in from my other one. Yesterday i was at Miami International Airport and wanted to download a few chapters from one of my TV series (Walking Dead) to watch on my way to Mexico City, but a pop up window came up saying "this device is already associated with an apple id". Curoiously, the ID to which i was connected to was precisely the one under which i had bought weeks ago the chapters i was wanting to download from the cloud. So it says i have to wait 90 days to change apple id.... weard! probably i accepted these terms when dowloading a new IOS version, so legally I'm dead in complaining, but why is it that if i am paying for all that i buy as a model citizen i am now blocked from jumping from one apple id to another one???? I can certainly buy another ipad and have one with one id and another one with the other, but is there any other way i can keep the two in just one device?? If i don't use i-could would anything change? This is really making me mad, and is the first time i have thought of moving our of mac products into samsung or others and buy my music and movies somewhere else where stupid restrictions like this one do not exist. Please help with a solution!

OK, but in my ipad, the apple id i have in itues is already the one  iwant to have, but th one i used to sin in for i-coud is the other one. Any tip as to how to change the apple id for icloud and any idea how to know what apps i bought with the other apple id so as to delete them from my ipad to avoid being asked to enter another apple id every time they get updated? thanks!

  • I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads, but I see an alert that says 'This device is already associated with an apple ID.'

I recently bought a new ipod 4 gen 32 G. I had an 8 g .I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads so when I buy a song from Itunes it automatically downloads without plugging it into computer to sync.  When I turn on Auto Downloads, It say...This device is already Associated with an apple ID You can auto-download purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 30 days. When I click OK it turns th downloads off..Can someone help me? I've returned the 8g to regular factory settings as I'm giving it to a friend.

    You have to wait. See:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
You can still sync the media from your iTunes library

  • This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID

I was having trouble logging into FaceTime and connecting to wifi. So I wiped my iPad mini and reset to factory settings.
I was able to get my iPad mini working after wiping it and rebuilding it manually as a new device.
Now, I have a new problem - my apple id.
    I can't use iTunes match.
I can't download books from iBooks.
The error I'm getting is as follows:
"This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID."
"You can download past purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This device can be used with another Apple ID in 34 days."
    What is this?
I paid for this content and the iTunes Match service and now I can't use it?  ***?
Does anyone know how to fix this?

This looks like a known issue from years ago. It's a design flaw in IOS.
When you setup a new device, it asks for your iclould login. This login is used and entered into the iTunes store by default. Then, if you change the iTunes logging to the correct one, it locks you out.
This issue was caused by the following:
    1. iTunes came out years ago. It requires an email.
    2. MobileMe came out later and prevented everyone from usign the same email they used in iTunes. The default email was [email protected] of course. This design flaw, by definition, created two apple id's for everyone. Perhaps this is why Steve Jobs fired the mobileme product manager?
    3. MobileMe becomes iCloud.
    4. Since everyone has two appleid's, and apparently there is no way to merge them, everyone who sets up a new IOS device and enters their iCloud id will be setting their iTunes id up incorrectly by default. Users that then realize this and change iTunes to the correct apple id will be locked out for 90 days.
It seems to me this design flaw will affect every new iOS user who sets up a new device, has an iCloud account and a iTunes account.
    What a cluster f.
More on this design flaw below.

This is really a problem. I've paid for extra iCloud storage. I've paid for iTunes Match. I've purchased thousands of dollars worth of music, books, and movies. For the next 90 days, I can't download any of this stuff to my iPad mini.

  • Can you please reset the "This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID"

So, i had an ipod touch 4th generation 64gb and have bought any movies and music. I got an ipod touch 5th gen 64gb for christmas and backed up all my stuff from previous ipod (4th) to it. My plan was to Use the 5th gen for games an photos ans social networks. And the 4th gen for Movies an music. On the 4th gen I created a new apple ID. When I went to the store I logged into my son's apple ID, to get one movie i had purchased for him, so i could have it on my device, so i wouldn't have to buy it again. After i downloaded that, i logged in back to my original ID, not the one i used to make a new one (4th), so i could get the movies i have bought previously. When i tried to do this, this came up- "This Device Is Already Associated With an Apple ID". So now i can't download the movies i had purchased previously. Can someone tell me how to reset this. Because I really dont want to wait 90 days to download these movies.

Sorry but there is no way to override the 90 day timer once it starts.

  • This Devices is already associated with an apple ID?!

Okay so heres the issue, my gf wanted to play with my iphone so I said yes apparently this was a mistake -___-. i didnt find out till today when i suscribed to itunes match.... apparently she logged into her account and downloaded some books from her account so she could read them.. so now im getting this error.. "This device is already associated with an Apple ID". So how do i fix this and who do i contact and all that. Anyhelp would be Awesome! thanyou

Here's what I want to do: I have a US and a Canada iTunes account, and separate IDs for each. Songs and movies from each account coexist happily on my main Mac. I want to download a past purchase movie from the US account but am getting this warning. I don't want the Canadian account to get blocked for 90 days so I am clicking cancel.
Now, what if I download the US movie to my son's Mac (where I have a  little used login) and then copy it across to my main Mac? I'm getting the warning on that computer as well, but my assumption is that it's warning me about my son's AppleID, and he's at college for the next 90 days. Ie, he won't care. Is my understanding correct that it's the computer that gets locked for 90 days, not the Apple ID? That seems to be what the message says. I don't want to find out that my Canada store account is locked out of past purchases, etc if I go this route.

    Hi there
I'm getting a similar problem with my Macbook Pro. itunes match was working fine until two days ago when i created another 'user id' for the laptop and then an itunes account for that user under their profile. Now i cant turn on itunes match on my itunes under my user account. Contacted Apple today who said to use the Express Lane and email the problem and they might be able to make an 'exception' on the account. Otherwise I'll have to wait 88 days to access a lot of my music on the macbook pro. itunes match is still working on the iphone 4S and ipad2.
Can anyone help? The only thought was too re-stream the laptop. Ive already tried deauthorising the other user but it made no difference.
    Thanks
    Jules
