You need to pay your mobile network provider for the calls, SMS and data you need to use your phone. This is an ongoing charge, usually paid monthly.
This is nothing to do with Apple. Apple only provided the handset - not the mobile network you use it on.

You can check the purchase history on your account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, though I'm not sure if that shows auto-renewing subscriptions. Have you added or changed your credit card details on your account (when you do then a small temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the details are correct and valid, which should disappear within a few days) ? If you haven't changed your card details or can't find or don't recognise what the charge is for then you can contact iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

You've checked the purchase history on your account ? You didn't have any pre-orders and/or auto-renewing subscriptions that were due ? If you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases.
If you don't recognise the charge, and nobody else has access to your account or devices and may have made it, then try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Go back to iTunes, select the Music tab, uncheck the 'sync music; button, then hit apply.

Scroll down to the bottom of your screen. It should say redeem. Click on that, then enter the code. If you are signing up for an account, then press other method, then click itunes card, then enter code. Hope This helps.

Did you follow the instructions on that page exactly when you created the account ? They worked for me yesterday on my computer's iTunes when I tried them in response to another thread.
e.g. I logged out of my existing account and found a free app in the store and clicked on its free 'price'
I then clicked on 'create Apple id' on the popup :
And after agreeing to the terms and filling in my details I was able to select 'none' as the payment method.

Do you have a credit card registered in your account? Do you have a large credit on your account from redeeming an iTunes gift card?

Assuming you were not buying a gift for someone else - gifts cannot be purchased using a credit balance - and that you're logged into the iTunes Store account through which you redeemed the card and there's a balance showing, another user in the forums posted this as the reply from the iTunes Store when this issue was brought up. I'm sorry you weren't able to make a purchase using your store credit. To purchase items on the iTunes Store with your store credit, your account information in your user profile needs to be corrected. I'll walk you through this process to get you back up and running in no time.
1) Visit the My Apple ID website at: http://appleid.apple.com
2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
5) Click "Addresses" in the column on the left. If you have multiple shipping addresses, remove any out-of-date or duplicate addresses by clicking Delete. Also, make sure the state or province field is filled out correctly for each address. To edit an address, click Edit. Edit all of your shipping addresses and make sure the appropriate state is selected in the State drop-down menus.
6) Now click "Phone Numbers" on the left. The area codes should be in the area code fields and the phone numbers should be in the phone number fields. If an area code is missing, or if it is in a phone number field, your account information may not save properly.
7) Make any other necessary corrections, then click the Save Changes button.
8) Click Log out in the upper-right corner. When you make your next purchase on the iTunes Store, you will be asked to review your billing information. At this point, you can change your information or simply click Done at the bottom of the screen to proceed. Previously in-app purchases should download again without any charge. I know, it's not clear since you'll have to click on the price to download again you should get a message that it will be downloaded at no charge.
