HT204074 Can iTunes Match take the music I have on my iPod Classic and be able to share it with my other devices?

I have the original 80 gig iPod Classic that is about half full of music I had burned from the old cd collection years ago, it was all on my laptop but that has long since crashed and burned, leaving me with the trusty classic as the only copy, now it's acting up and being temperamental and I'm hoping this is the way to get all my music backed up and accessible.

You can only subscribe to iTunes Match, and upload music to it, from a computer's iTunes.
There are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy your music back from your iPod : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

Depends on why it's ineligible.  If it's under 96 Kpbs, try right-clicking on the file and choosing Create AAC Version.  (If you don't see this option, go to iTunes>Preferences, click "Import Settings..." then choose "Import Using: AAC Encoder" and "Setting: iTunes Plus".)  Then rescan your library to see if this version will add to iTunes Match.  Or, after changing your import setting, just re-import the song to your iTunes library.
If the song is over 200 MB you would have to reduce it's size to make it eligible.

A few years ago I bought music from Itunes.  Recently I deactivated all computers in order to add a new computer.  Most of the music I purchased came through, but I am still missing about 30% of it.  How can I download all the music I have purchased from Itunes?

Might have luck with that here >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer on the iTunes Store.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchases.

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.  iTunes Match is a different service from iCloud.

Do a reset of everything on your ipod. Then reconnect it and it should work.

  • I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format"

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • HT1320 how can i save me data stored on a non responding ipod classic and says you need to format before using it?

how can i save me data stored on a non responding ipod classic and says you need to format before using it?
in another way : how can i save my date stored on my classic iPOD as a external hard .... when that msgs appears .... volume doesn't contain a recognized file system , make sure the file system is loaded .... then , you need to format ??? can anyone help ?

It sounds like the iPod's storage has data corruption.  You may be able to treat it like an external drive and use data recovery software on it, but it probably won't work because the system is telling you that the drive needs to be formatted before it is recognized.
If the problem is data corruption and there is no hardware-related problem on the iPod's hard drive, a Restore should fix the problem.  But this will obviously erase the iPod's hard drive.

  • I have a 80gb ipod classic and i cannot get it to sync anymore since I updated my itunes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do

I have a 80gb ipod classic and i cannot get it to sync anymore since I updated my itunes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do?

Does the device show up in Windows Explorer when connected?
Have you tried going into Control Panel > Programs & Features > iTunes > Repair?
Have you proved the cable with a different device, or the device's connectivity with a different computer?

  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?

Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?

Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.
The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.
Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Then backup your computer after you recover the items.

  • HT1296 Why can't I put the music, that is on my ipod, on to my computer itunes?

I got a new computer because my old one went out of commision. All I want to do is put the music and apps that are on my ipod onto my itunes on my new computer. My computer doesn't recognize it as a media player or Ipod. It recognizes it as a Digital Camera. So I can't acsess any of my music or apps to place them on my computer or itunes. I can't veiw it at all. It acs as if none of it is even on there. When I try and sync my ipod to my computer it says: Syncing ipod to itunes will add the music from itunes onto my ipod but erase everything existing on the ipod. Would you like to sync? NO. I just want to add my music to my computer and add more. Is there any way to do that without completely erasing everything that's currently on my ipod? Have over 100 songs and about 50 apps. Any help is MUCHO apreciated.

  • I bought an ipod classic 160, do i need itunes installed to play music?, i bought an ipod classic 160, do i need itunes installed to play music?

Hi, i bought an ipod classic 160, and i am new to this. Do i need to install itunes to play music? I have installed music on to the ipod, and i can see the songs via my pc, but i cannot see the songs on the ipod to play them?
    Thanks for the advice

    You need to start again.
From what you have told us, it sounds to me as though you have put the iPod into disk mode and transferred music to the iPod using Windows Explorer, in which case you are using the iPod as a simple storage device. However, you cannot play that music - you have to add it to the iPod via iTunes.
So, install iTunes on your computer. You can download iTunes by clicking on this link; http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Add your music to iTunes, this becomes your iTunes library.
If you wish to put songs into Playlists, do this in your iTunes Library before connecting the iPod. (Usually, you make changes etc. in your iTunes Library. Only after that should you connect the iPod to it. We can discuss the exceptions to this later if you wish.)
You then connect the iPod to the computer and let iTunes Sync the Library to the iPod.
Once the Sync has completed (you will see a message confirming this), eject the iPod using the eject iPod button in iTunes.
Play the music on the iPod (and in iTunes).
    By the way;
you may need to use Windows Explorer to remove the files you previously added to the iPod, as they will be taking up space on it that you want for music.
don't let anyone tell you either "not to use iTunes" or that "you don't need to use iTunes". iTunes is tailor-made for the iPod and it really is the best way to manage your iPod. Furthermore, using Sync (you'll see it when you work with iTunes) is the best method for adding or removing music to the iPod. There is an alternative method know as Manual Managing, but Sync is by far the better way to manage an iPod Classic.
If you need any further help, either with iTunes, arranging your Library, or with the iPod itself, post back into this thread rather than creating a new one, as it will make it easier to see where you have got to so far.

  • I would like to copy the music I have on my iPod to my iPhone, How do I do this?

I have an iPod with over 700 songs on it.  I would like to move or copy those songs to my iPhone.  How do I do this?

Well, if the music that is on your iPod came from your iTunes library, then sync the phone to the same library. However, since you are here asking this, I'm guessing you don't have this music anywhere else but on teh iPod, correct?
If this is music that you have purchased from iTunes, then you can authorize the computer you sync to and download purchases. You also have the option if they are purchases to transfer the purchases to the iPhone if it is signed in with the same Apple ID.
If this is not purchased content, then you will have to look at a 3rd party option. See this user hint from a fellow user https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
