Hello. I'm trying to delete the custom labels I've created in my contacts on my 4s. They only allow a certain # of labels. Thank you.

If you have Find My iPhone set up on the phone on any computer with a web browser and an Internet connection, log into iCloud.com, go to the Find My iPhone area, select the phone, and use the Erase command.

Unable to create custom phone labels for new contacts since the upgrade

I have a AT&T iphone 4 version 4.3.1 and since the last couple of recent upgrades I have been unable to create custom phone labels for any new contacts because the lower label options are gone. This is only a problem with new contacts. My existing contacts with custom labels are still there and if I edit those contacts the table that has create custom labels is also still there, but not for new contacts. Has anyone else noticed this problem.

If you read the error above about the hash and manifest, you will se this is a RB Setup error and not a CM12 error. You would be better to post your question in the SQL forum or better yet to use BIDS instead.

Custom Phone Labels

Hi,
I'm probably mistaken about this ... getting confused between the Mac and the iPhone, but I thought that previously created Custom phone labels were available to choose from a pop-up list, when making a new contact or editing an existing contact. They are on the iPhone.
Is it my imagination that they have disappeared from Address Book? Is this a MobileMe issue? (I am syncing iPhone via MobileMe).
Also ... any Custom Label added to the Template, is only available to new contact cards, not existing ones. Bug?

From my recollection, what you describe is how it has always been. However, with Snow Leopard, everything was rewritten and some things do not work as they did in Leopard. Apparently, you used to be able to set the label order in the Template in the Leopard version. Now, in the SL version, it is always 'work' first.

Sort Custom Phone Labels?

Just went to add a new phone number for one of my contacts (iPhone 5, current version of iOS 7). When I click on the phone label (for example, main, home, mobile, etc.), I noticed that all the custom labels I've added over the years seem to be in the order they were added. Given that I have dozens of them, it took a while to scroll through the list to find the one I was looking for.
Anyone know of a way to sort these alphabetically?

This feature joins a long list of things that moved backwards rather than forward with the introduction of iOS7. The new operating system compromised this feature creating havoc in custom-made labels. Thousands of users (including me) have sent emails to Apple customer support requesting that the ability to correctly sort be corrected and restored. As of 7.1.1 we are still waiting for a fix.

Perfernece for contact to change. Do I just have to dis-associate my contact fromt the facebook account? Is only the autofill changable?

If you allow Facebook to access your contacts and you have the @facebook.com email alias turned on, it will add the @facebook.com email to your contact info, and because it has the fixed label of "email" it overrides every other email address.
They didn't fix this in iOS 8.
There are two ways to remove the @facebook.com email from your contact info:
If you don't need your Facebook friends and their info updating your contacts, go into iOS Settings -> Facebook and turn off access to Contacts.
If you don't use your @facebook.com email address (all it does it forward to the primary email address) you can go into the Facebook app, More -> Settings -> General -> Email -> and uncheck "Use your Facebook email". Removing it from Account Emails does not work, you have to turn it off. Once you do this, go to iOS Settings -> Facebook and turn Contacts off and on again to make it update your info. The @facebook.com address should be removed.

HT204150 How do I Erase the Autofill selections that come up when I begin typing in a person's name to message?

When I go to begin a text message by entering the person's name I am texting, an auto-fill list pops up of contacts that are not in any accounts of mine but I have messaged before. How do I clear this list? Alternatively, if I have someone in the autofill I want to add to my contacts, how do I do it?

After speaking to 3 apple support folks today, I did find a workaround. The trouble was worth it to avoid seeing an ex's name come up! I have an iPhone 5 with AT&T and I own a Mac.
An Apple tech advised I backup everything on iCloud or computer, create a new iCloud account, and essentially associate that new account with my phone, but use my old iCloud account in the Itunes/Apps settings to retain my music and apps. I recommend the following steps:
1. Back up your iPhone iCloud or your computer
2. Export all of your pics to iPhoto.
3. Using an app called My Contacts Export, I was able to export my 300 contacts into a vcf file to email myself. Very easy!
4. Someone may have a simpler way, but I found another app XCalendar (Excel Calendar) and exported my calendar into Excel and also emailed that to myself to manually re-enter entries (this was the ugly labor intensive part).
5. I created a new Apple ID to be used in ICloud (visit appleid.apple.com)
6. Settings, General, Reset "Erase All Content and Settings" to make the phone a newborn
7. I set up the phone as "new" meaning that I did not associate it with my old or new iCloud account. At that point, I immediately went to Settings, "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and set up my iCloud account using my newly created one. I added my old email accounts here as well which repopulated my inbox.
8. Plugging my iPhone into my Mac, I brought in the photos from iPhoto
9. I opened my email and used the vcf file I emailed myself using the My Contacts Export app and it immediately repopulated all of my contacts :-) So happy!
10. Brought in all of my music from the cloud as well as my apps by going into Settings, "iTunes & App Stores" and turning on iTunes match USING MY OLD APPLE ID (ICLOUD) <-- this is key!
11. Again with my phone plugged into my Mac, I went into iTunes and selected the iPhone icon on the top right near the search bar and went into the "App" tab where I "installed" all of my apps -- click "apply" and they all begin to appear on your phone again!
12. Also had to set up my wallpaper, change my sound and ringtone settings but no big deal to me.
A lot of trouble, but now I'm not reminded of my ex everytime I starting typing with the letter "A" -- well worth it to me at least!

Contact's Custom Phone Labels Won't Sync

If I add a custom label for a phone number in either the iPhone contact list or the Address Book on my Mac, it wont sync to the other.

I'd first try deleting your photo cache. There's instructions on how to find it in the following document:

Siri Doesn't Recognize Custom Phone Labels

This is a problem for all my contacts with multiple names/phone numbers. Hopefully, you can help....
I have custom labels for my friends Jim & Kathy's Cell phones in my contacts. One is labeled "Jim" and the other "Kathy". Using Siri, if I say "Call Jim", I am asked if I want home, work, Jim or Kathy. When I say "Jim", Siri responds with the same question. It is a circular loop. I tried "Jmobile" and "Jim Cell" for labels with the same result. Can I teach Siri to call my phone numbers with custom labels?
Alternately, I tried using the native "mobile" labels and had their name listed after the phone number (6173454334 Jim), but Siri dials the number plus the corresponding numbers for "Jim", which my carrier rejects.
I really don't want to separate my contacts because I synchronize everything with Outlook and Outlook doesn't manage relationships like the iPhone (can't link contacts together). This makes managing my list of friends and family more difficult than it needs to be. Moving off of Outlook is not an option at this time (we use the Outlook calendar in an unusual way that no app has been able to replicate for us yet).
I just want to use Siri to call my contacts when I have multiple phone numbers and names in the same contact card. Anyone know of a way to do that? Much appreciated!

How do I get iMessage and phone to ID proper contact card when caller's appears on multiple cards?

I'm trying to set up the "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) Contact Card on my iPhone. (As recommended by Emergency Personnel, as it is the card they will look for on your phone in the event you are in an accident.)
After inserting my Brother's and my Son's numbers as the contact numbers, whenever i receive a Text or Phone call from either one of them, the call or text is identified as being from ICE. So all photos, ringtones etc don't show up, and i don't know initially if the call is from my brother or my son.
I'm assuming that is happening because the iPhone finds the first instance of the number while searching alpabetically through the contact list. Since ICE occurs alphabetically before the contact cards for my son and my brother, the texts and calls get id'ed as being from ICE.
Is there a way to set the individual cards for my son and for my brother as the default cards to be used when identifying incoming texts and calls?
Since the use of the ICE card is recommended by emergency personnel, perhaps Apple might come up with a solution for an ICE card for those of us with surnames occuring after "I" in the alphabet.
Any help is appreciatied.

How do i stop my i phone 4s deleting my contacts when i set up e-mail?

I have recently upgraded to the i phone 4S. I have restored from my back up on my Macbook. When I put in all my details to set up my e-mail exchange account all the contacts are deleted. I have tried a few times and ensured that the box's next to contacts calenders and reminders are not checked ( so they don't sync) but it is all still deleted. It seems I can have either my e-mail working or my contacts installed and that can't be right. I've seen others have this problem. Please can someone help it's driving me insane!!

Restore you phone from backup again to get your contacts back on your phone. Then download the app My Contacts Backup. This will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email. Send this email to yourself. Now set up your exchange account and let it delete your contacts. Finally, open the email you sent earlier and tap on the attachment to re-import your contacts back to your phone. Hopefully they will stay there.

If so how can I erase all data on the phone so the thief can't access my personal information? is there any other way other than Find my IPhone to wipe off the data on the phone? I really don't want my personal information such as pictures, text messages, notes and social networks profile available to a stranger!!? Help please!!!

You are able to activate an old device and process an insurance claim for your iPhone 4s within 60days from the incident date. Keep in mind if the old phone is not a smartphone and you currently have unlimited data that feature will fall off. If you have a tier data plan no changes will be made. Your old ID connects to an icloud account containing all your data (email, contacts, etc.) If you then use a different ID, you will connect to a different account, which results in losing all your "apple" data, like emails, contacts, calendars, etc.
However, Apple IDs are also used to connect to an itunes store account, with is different. You can keep using the old itunes store ID to keep all your purchases (but if you change to a different ID, you will lose all purchased items) and use the new ID for icloud (but losing emails, contacts, etc. from the old account).

I have a Verizon iPhone 4s recently upgraded to iOS 7. I'm an IT engineer who's on call and started a new job last week with a company that doesn't provide company phones like a blackberry. So now I get tons of company email alerts, text messages, and phone calls both private and for work. I always have my phone switched to vibrate to filter out the noise of generic emails/texts/phone calls, but I also need to be able to configure specific emails sent from our network monitoring servers, text messages from my teammates and alerting devices, as well as phone calls from our internal tech support to be sent with sound. Ideally I also need to be able to configure alert options in an "On-call" profile I can switch on so that I can configure alert repeats and the most annoying noise I can find so I don't sleep through network pages.. But I still want to be able to keep the default vibrate for everyone else and everything else.. How do I create a custom sound/vibration profile per app, SMS text, phone, or email contact? In blackberry's, you can easily create different profiles to switch back/forth and configure each app/text/phone option to either a sound option or vibrate. iPhone seems to be all vibrate or all sound, with little to no options to mix/match the two.. If Apple ever hopes to truly capture the enterprise market blackberry has, this is the most standard and essential feature on blackberries for IT professionals.. If I have to buy a third-party app for this, so be it. But I've been searching for hours and found nothing that creates customized sound/vibrate profiles for iPhone like this (minus jailbreaking your phone, but I shouldn't have to jailbreak a $699 "smartphone" for simple sound/vibrate/alert options like this..).

Yeah Appke wants to be like RIM (Blackberry) who is sinking fast and their devices will be door stops.

As far as I can tell with my iphone what you want to do is not possible. There are sites that tell you how to make different ringtones for the device but your choices to change sounds for email and text/sms messages are controlled unders sounds in the setting menu. Again the manual is on your phone and online if you need assistance changing sounds and ringtones.
