HT204135 Unrecognisable characters when printing PDFs

Hello people,
When printing downloaded PDFs (Electric/Gas bills etc) i cannot read them, the printing is unrecognisable. This is either direct from safari or downloaded.
I am printing wireless and dont have a problem with other files when printing, they are printing correctly.
I am using the software that came from apple via auto download and its version 9
Any ideas anyone?
Paul

Check whether the fonts installed and active are the same. In particular, look for font conflicts in Font Book, and resolve them so both computers are using the same versions.

  • Odd characters when printing PDFs from iMac (10.6.3)

When printing a PDF from the iMac (new 27") above, we get odd characters printed down the right margin of the page. These characters do not appear when viewing in either Acrobat Reader or Preview. This also does not happen when printing from Parallels. The printer is an HP Officejet 6000. Just to throw an added wrench into this, the problem does not happen when printing from a new Mac Mini (also 10.6.3) to the same printer. Any solutions?

  • How can I save to the same map every time when printing pdfs?

How can I save to the same map every time when printing pdfs?
Finder points to the document map even when I chose a different map recently.
I often print series of pdfs from the print dialog box, I'd like to choose the map to save to and then have all subsequent pdf prints automatically directed to the same map until I decide otherwise.

that link seems to be broken right now:

  • Discoverer Plus - Problem with Page Orientation when printing pdf's

    Hi,
When printing pdf's in Disco Plus I have a problem:
My workbooks are a mixture of landscape and portrait pages.
I am printing the entire workbook and then using cutepdf to produce a pdf.
If I print to paper I get the correct landscape/portrait settings.
If I print to pdf then landscape pages appear vertically when I view on screen so that the text is running from bottom to top of the page.
So it is picking up th portrait/landscape settings from the individual worksheets but cutepdf has not realised that the pages are landscape so they appear on the screen vertically.
This was not a problem on discoverer desktop so I am confident that this is not a problem with cutepdf.
    Any thoughts?

  • Intermittent Problem of Corruption when printing PDF files

From time to time I have a problem with text corruption when printing pdf files. Text comes out one character alphabetically later.
For example, a file I printed yesterday contained the text "ONE WEEK VISITOR LICENCE". On printing it again today (on the same computer and printer), it appeared as "POF!XFFL!WJTJUPS!MDFODF". But another attempt immediately afterwards was correct. Here is a scan of the correct and incorrect printouts
I have had this problem intermittently over a couple of years, particularly with pdf files embedded as a frame in a web page.
I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.0 (but the problem has also appeared on earlier versions), Windows XP SP3 with all updates and an HP Deskjet 6980 printer on a wireless link.
    Any advice would be welcome

Not sure why this may be happening. But you can try printing the PDFs as an image, which should solve the problem. It may take a little longer to print but at least you will get a correct print.
You can do the same by Clicking on the Advanced button displayed on the Print dialog and checking the checkbox for "Print as Image".
Hope that this fixes the issue.

Can you try to install the latest Lexmark printer driver (http://support.lexmark.com/index?segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_US&locale=en&productCode=LE XMARK_P6250&page=product).

  • Printer Preferences is not available when printing PDF

Printer Preferences is not available when printing PDF
I have a PSC 1315 printer I have been using for several years on a system with Windows XP without any problem.  After
purchasing an HP Pavilion 500 with Windows 8.1 Pro, I migrated my printer to the new computer.  I was disallowed to use the
original driver, and was directed to download the latest driver and software for this printer from an HP website.  At
first, things seemed ok, until I ran across several issues, one of which is this one.
Whenever I try printing a PDF file, Windows 8 does not let me see printer preferences.  My work around is to go into
printer properties and save changes as default, then I can print PDF files.  What happened to the preferences window?  It
appears I have lost functionality with the upgrade.
Is this a known problem, and what's the solution?

  • Unidentifiable text when printing PDF's

When printing PDF's from Adobe Reader XI with my HP Laserjet J410 printer I get a document filled with unreadable font which overlaps itself as shown below. I'm running Windows Server 2012 R2 and have checked the printer settings as far as I know they are all fine. I have looked for an option to restore the printer settings to there default but haven't found anything. Printing PDF's works fine with my other printer it is just this one which seemingly has an issue. Any suggestions?

Try Print as Image (Advanced button on Print panel).

  • Text missing when printing PDF

We're having a problem with printing PDFs to our networked large format Canon ipf8000 printer from our Mac Pros. We have two Mac Pros, both are having the same problem. When printing a PDF through Acrobat Pro that we have created using either from Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign, that contains live text information (font's are embedded as the applications do this by default when saving a PDF), none of the text will print. All graphics and images will print but text will not.
This initially started off as an issue where the printer would print some characters incorrectly, then this progressed to printing complete gobbledygook, to not printing any text at all.
We had thought that it may be a printer driver problem, but we recently just bought a new printer (same model, just an updated version ipf8300), and installed the new drivers for it and this issue still occurs on this machine.
Converting the text to outline before saving the PDF and sending it to print is the only solution we have found so far to get the text to print.
I have tried printing the same document from a PC, again using Acrobat Pro, and it has gone through completely fine, all text is present and correct, which leads us to believe it is a Mac related issue and not a printer related one.
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix for the problem, other than what we are doing currently?

  • ColdFusion 8 drops Arabic characters when generating PDF doc

    Hello All,
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong here! I have trouble with generating a PDF document from ColdFusion.
The cfm document contains mixed English and Arabic text and it seems that the ColdFusion's embedded PDF Generator drops Arabic characters when creating the PDF file.
I attached a bare bone cfm document (see print_test.cfm) that I used as an example to the stated problem.
    The document:
displays fine in FireFox 3.0.10 (see attached print_test_screenshot.jpg) Used link:
    http://localhost:8500/Print_test.cfm?display=yes
This image file also shows the characters that get dropped by the ColdFusion's embedded PDF Generator.
is converted fine in PDF by the FireFox 3.0.10 using print command line (see attached print_test_firefox.pdf) Used command:
    “C:\Program  Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -print "http://localhost:8500/Print_test.cfm?display=yes"  -printmode pdf -printfile "c:\pdf\print_test_firefox.pdf" -printdelay  150
is NOT converted to PDF properly by the ColdFusion using the embedded PDF generator (see attached print_test_cf.pdf) Used command:  http://localhost:8500/Print_test.cfm
The print_test.cfm file, which I had to remove since this forum allows me to post only 3 attachments, has the following content:

  • When printing PDF file, have FORM TEXT in text fields

When I print a PDF file, I get { FORMTEXT } in all the text fields (as well as { FORMCHECKBOX } for where the person would circle an answer) and I don't know how to turn it off. Appreciate any help.
I also get symbols where there should be a regular empty box (where then someone would just put an x or check mark).

Do you mean that you get this when printing FROM a word document with
form fields TO a PDF? If so, you have to turn off your Word option
    that prints field names.
