HT204053 What if I share the iPad with another user?

How does iCloud work on the iPad if you share it with another user with their own account?

You can create a new shared iCloud account as your primary iCloud account in Settings>iCloud, which you can use for backups, photo stream, Find My iPad and for syncing bookmarks and documents & data.  Then set up your two personal iCloud accounts as secondary accounts by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>tap Add Account>iCloud, and entering your separate iCloud account IDs.  Use thes secondary accounts to sync Mail & Notes, Contacts and Calendars.  This will allow you to keep your data in you secondary accounts separated rather than merged (although you will still be able to view each other's data on the shared iPad).  See this article for additional information on this: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/sharing-itunes-icloud-account s-in-a-family/.

  • Using Configurator to share two iPads with multiple users

I work in an office where several people want to share two iPads. We require individuals to connect to our secure wireless network with their own username and password. Each user also wants to set up the iPad to connect to their own Exchange account. Each person will also use their own Apple iTunes store ID and download their own apps.
If I understand the differences between the two applications, Apple Configurator would be the appropriate tool to manage this and not the iPhone Configuration Utility. If I understand how Configurator works, I set up the iPad to connect to Jane's email and to connect to the Apple Store and our wireless using Jane's credentials. Then I back up that profile using Configurator. Next I configure the same device to connect to Jim's email and to connect to the Apple Store and our wireless using Jim's credentials. Then Jim backs up the device to his profile using Configurator.
Now whenever Jane uses the iPad, she brings it back and plugs it into our Mac to backup her profile changes (her apps, her home wireless network settings, etc.). Jim sits down and "Checks out" the iPad to himself which loads his previously backed up profile. If Jane still has the laptop checked out, Jim can plug in the second iPad and load his profile.
Is this how it works? It seems like Configurator can do this, but not the Configuration Utility (which means you need a Mac running Lion to use Configurator).
    Thank you,
    Sean

Thanks gyrhead. Those are some of the better articles I've seen on using Configurator. One of our computer lab managers has been playing with it (I work in the IT department for a university). Basically I can see us using it to manage iOS devices we provide for use in the labs or on a short-term checkout basis, but I don't see Configurator as being a solution for the departments we support who want to share iPads between users. Even if a department has a Mac that can run configurator (many do not), I think it will lead to some bigger support and training issues that we do not have the resources to manage.
For now we are going to tell our faculty and staff departments that iPads and other iOS devices are meant to be personal devices and are not meant to be easily shared. Until Apple comes up with an easy way to login to different profiles on the device (I have also seen some third party products in development... like this one: http://nowsci.com/userprofiles/) we are going to recommend that departments purchase an iPad for any staff who needs it. If they really want to share one iPad among multiple users, they can set up a single Apple/iTunes account for the device tied to a purchasing card, and then just use Safari for checking email (instead of configuring everything for individuals). Of course if they really want to it is not a big deal to delete your email/calendar settings and then add them each time you use the device, but if it wasn't my own device I would just use Safari to check my email and calendar over the Web.

  • Can I share an Account with another user?

I am a current Thunderbird user, as are my coworkers. One of my coworkers is getting bogged down with emails he shouldn't waste time on.
What I need is a way for me to access his email and filter out junk mail and emails he shouldn't be concerned with. So he would need to see any emails I have flagged or starred indicating they need his attention when he opens his email.
In addition to this, my coworker will also need to be able to access and read emails offline. Ideally he would be able to access his email while on a plane and see the flagged emails here as well. Then once he is able to access the internet again, it would be best if he and I would be able to see the updates that he made while offline.
Ultimately, I need to know if I can continue to use Thunderbird and tag team an email account(s) with another user.

There's nothing to stop you both setting up the same account, though there's a risk the server won't let you both use it concurrently.
You'll both need to use IMAP if your colleague is to be able to see the results of your activities.
An alternative is for you to assume total ownership of the colleague's account, do your triage and then send on approved messages to a new account set up for your colleague purely for this arrangement. Mail Redirect would allow you to pass messages to your colleague which would appear to have come directly from the original sender, whereas regular email forwarding loses the provenance.

I wish to share some of my music with another user on my MAC.  I created a playlist of the music I wish to share.  I enabled home sharing and selected share selected playlists.  I went to the users account and could not find the shared playlist.  Within iTunes, I went to music, add to library.

  • Can't share iCloud calendar with another user

I'm trying to share one of my iCluod calendars with another person with an iCloud account. The green "share" button is active, but when I click on it, the popup says that the calendar is owned by me, but does not display the "share with" field. What do I need to do to turn sharing on for that calendar?

  • How do i share a file with another user

i want to give my editor access to  pdf file saved on my iCloud drive and have no idea how to do it

Sorry, I forgot - if you created the PDF with iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), you could share the source in iCloud however instead of the PDF:

  • What problems arise when syncing the iPad with another laptop with iTunes.

I have to use another laptop to sync with iTunes for my iPad. What problems arise ie. do I lose my music?

    Sync with "new" computer
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
    That should do it.

  • Can I share my iTunes with another User Account on the same Mac?

    Hi There
I have created a new user account on my MacBook for my Boyfriend to have his own login, the only trouble being he syncs his iPod and iPhone with my iTunes library.
Is it possible to share iTunes across the 2 User Accounts on the same Mac?

I have followed those instructions and successfully have shared my music. Now for the next question!
How can we both purchase songs that automatically update on each others account? (For example if I purchase a song, it won't appear on his Library)

  • Want to share some music with another User on my Mac - how?

    Hi everyone,
Here's what I want to do, and any help is appreciated.
My fiancee and I both users on my Mac laptop. Currently, we have our own iTunes library in our respective user folders. She wants some of my songs in her library, and I want a few of hers. I don't want to waste hard drive space, so I am trying to figure out how she can have some of my music in her library without creating duplicate copies on the hard drive. Then I want to be sure the shared songs she likes will upload to her iPod when she tries to sync.
From reading the various entries, I think the solution to this is to have a shared library in a public folder. However, I have a few questions about how this will work.
    1. I don't want to see most of her music in my iTunes, and she doesn't want to see most of mine in hers. Can we control this with a shared library, or will each person see all of the available music?
    2. What will happen when we try to sync our iPods? Will my iPod try to import all of her music that I don't want? Will hers get all of mine, or just the songs she wants?
Thanks in advance for your help...
PS - yes, I did read the article that covers most of this topic, but it didn't answer some of my questions.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195

Just in case anyone is having the same issue - since there were no responses to this post, I bit the bullet and copied my iTunes library into our shared folder.
    1. Our libraries stayed the same - nobody's music showed up in the other person's library. If she wants additional music from the shared library, she can just drag it into her iTunes from the shared folder on the finder level.
    2. The iPods behaved exactly as expected - they would only sync to the user they were attached to.

  • How do I move organized photos from dropbox to iPhoto and share with another user on the same mac?

I have about 3,500 photos sitting in dropbox and just purchased my first mac yesterday.  My husband and I each have our own Ipad and our own user id's on the mac.  I moved two of the folders to Iphoto and it shows up on my screen in the right folders.  However, on my Ipad, it shows all of them under one Photostream and not organized.  They don't show up on my husband's "side of the computer" at all.
    So my questions are:
    1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
    2.  How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
    Thanks!

    1.  How does one mirror their file organization on the Ipad?
If you use the Photo Stream, the organisation in iPhoto will be lost - there is just one endless stream.  YOu could sync your photos using iTunes. Then you will see the synced albums in the Photos.app on the iPad.
See this link:   iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
How does one share all of the folders with another user on the same Ipad so they can view folders, and add pictures to the folders if they like?
On the same iPad?  Do you mean on the same mac?
If you want to share an iPhoto library between two users on the same mac, the iPhoto library should be on a separate disk partition or even better, on a separate external disk. Then you can set the flag "Ignore ownership on this volume" to avoid permission problems. Both of you will be able to browse the iPhoto library and can edit the photos within.
See this support document:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
If both of you want to keep separate iPhoto libraries but share the photos, you could share selected albums as Shared PhotoStreams and invite each other to browse them. This would require iOS 7. Do you have iOS 7 on your iPad?  Each Shared Photo Stream will be shown as a separate album on your iPad .

You will have to contact the previous owner and ask him/her to remove the iPad from their account, he/she is the only person that can do it : Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account - you won't be able to use the iPad until they do so.
