HT204150 Dragging multiple contacts to Mail

How do you add multiple iCloud contacts to an email. When you drag them over they just bounce back to contacts. I can type them in one at a time but that's ridiculous!

You can still open the stand alone Contacts App located in your applications folder and then drag and drop your contacts into the "To" field and it will add them. Also As you said.
If you want to select multiple people in the Contacts App, you can ( Command ) ( Click ) them and then drag and drop them into the "To" field.
You can also place all the contacts into a group in the Contacts App. Then either drag and drop the group name from The Contacts App to the "To" field in Mail or you can start to type out the group name in the "To" field in Mail and from the pop down list select the group name and it will add all the contacts from that group.

How to email multiple contacts with mail in yosemite (holding down the shift key no longer works)?

Does anyone know if it is possible to select multiple contact email addresses simultaneously from the contact list in Yosemite in a similar fashion to what we used to do (hold down the shift key)? I have tried all the key combinations I can think of and none of them work. The "smart" address is a pain to use (to me at least) and I would have to make so many groups up to do what I use to do with just a few key strokes that I am really frustrated. Thanks for any help.

Is there a way to share multiple contacts in the same email?

Before Mavericks I could drag multiple contacts into a single email. Now under Mavericks when I do that and send, the recipient gets blank vCards.

What I am discussing is wanting to share several contacts with someone in a single email. Before the Mavericks update I could drag multiple vCards from Contacts to an open email and they would appear as attachments. When I do that now the email recipient gets vCards that are blank when opened.

How do you click/drag multiple emails in Mail.app in Mountain Lion?
In Lion I used to be able to click and drag, highliting multiple emails to be able to drag to trash - I can't seem to get that function to work in Mountain Lion.

On my new MacBook Pro, doing this from the trackpad is taking some practice. First, in Apple Menu/System Preferences/Trackpad/Point & Click, I have Tap to Click and Three finger drag truned on.
To multiple select email, I first move the pointer to the first email and then quickly one-finger tap and then three-finger touch, hold and drag. Fiddley, but least it works.
In the last version of Mail I used (V 3.6 under 10.5.8 on a PPC laptop) click-draging verticaly did a multiple select, while click-dragging horizontally did a move. I never found any documentation for this, nor any other place in the mac user interface which made this distinction. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on, but that is how it worked, and once I realized this, it was very handy.

Yes you can by creating a group and then dragging the contacts in to it. However, since iCloud, the Edit Distribution List feature has been grayed out. Without that feature, it is not possible to specifically select a single email address for those contacts that have multiple email addresses. A major flaw that will hopefully be fixed.

Used to be that you could click multiple contacts while holding down the Command key so they were all selected and appeared in the "TO" field of an email or Message. It seems that with Yosemite I have to select each recipient separately, then go back to the contacts list. I figure I'm doing something wrong (probably real obvious to all but me). I also want to know how I can send to a "GROUP" of recipients so that (a) all the cards in that group receive the email, and (b) none of the email addresses or recipients are visible (e.g., "Some Friends", or "Family" is all they see in the "To" field. Create a new group in your Contacts with those recipients. In Mail type the name of the group into the BCC field and hit the Tab key.
By using the BBC field the recipients will only see their name at the top and in the To field will be "Undisclosed recipients" in the To field when they receive it.

Yes, when logon to ePrint Center, at the top frame, left hand side, there is a place you can +Add Printer. Click to this and follow the instructions.

Trouble using contacts with mail

Does anyone know how to select multiple contacts to address a message in Apple Mail? I understand how to use the "+" sign to bring up contacts, but I can only select one email address and then the contact window closes. Very frustrating trying to select multiple email addresses. . .

Add the Address icon to the toolbar of the new message window.
Open new message window
Customise the toolbar
Drag the Address icon to the toolbar (an any other items you see that you want)
Done
Now click on the Address icon in the toolbar
Select the multiple receipents by holding the Command button
Click on To: or Cc: or Bcc: and all those receipients are added to the email fields.

Some contact e-mails don't show up in groups

Yosemite 10.10.2 OS. Contacts v 9. Macbook Air. I just finished dragging some contacts into a group to use for sending group e-mails. When I go to edit distribution list so I can select which e-mail address from each contact I want to set as default, there are a few contacts who are missing some or all of their addresses. I have checked the contacts email addresses and they are all properly formated [email protected], but for some reason they are not on the list. For contacts with no e-mails showing in the distribution list, they not only do not allow me to select a default e-mail, but those contacts don't show up in the e-mail at all

Never mind. Just found the place to change this under settings. What's weird is the setting got changed on its own somehow but weirder things have certainly happened...

How do you add multiple addresses from Mail to Address Book at once?

So let's say I receive an email to myself and 50 other recipients and I want to add those other recipients to my address book. Do I seriously have to go through and select "Add to Address Book" on each of the fifty contacts?! Tried doing a shift click which will highlight all contacts, but then when you right-click to get the "add to address book option" it only displays one single contact at the top of the menu. I know there is a way to add select and add multiple contacts to address book at once because I figured out how to do it once a long time ago and I still have the 67 card group to prove it. I just can't remember how I did it!!! Didn't think it'd be such a hard feature to re-discover. Would love some help on this! Thanks.

there is no built-in way to do this. the only way i know is by using Mail Scripts

Can I drag my Mac Pro Mail folder to my MBP?

I have POP accounts on my Mac Pro (MP) which is my main computer. My MacBook Pro (MBP) I use when on the road, duh..
I want to be able to access my Apple Mail from my MP when on the road using my MBP (Mountain Lion).
I have an external mirror backup of my MP plugged into my MBP so I can access all files. But I'm trying to find a good
solution how to access my MP On My Mac Apple Mail folders.
If I drag my MP > Library > Mail folder to my MBP and replace my Mail folder on my MBP, when I launch my Mountain Lion (ML)
version of Apple Mail app on my MBP, that will now be accessing my MP Mail folder files, will my MBP Apple Mail be able
to access and read the replace Mail folder and thus I will be able to see all my MP stored On My Mac mail folders and mail?
Apple doesn't support this kind of POP stuff, but I'm exploring if I could damage my ML OS, or ML Mail application?
If the mail got lost, I still have it on my external backup and of course on my MP at my office.
I gather you can't launch Mail from an external drive while booted up off the MBP internal drive...
The other idea I'm contemplating is getting something like SplashTop which would allow my MBP to access my MP
and just launch Mail remotely.
And.. I did try option booting my MBP off the bootable external drive, but because it's got Lion on it and not ML,
the fans on my MBP didn't operate, so that's bad and I shut down immediately.
That's the saga... I can't be the only person on a MBP trying to work with and access Mail folders/files from another
computer and hoping for some creative solutions.

I actually have it the other way thinking of my iDevices as windows into my mail and my MP as my main repository. I also set my devices to delete of server any mail I move from my devices inbox to minimize multiple deleting unwanted mail.
But the real issue was to be able to access all my stored mail on my MP when traveling. IMAP is a way to go, yes. But my concern, please educate me if I'm wrong, I have 6 email accounts. With POP I can drag any email from any account to the ame folder on my MP.
As I understand IMAP each account would have its own sets of folders. So where I have "Work" ot "ToDo" folder that hold all mail regardless of account, I couldn't have one folder "Work" and drag all mail to it because folders are created per account, per ISP (and I have multiple accounts from various ISPs).
So I'd have to have a Work folder for each IMAP account and have check each instead of one the way it's set using POP - ON MY MAC on my MP.
If I'm right abou this, then using a remote app like SplashTop 2 to use any device to login to my MP to read, reply, delete, store, then is a great solution since I'm actually working on my MP remotely. Only problem would be if I forgot to turn my MP on before traveling.
Am I on the right path?

Address Book Multiple contacts?

For some reason, when I drag new contacts to a group this has somehow merged all the contacts? i.e each contact or primary email has 100 or more duplicate work contacts. I could delete one by one in edit card but I have around 1000 conacts all with multiple emails which is very time consuming and makes the mac run very slowly. All I need is the header email as I'm colating a data base ..
any ideas

I performed the following to troubleshoot but multiple instances of Personal Address Book remained:
* Manually deleted the Google contacts. TB is no longer creating multiple instances of abook.mab;
* Added a new contact to one of the Personal Address Books, the new contact appeared in all of them;
* Renamed abook.map, started TB and a new one was created. Still four instances of Personal Address Book were there, however they're now empty;
* Restored abook.map and addresses returned with four instances;
* I tried deleting several files within the Profile directory as I know one of them is creating these instances. I haven't found the one as some have no effect on the Address Book and others bugger up TB, as you would expect.
I know there is a file with some kind of configuration doing this, I just haven't found the one to replace.

Multiple contacts in one company?

Hi all, a quick question on something that's always bugged me. If I enter contact info for multiple employees at the same company, I can never see who those employees are when scrolling through my contact list.
For instance, I if enter the contact info for 4 people at a company called "Floserve", when scrolling through my contacts later on, all I see is 4 duplicate entrees called "Floserve". I have to select them all individually to get the iPhone to scroll to the next field where I can see each employee's name. This is a real pain with 20+ people I need to contact at one company. Is there anyway I can flag people as working at the same company, but have my contacts sorted by their names, and not the duplicated company name?

The way I handle this issue is as one poster already suggested, plus groups. First, the "company" checkbox is for companies, not really people, so it should only be used for the company's entry, not the people associated with it. You can still put the company info in each of the contacts, right where it says "company" when you edit the contact, but don't check the company checkbox.
Next, create a group for each company that has several people, and that you want to have such a group. Drag those contacts into that group. (I use smart groups to collect them: just set a condition whereby the "company" is the company's name, then drag the resulting smart groups contacts into the real group you named after the company). Now when you sync, if you're showing "All Contacts", the people will appear in their alphabetical place, and if you just want to see those who are at that company, just tap "Groups" in the upper left, and tap the group you created for that company. The list will then populate with only those who are in that company. So I have several groups like that, one for each company that has more than just a couple of names that I want to be able to get to by company.
