HT204053 When I go into System Preferences there is no icloud icon.
I have just purchased an Imac and an Ipad and I am trying to set up icloud. When I go to system preferences there is no icloud icon.
Welcome to the Apple community.
What operating system is your Mac running. iCloud requires OSX 10.7.2 or better, it sounds as though you are running a previous system.

Hi.... I'm trying to sync my iTunes library on my iPad with my Macbook. When I go to system preferences, there is no iCloud icon. Help!
iCloud has nothing to do with your iTunes library sync. iTunes handles that.

When using Safari the scroll bars no longer appear on the right hand side. When I go into System Preferences the option to Always have the scroll bars displayed is NOT there. How/Where do I go to get these to show all the time?
It SHOULD be under the General tab in System Preferences:
(Note that this is a Mavericks screenshot, but it should be there in Snow Leopard, too, if indeed you're still running 10.6.8 as your profile says)

I have just bought an ipad mini with ret.display, I wish to link up my MacBook Pro to icloud with my ipad, but my MacBook doesnt have an icloud icon in system preferences. How do I upgrade my MacBook to accept iCloud link.
See -> Mavericks System Requirements.
Most of us are running Mavericks with no problems - others seem to be having various problems (if you check out the Mavericks forum). But I would recommend that you have a current backup whichever way you go.

iCloud requires OS X Lion (10.7.2) or higher. You will need to upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion in order to set up iCloud on your Mac and see iCloud in system preferences. First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
Mountain Lion requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
If you can run Mountain Lion, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store. If you can only run Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a download code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table. -
I just bought Quicktime Pro key but when I go into system preferences, quicktime icon is not there
Thanks for the answer, but that doesn't answer the question why the icon whether it's QT Player or QT Pro is not appearing in system Pereferences. I have a MacBook running OS X 10.7.4 and there isn't an a QT icon in system preferences.
By the way, what is QuickTime X Pro? I recently purchased QT 7 Pro.
Thanks

My macbook has no sound when i go to system preferences there is a tick on mute and i cant take it off and it also says there is no input device do you know what to do.
Might be corruped sound preferences ..
Type or copy paste the following;
/Library/Preferences/Audio
Click Go the move both .plist files from the Audio folder to the Trash.
com.apple.audioDeviceSettings.pllist
com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Restart your Mac. See if that made a difference ... -
System Preferences... no icloud icon
chatting with apple.com, they said I don't need to do an upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard. But when I go to system preferences, under internet and wireless, I have no icloud. I did the upgrade to mountain lion, but after 10 hours of downloading, when it was at the last few mintues of download....it errored out and I did not get the upgrade in software.
Any suggesstions? You need to upgrade, the minimum version of OSX you can use for iCloud is Lion (10.7.5), but upgrading to Mountain Lion (10.8.3) is preferred.

I don't know what to do - I don't have any sound coming from my internal speakers, and with headphones there is still no sound coming out. When I go into system preferences under sound, there is nothing there - it says 'no output devices'. What should I do?
MacBook Pro model?
Hard to suggest a solution without knowing the model.
The following tips may not apply to latest MacBook Pro 13 inch model.
Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Highlight Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
4. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
Audio Devices window
Side Bar
Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it. -
I just bought an ipad and it had icloud and when I attach the ipad to the macbook pro (running lion; up to date) it is not even recognizing that it is attached. I want to put the icloud on the macbook pro because it is not on there. When I go to system preferences and look for the icon for icloud it is not there. The instructiions said that you have to go to system preferences and click on the icloud icon and follow the instructions but I show no icon. Help!
You are most likely running Snow Leopard or an older version. Did it say what your current software is? If you are upgrading from Snow Leopard (10.6) to Lion (10.7), it needs to be purchased from the Mac App Store.

when i go onto system preferences the icloud button isnt there how do i get it there so i can setup my mac on find my iphone
You have to have 10.7.2 to have the iCloud icon appear.
You need to upgrade to Lion, via download from the app store, $29 (US). -
When I go to system preferences (to upgrade Mac OSX) There's no icloud icon. There's a mobileme icon that has an Account Status error. What do I do from here?
Note that the method for paying to continue your complimentary storage isn't entirely intuitive:
If you wish to continue your current storage level, the instructions are here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5527
Scroll down to 'How do I purchase my current plan?' and expand the section applicable to your computer or device. -
There is no sound from my Macbook Air even when I turn it on. When I go to System Preferences and click on Output there are no options. The Mute box is also checked, but I cannot uncheck it. Also when I try to play any video from the web, it stops playing after a second or so. I have turned off my computer and turned it on again which did not help.
Try these
PRAM Reset: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
SMC Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 -
Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

When I go to
System Preferences > Network > "Click the lock to make changes",...
It is ALWAYS UNLOCKED.
That is even if I have locked it before the last shutdown.
Should it not stay locked until I unlock it again as administrator?
PJ (Pjflyer)From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ General
If there's a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, click it and authenticate to unlock the settings. Enter your login password when prompted.
Click the Advanced button and check the box marked Require an administrator password to access locked preferences in the sheet that drops down. Then click OK.
