HT204074 Can one account have 2 user id's?

My GF just purchased an iphone, as we live together and share the same music and apple tv,s I would like to sign her on to my account. I would go ahead and use my apple id on her phone so we can both access the cloud, but I want us to be able to use facetime when one of us is away. How should I go about this? Can one facetime another device with the same apple id and password, or can one account have 2 users with different ids that both have full access?

Hi BadLeprechaun,
The easiest way to do what you are wanting to do is to have your girlfriend set up her own, unique Apple/iTunes/iCloud ID.
Both IDs can access and use purchases on the same iTunes library as long as the User signed onto the machine is a single user. and by "User" here, I mean th person who is actually signed onto the Mac or Computer - not who is signed onto iTunes, for example).
Once she sets up her own ID, have her open iTunes on the computer, sign you out of iTunes in the iTunes Store, and sign herself in. Then she needs to authorize that computer so it recognizes her Apple ID as a valid ID to use this iTunes library.
Then, you both have access to eachother iTunes purchases, and can continue to share any data that is in the Library based on your syncing preferences for your respective devices.
With her own Apple/iTunes/iCloud account, you wll be able to FaceTime, and message eachother with no issues. Although you use two different phone numbers, if you have both devices signed on with the same Apple/iTunes/iCloud ID, it just looks like another device owned by you, so things start to really get co-mingled.
Just a suggestion!
Cheers,

No, iPads are basically single-user devices, it can only have one set of content on it

I have a problem when trying to download/purchase new music, I receive three security questions to set for security purposes. After listing the questions and answers I click the continue or enter and I receive an error message that my answers could not be saved. This began after entering code from an itunes card recently purchased, I was able to purchase 1 song and then this issue came up.

Your title seems to have nothing to do with your post.
Is your question "can one pc have multiple ipods"? If so, then yes. You can sync as many ipods as you like to one comptuer.
Or is your question something to do with the body of your post?

AFAIK no. The files which are present on the disk/file system only and not on asm, are not managed by it so no support for asm based striping and mirroring would be there for them.Second, rebalancing is NOT done for the files but for the disks when they are not present or have become offline due to some reason.

Just remember one type, System Commit Number and forget about rest.
4.what are the wait events views on RAC clusters used? to monitor the cluster events and rectify the issues? Please see the Performance Tuning section of Oracle RAC Admninistration guide with a special attention to Cluster wait class and wait events related to it. Best is, use EM and it would show all the things in a nice manner.

• Can one mac have multiple iCloud accounts?

Hi, we have a family Mac, and everyone uses one Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes except for me. I want to get my Pages documents to sync with my phone iPad and the family mac, but the others in my family still need to use their iCloud account too.

You can create separate user accounts and sign into your respective iCloud accounts within your user account.

• One account and two user names??? HOW??

Hi,
First of all, I own 5 Macs in my company, from iMac 24" to Macmini, the entire line. Use Macs since Classic model, so I'm not totally dumb... or may be I am
It started with a problem syncing iCal and Contacts. The database files became corrupted. Checked the logs and it seemed an permissions problem. try to fixed but the problem returned.
Of course I deleted iCal and contact files at Library, create new one and imported from backup - the same problem happened.
Then I started to dig the problema and when I looked at my keychains I found that I have two user names "sharing" the same user account...how?? one is marcio and other is Marcio Esteves.
I can't find any reference to this second user name apart from keychain. Tryied to delete the keychain and create a new one but the same... When trying to fix the keychain it show me this:
Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for marcio (user ID=502)
Home directory is /Users/marcio
Checked login keychain
Checked default keychain
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
No problems found

Of course I can format the HD and re-install from the scratch but I'm curious because, as far as I know, user names and accounts can not be duplicated.
The only thing that occurs to me is when I bought this machine - MB pro 2.4 - I imported the account from my previous MB pro AFTER change user name from "marcio" to "Marcio Esteves", keeping the same home directory name as "marcio" (as still today).
So, how can I fix it without formatting and installing everything again??

Every account on a Mac has two names. These names are called different things depending on the version of the OS and whether you are looking at the System Preferences|Accounts panel or the Workgroup Manager on a server. The "Name" or "Full Name" and the "Short Name" or "Account Name". The short name is the typical unix username. and the full name is just that, your full name. The Mac allows you to use either of these in any of the GUI dialog boxes that ask for your user name and password. At the command line I think you can only use your short name. I see that in OS X 10.6, once you create an account, you cannot see the short name in the System Preferences|Accounts panel any longer.
At a command line (in the Terminal application for example) you can type id or whoami to see your short name.
I think it is probably normal for entries in your keychain to refer to both or either of these names.
As for creating new accounts and copying files I think you should be able to do most of that when logged in as an admin user (which you don't normally do, right?).
Does that help?

• Why can't I have 2 users with 2 different apple ID's on my iMac

Just bought a new iMac, I have set up 2 user accounts, one for myself the other for my Fiance. We both have different apple ID's yet we can't both download our purchases. As he has already downloaded his old purchases on to the new Mac, when I try, it brings up the box saying that "this computer is already associated with another apple ID, therefore it can't be used with my ID for another 90 days"
I have tried to get Apple Support to help me out but they just pushed me down the route of Home Share, this isn't working as the laptop with all the music on, isn't always turned on.
Does anyone know how to solve my problem? Apple say that it can be done, yet 3 live chats, 2 phone calls and many hours later and I still can't access my purchased items, surely the iMac should be able to have multiple users with multiple apple ID's???
Please help!!

No, once the initial 90 days has passed, you should both be able to download. My husband and I share an iTunes library, and to the best of my knowledge, we do not have issues with both of us being able to download.
I'll double-check it tonight when he gets home, but I'm fairly certain we are now both able to do it.
I'll post back once I've tested it.
Cheers,

• Can one computer have two iTunes accounts?

I'd like to be able to plug and play my iPod on my girlfriends computer (and I'd like to get my library on here as well so I can get all my music off of my poor little laptop). I'm really not sure what version of Nano I have, all I know is that it's about two years old, so a G4 or 5? ::shrug:: I'm not sure what the evolutionary visualization of the Nano looks like. I don't want access to her library, just mine on her computer. Is this doable?

I figured it out! I'm such a goof... All I had to do was turn on Home Sharing! ::smacks herself in the forehead:: Doh! ::sheepish grin:: Sorry everyone! I hope everyone has a satisfactory, non-denominational Capitalist, wintertime gift giving season!

• Migrate one account from multi-user laptop to new hard drive

Hello - I aologize if this has been asked/answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it.
I have a MacBook unibody whose hard drive is reaching capacity; plus I am giving it to my daughter to take to college.
I am "upgrading" the machine with an internal SSD, a larger HDD, and making the optical drive external.
I want to move *just her account* to the new SSD. The new SSD isn't much bigger than the curren internal drive, so I want to put her Music, Movies, and Pictures on a 300 GB HDD partition and use the remaining 200 GB paritition for Time Machine backups.
I know this is a lot of things. I don't think I have any questions about how to do this physically -- I bought all the accessories from OWC, including an external enclosure for the optical drive and their USB to eSATA (etc.) connector to dupe the existing drive to the new drive.
The problem is that it's not a simply "duplication" issue. I don't want a clone of the old drive. To further complicate things, my daughter's current account is not an administrator account, and it needs to be an administrator account on the new drive (it's the only account that will be on the new drive.
"OLD" LAPTOP "NEW" LAPTOP
My account (administrator) N/A
Wife's account N/A
Sister's account N/A
Target Daughter Account Yes, as administrator
Her files Yes, all of them
Photos, Movies, Music --> new internal HDD, 300 GB partition
Documents --> OK to be on SSD
Time Machine 200 GB partiion, new internal HDD
Applications Virtually all of them
Anyone else's files None
So -- am I making this waay to complicated? Should I just install Lion on the new internal drive, set her as with a new administrator account, and then drag the files I want into the locations I want? Do all the files associated with the Home folder have to live on the same drive?
Any help, much appreciated.

It's a lot to consider, but the short answer is that Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant will do what you want. Setup Assistant may be easier in your case. In any event what you propose sounds like a good idea.
My first question is how do you intend to connect the various drives. If you install the SSD and leave the MacBook's internal HD in place, that would seem to be the simplest thing to do. Install Lion on the SSD, then, boot from it. A new installation of Lion will call Setup Assistant to initially configure her user account and migrate data from her existing account - you will choose the option to migrate from another hard disk. You can choose the user account from the existing installation, and Setup Assistant will permit you to choose what to migrate. If you have the space, migrate everything, since you are about to remove the existing hard disk drive (if you do not have sufficient space, you will need to remove the existing HD and use it externally, since you will need to install the larger, empty one first).
Make sure you check the box to allow that user to administer the computer. It might be a good idea to promote her account to Administrator before starting any of this anyway.
Next, remove the existing HD and install the larger, empty one. Boot the MacBook, log in under her account, partition and format the HD using Disk Utility.
Drag her entire Pictures, Music, and Movies folders to the data partition. When you launch iTunes (for instance) hold the Option key. That will cause a prompt to appear asking you to locate her iTunes Library. Select the one on the designated partition. Repeat for iPhoto.
Make sure that all her photos and music appears as expected. Once you are satisfied it's working properly you can delete those folders from the SSD.
Next is Time Machine but after all this work that ought to be easy enough to figure out.
I hope this makes sense.
There are other alternatives including using Carbon Copy Cloner or the equivalent to clone the existing HD to the SSD, then deleting the accounts you do not need. It's up to you to determine if that is simpler.

• Can one computer have 2 apple IDs?

My question is simple. My family all uses one Apple ID based on my husbands email address for all our purchases and it works fine in our family. Over the years as we updated computers however, about one third of our songs became deauthorized on the computer, and no longer play. When I check these songs in itunes it asks me to authorize them using an Apple ID based on an old email of mine. I don't remember ever having another apple ID, but you never know, I may have screwed something up along the way. How can I check out this apple ID? Can I just authorize the computer for this apple ID without losing/deleting/messing up our main normal apple ID? I am happy for all the music to be in one big music account - none of my question pertains to having separate accounts or IDs for family members.I simply want to know if these two apple IDs can exist harmoniously together on one computer without messing things up.

Yes. You need to sign in with the correct Apple ID.
You can check it out on computer iTunes, select the song, right click and choose "Get Info"
You can see Purchased by and Apple ID used to obtain them.
If it's only a few, your choice is to delete them from computer and buy them again with the correct Apple ID

• Can one textfield have multiple text backgrounds?

Hello guys,
I have been trying to find a way to color the backgrounds of different words in a single textfield with different colors.
For an example, lets imagine the whole text is a story which has nouns and verbs...etc
Now I want to show the full text which is my story and highlight the background of nouns in blue, verbs in red.
Please see the attachment.
Then I have dedicated toggle buttons for each types. The use of those buttons is removing or showing those backgrounds. For an example and when user clicks on noun button it will remove or show the background of all the nouns. Same for the button for verbs.
Then you may ask why I can't achieve this by using separate textfield for each word in the story and line them like a paragraph.
The problem is user should be able to edit those text. So those are INPUT typed textfields. So all the words should move within the boundaries of paragraph when user keep changing one word. Please see the second attachment and you may see that I have changed the first word by typing "abcde", so as I type all other words should move like you type inside a textfield. So thats why I think if we can achieve it using single textfield rearranging words as user types is taken care of the textfiled so we don't need to place all the words manually.
When I was trying to think of a way to do it, I found that background is only a property of TextField, but not TextFormat.
If it was a property of textformat then I could have set different formats for different words in same textfield.
So that option is out.
Also I thought of using CSS with htmlText. But unfortunately text-background is not supported by actionscript stylesheet class.
I really appreciate if you can post your expert ideas to help me how to achieve this task.
Thanks
Nisha

Is there an expert to answer this question please?
Any big guns...

• One account with several user devices

My wife and I both have iPhones. I recently discovered the icloud features, but unfortunately don’t have much use for it. My wife has not used the feature yet either, but now I got her an iPad for Christmas and I feel that she will find it useful for syncing calendar info between her ipad and iphone. My question is, we both share the same iTunes account for downloading apps and music, and to my understanding, this is that same account used when using iCloud. How does iCloud distinguish (or how do I configure) her calendars, and other iCloud info to be synced between only her devices and leave my devices out, and vice versa (being that we use the same account)?
I figure that this is a typical family setup so there must be a simple solution to this, but what is it? Whatever solution that may be, personal things like calendar events we would like to keep limited to sync to our own devices, but things like app purchases, song purchases and pictures taken I can see that we may want to “share” between ALL devices. Is a setup like this possible?

Check to see whether your account is listed as the owner of both folders in the Ownership & Permissions section of the Get Info window, which is available by control-clicking the folder; if so, open the NetInfo Manager in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, click the padlock, and type in your password. Next, locate the home property for your user account and change the instance of Dad to Peter in it without changing or deleting any other accounts, groups, or properties. Log out and log back in.
The contents of the Users folder do not indicate which accounts are present on the machine; this folder is the default location for the home folders associated with accounts you've created. It is possible to have a folder inside Users without a corresponding account, and you can have an account on the machine without its home folder being in Users; this applies to system-level accounts by default, but you can set it up for your account or other accounts you've created in the NetInfo Manager.

• Using Migration Assistant to Move Data Files from one Account to New User

Is it possible or recommended to use Migration Assistant to move data files from an old user account to a new user account on the same volume/hard disk?

Migration Assitant cannot be used as a simple file transfer utility. MA can transfer an entire Home folder or entire Users folder but not individual files.
In general files in one user account cannot be moved to another user account as this would violate built-in security measures.
What you can do is to copy the files to an external device like a hard drive or flash drive. First log in to the old account. Then configure the drive to ignore preferences by Pressing COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and check the Ignore permissions on this volume checkbox at the bottom of the window. Copy your files to the device. Log into the new account. Verify the external drive is still configured to ignore permissions (reset it, if not.) Copy the files from the external device into the Home folder of the new account. I would create a temporary folder for these files. If you still end up without the proper permissions you will need to make modifications that are easier done if all the files are in a single folder.

• Can one instance have multiple redo threads ?

i was reading the Oracle Data guard 10g guide and it says
Determine the appropriate number of standby redo log file groups.
Minimally, the configuration should have one more standby redo log file group than the number of online redo log file groups on the primary database. However, the recommended number of standby redo log file groups is dependent on the number of threads on the primary database. Use the following equation to determine an appropriate number of standby redo log file groups:
(maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads
Using this equation reduces the likelihood that the primary instance's log writer (LGWR) process will be blocked because a standby redo log file cannot be allocated on the standby database. For example, if the primary database has 2 log files for each thread and 2 threads, then 6 standby redo log file groups are needed on the standby database
while Oracle's definition of redo log states the following
Redo Threads
When speaking in the context of multiple database instances, the redo log for each database instance is also referred to as a redo thread. In typical configurations, only one database instance accesses an Oracle Database, so only one thread is present. In an Oracle Real Application Clusters environment, however, two or more instances concurrently access a single database and each instance has its own thread of redo.
this is confusing, in a typical environment where only one instance accesses a database, can we have more than one redo thread ?

Though you can create multiple threads but of no use in NON-RAC or non-parallel server configuration.
Following is the generic formula. You should consider
maximum number of threads = 1 for single instance (NON-RAC).
(maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads

• Can one button have multiple targets based on value of item?

I have a button on a form and based on the value of an item, when clicked, different pages need to be accessed. Is this possible to do? If so, any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Application Express 3.1.2.00.02

This is quite straightforward to do using conditional branches. Create a branch at the appropriate branch point (e.g. On Submit: After Processing...) for every target page, and set a PL/SQL Expression condition for each branch:
:request = '<button_name>'
and :<item_name> = <item_value>substituting <button_name>, <item_name> and <item_value> with the appropriate values from your app (and changing the "=" in the item expression if some other condition is used). The built-in attribute REQUEST contains the name of the button that submitted the page.
