To remove the apple id from the device, go to Settings>icloud>delete account. NOTE: this will only remove the account from the iPad. It will not delete the account.

Your Apple ID is used for several services through your iPhone. To replace the previous Apple ID you will need to sign out of it in a few different spots and sign in with the current Apple ID (depending on what Apple ID you choose to use for each individual service). The services you may need to sign out of old Apple ID and into new one could include iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. You can see what Apple ID is currently signed in and sign out of it in the following areas: Settings > iCloud, Settings > Messages, Settings > FaceTime, and Settings > iTunes & App Store. You cannot delete an Apple ID; just remove any/all personal information and it'll fade into obscurity. Remember that anything you purchased at the app store will need that Apple ID and password to be updated.

This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

Every time I have to enter my Apple ID, on the Apple site or on iTunes, it is auto-filled with an old, never-used Apple ID email name and password. Brendan, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately neither of these helped. There are no checkboxes ticked for Safari (and I only use Firefox, generally) and I am able to sign in after signing off. But when I go to sign in here I get the [email protected] filled in as in the attached. And I have been using [email protected] as my defsult email and also my Apple ID user name since before there was an iCloud. So what now?

I was given an iPhone 4 by my daughters friend, I use it for my sons to play games on only, its not connected to our phone service, but his apple id is still associated with the phone and after I updated the phone, it keeps asking me for his password, which I do not know nor can I get in touch with him to find out. It is using his apple id for an iCloud account, which I have never used. I sync the phone with iTunes on my iMac with my apple id and my kids can purchase things using my ID, but his is still coming up and its frustrating my kids, lol, because every 2 seconds a prompt comes up to enter the Apple ID password for his email to sign into iCloud. Not sure why its doing it more now, maybe because of the update?? Its version IOS 8.1.3. Please help me and help me delete and disassociate his account from this phone! Thanks!

And by the way, this was NOT a lost or stolen phone, it was given to my daughter who then gave it to her brothers to play games on. It was legally obtained!

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

Go to 'Settings' and 'Store' and then click on the 'Apple ID' and sign out and back in with your correct one.
