HT204150 iCloud Contacts with iOS devices

I've tried each step under "Troubleshooting iCloud Contacts update or setup issues with iOS devices" several times to no avail.  I can't get icloud to update Contacts on my iPhone 4.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Can't synchronize Contacts across iOS devices: iPad, iPhone

Like many other people, I have issues synchronizing Contacts across iOS devices. I tried all tips given in these forums, to no avail. I have a new iPad that just won't pick up any of the contacts from my old iPhone. Also, the iPad Contacts now doesn't have an Add button anymore (another problem reported by others as well).
Shouldn't it be trivial to merge and synchronize a simple list of contacts via a cloud service ?
Why does it seem to cause so much trouble to so many users ?
    Frustrating.

Yes I had tried all of that, thanks.
What I hadn't tried, was to delete the iCloud account on the new device, and then set it up again.
That solved the problem in my case: the Contacts from the old device (iPhone) are now finally synchronized on the new device (iPad).
Hope this discussion will help other folks who face the same problem !
Try fiddling with the on/off buttons as suggested, and if that fails, try deleting/re-creating the iCloud account on the new device.

  • Edge Animation having troubles with iOS devices within Muse Site

Hi All! I've been creating a mobile version of my website www.rinkdesigns.com and have it all complete. I created an animation/navigation bar within Adobe Edge Animate and imported it into Muse. It functions AMAZINGLY on my Nexus 4 (Android) in Chrome but on a buddies iPhone 5 Chrome only loads about 3/4 of the animation/nav bar, in Safari the animation does not load at all and half of the page background does not load either. Please check out the preview site here http://rinkdesignsmobile.businesscatalyst.com/phone
Has anyone else been having animation/mobile troubles with iOS devices? Any hints as to how you fixed your errors would be extremely helpful! I also posted this question in the Muse forum and haven't gotten a response...
    Thanks,
    John

    Or, how about this:
Does anyone know how to have Edge Animate objects that utilize "_top" in an open url trigger make the Muse site that they are a part of open a new window/tab with that action (as opposed to having it open the url in the current page, or using "_blank" in the trigger)?

  • Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?

Can I search email archive on iCloud server from iOS device, or can I only search what it has downloaded locally?
I currently have an iPhone and iPad, and am soon changing over to a Mac. When that happen I'd like to try to see what I can migrate over from the Google ecosystem to the iCloud ecosystem.
    1) Currently I have the Gmail iOS app (a webapp container) that can search server-side of several years of email archive.  Can iCloud do this using the iOS native mail application?  Or is the search just limited to what the device has downloaded locally?
    2) Do I have to use a @me.com address for the full iCloud email sync to take place between server, Mac, and iOS devices?
Believe it or not I've read quite a bit about the iCloud services, but the answers to these questions were far from clear.  Many thanks for the help.

    2)  iCloud only syncs email between .me/.mac addresses.  For other accounts like google, you set up the account in the mail app and if they're IMAP accounts, you can sync between the google server and any devices you have defined that account on.
I'm not absolutely sure about 1) since I haven't had to search going back years - I use MailSteward for that on the mac.  On my iPhone/iPad, when I go into a mailbox and the emails are not immediately available, it downloads them.  I suspect for a search, you need the emails downloaded.

Thanks for the clarification....(our crystal ball is broken).
You might want to take a look at an App like FileBrowser.
App Store - FileBrowser - Access files on remote computers
The experts in the iPad support area will probably have more ideas for you as well if you want to post over there.

  • How do i sync my icloud contacts with outlook for Mac 2011

I need to sync my icloud contacts with Outlook for Mac.  Help!

You can't, as Microsoft chose not to include the CardDAV protocol necessary to do so (even though they do in Microsoft Office).  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915.  To sync your iCloud contacts with your Mac you'll need to use the OS X Contacts (Address Book) app.

  • Why only 39 mbps with iOS devices?

I have an Airport Extreme which runs firmware version 7.4.2. When I got an iPad several months ago, I noticed that the AirPort Utility reported a transfer rate of only 39 mbps to it. Even if the iPad was only a foot away from the router. Macs connect with rates of up to 130 mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 300 mbps on the 5 GHz band. If I switch the router to G-only mode, all the devices connect at 54 mbps.
I have been unable to find out why this happens. Some other people on the iPad forums reported this too, but I could not find an answer.
Yesterday I got an Apple TV and it connects at a 39 mbps rate too. So now I suspect that the problem is with the AirPort and not the iPad. It does not seem to work properly with iOS devices. Does anyone know what causes this and if there is a fix for it?

I have a new Airport Extreme N that I got a few weeks ago and
I just did a check with my Ipod 3rd gen w/iOS4.1 and it is connected
at 54 Mbps, and my iMac which I am using at this moment
is at 300 Mbps and when my MacMini is up, it connects at 300 Mbps.
It seems that there may be an issue with your Airport or, there may be
alot of interference in the B/G bands where you are at.
Also note, that all my Airport settings are at default. I did not do
anything special except change the IP address assignment numbers.

  • Email settings DO NOT WORK WITH iOS Devices

Vz keeps sending these "important" instructions for email port settings, BUT they do not work with iOS devices--iPhones and iPads. Last go around with this I spent over 16 hours trying to reconcile until an Apple Expert discovered "special" instructions for iOS device settings. Get with the program, Verizon.

So what are the special instructions?

  • Looking for a good document on family syncing with iCloud and multiple iOS devices

We have recently migrated off of Android devices for the whole family except for a Kindle Fire HD for my daughter.  We all have an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch type device that we want to sync our family calendars/reminders/notes to.  Is there a good document on how to setup this family environment so that our notes/reminders/appointments are all in sync on each other's device. That way we all know what each other is doing. Do we each have to have a separate Apple ID or do we all share the same Apple ID to make this syncing work.  I think I get how to make this work between my PC, 2 - iPhones (work and personal) and iCloud Web.  Now how do I layer on my other family members into my calendar digital Cloud?  HELP ME PLEASE.  I HAVE A DIGITAL MESS.
Right now I have a personal Apple ID for my personal devices, new iPhone 6 Plus coming.  I have a separate Apple ID for my Work iPhone 4s.  My wife and kids have iPhone 5s.  Wife and son have an iPad.
Please tell me I don't have to go see Rush Limbaugh to figure out how to make all this work.
    Thanks,
    Bob

You could each have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs, and also share a "family" account for syncing a family calendar, notes and reminders.  That will allow you to maintain still keep your contacts, and other data and photo streams separated while having access to the shared the family data in the secondary account.  It also gives everyone their own free 5GB of storage for their backups, etc.  The shared family calendar, notes and reminders will appear alongside your other calendars, notes and reminders in the corresponding apps on your devices.  You'll just need to be sure to select the correct account within these apps when entering data to ensure it is added to either your personal or the shared family account.
To do this, create your primary accounts in the usual way, by going to Settings>iCloud and signing in with separate IDs and turn on the data sets you want to sync with iCloud.  Then create a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with a different ID and have everyone add this account to their devices as a shared family account.  You can sync mail, contacts, calendars, notes and reminders with the secondary account, although you may want to just turn on calendars, notes and reminders.
You can continue to share the same iTunes store ID on all devices if you wish.  It does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.  Also, each person should use their own ID (such as the primary iCloud ID) for iMessage and FaceTime, otherwise you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.
If you don't want to do all of this, and are primarily concerned about sharing your calendars, you can do that as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a8694.
Another option to consider is to look into the new Family Sharing feature of iOS 8 if all of your devices will support iOS 8: https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/.  The details on this haven't been released yet but should start to appear after it is released tomorrow.

  • HT204150 How can I update iCloud contacts with iPhone contacts? Is there any settings that I can add the contact to my iPhone and it automatically update iCloud contact?

    iOS Device: iPhone 3gs,
    iOS: 5

I am not able to do the steps that is mentioned about contact syncing off... Any help on getting little more detailed steps.
I want to sync up my MS Exchange contacts with iCloud contacts. Also I would like to then create Group in my contact list as I would like to then foward my mails to Group contacts directly.
For SMS, I am able to find several Apps which I have downloaded but for forwarding one email to few contacts as group is what I am not able to do.

  • With iCloud activated on iOS devices, how do I manage syncing with iTunes?

Guess it's time to take a class at the Apple Store (there's an app for that)
    Two Questions:
    Question 1
I have turned on iCloud in my iPad and iPhone5 for contacts, calendars, reminders, Safari, Passbook (iPhone only), and Find my iPhone/iPad.
I am not using iCloud for backups, email or photo stream because for many reasons I choose to avoid WiFi.In the iPhone User guide (page 57) it says, "if you use iCloud to store your contacts, calendars.....don't also sync them to your device using iTunes."
When I set up the devices in iTunes, i checked "Automatically sync contacts, calendrs, bnookmarks, notes and email."  Now I want to modify that setup.  However, if I simply plug in the devices to the computer I'm going to get an automatic sync and I understand that can unnecessarily duplicate data.
    How to resolve this?
Can I just turn OFF the iCloud features on each device, attach the device to the computer, and reconfigure iTunes to stop the auto-sync of the contacts, etc.?  Then after ejecting the device, I turn the iCloud features back ON?
    Question 2
I've been downloading apps, music, and books in iTunes and then syncing them to my devices.  How does this change with iCloud?
On each device I've gone into Settings-Store and activated Automatic downloads of Music, Apps, Books.
Now, when I go to my PC and log in to iTunes to order an app, book, music, do I still have to attach each device to the computer in order to obtain the downloads?
What about apps I obtain directly from a device?

For your first issue, without connecting your iPad open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences and on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  This will disable automatic syncing when you connect your iPad, allowing you to change your settings without syncing.  Next, connect your iPad, click on the name of your iPad on the left side of iTunes and to to the Info tab and uncheck the data you no longer want to sync with iTunes (such as contacts and calendars).  When done making you changes, click Apply at the bottom (this will sync your phone with the new settings).  If you prefer, you can then go back to iTunes preferences and re-enable automatic syncing.
You will continue to sync your iTunes media such as music and apps with iTunes as you did before.  These are not stored or synced with iCloud (although you can redownload media purchased from the iTuens and app stores in the future if you need to; however, this has nothing to do with your iCloud account).
If you have enabled automatic downloads for your Apple ID, when you purchase apps, music or books in iTunes using this Apple ID it will automatically be downloaded to your iPad.  If you purchase them on your iPad, they will be automatically added to your iTunes library when you sync your iPad.

  • IOS 8 find friends on same icloud account with multiple devices

This has been bugging me and I have not found a workable answer to it anytime I have searched. iOS seems to have broken a simple functionality of find my friends. I have 2 iPhones on my iCloud account, in iOS 7 it was simple to share the location in find friends, that is now broken. I have read the directions about going to >settings.iCloud>share my location on the device and choosing what device to share the location from, that is simple, the problem is that it sets that as the device to share the location on for ALL the devices on the account. How can I get the old individual control over the devices that has been lost? This seems like it should be a simple "Apple, it just works" feature that is now convoluted.

Ok, figured it out myself. My first problem was that for some reason my phone hadn't activated properly with iMessage / FaceTime (my phone number was unchecked in the You can be reached by FaceTime At section in FaceTime settings). That required switching off FaceTime and iMessage and switching them back on again after a short wait so that they could activate properly, which they did.
Once that was done, my FaceTime settings (on my iPhone) had a new option: iPhone Mobile Calls:
My wife's phone also has that setting. Choosing which phone is used is just a question of only having this setting enabled on one phone at a time. I assume (all though I haven't tried it) that if both phones are enabled in this way, FaceTime on iPad or Mac gives you the choice of which phone/number to use. It wasn't giving me a choice earlier because there was only one phone enabled.

  • HT5927 Using apple configurator with supervised devises, enabling iCloud/ find my iOS device (after being supervised), backing up that supervised / find my iPhone enabled image, --issue; unable to apply back up to any iOS device (including the orign. devi

    Senario:
Need to manage 500 Enterprise iPads
    Requirements;
    1) Trackable via Find my iOS device  (we have 500 iPads and with the 100 device limit per iCloud account for Find my iOS device limit we have 5+ iCloud accounts).
    2) Individually named iPads for locating and sending commands to wipe, lost mode, etc.. on map per Find my iOS device (we uniquely name them in Apple Configurator either by using the "sequensetially numbering feature", or by creating individual back ups (yes, 450) with the name specified in the image).
    3) Find my iOS device feature enabled in base Prepared or Supervised image (using one of our 5+ iCloud accounts) (image can be created during prepared stage, or in supervised stage) - tried both and have the same issue - which I am getting to...
    4) VPP codes for paid apps (all VPP codes purchased with generic account which is the Apple Admin account for VPP purchases). Apple Configurator is set up under a different/ unique Apple account (i.e. not VPP admin account) and not logged into iTunes for any purchases/ services).
    Issue: Can not do any following senarios;
    A)
         1) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Prepare stage (added during preparing stage)
         2) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Supervised stage (added after supervising, and then backing up that supervised and iOS Find my iOS device enabled)
    B) 1) Apply master image to any Supervised iPad (under senario step A) or senario step B)), including the (Supervised or/ Prepared iPad that was used to create the maset iOS 7 image
Result = fail with Apple generic code "4" ; This is obviously due to Find my iOS device feature enabled during image capture.
According to Apple (see Apple Config. Help) the 'Activation lock' (new feature in iOS 7) will not be enabled on a supervised device when an iCloud account with "Find my iDevice" is enabled. Their "help files" seem to imply after the device is Supervised, and a person (presumably and end user) adds thier own iCloud account with Find my iOS device enabled the activation lock is not enabled and erasing/ reconfiguring with Apple Configurator will not cause reimaging probhlems such as requiring the end user's credentials to reconfigure the device using Apple Configurator (i.e. you won't need the end user's credentials).
Needed: To be able to configure Supervised iPads with iCloud account (Enterprised owned iCloud account) configured on the basse image, which has Find my iOS device enabled, and to be able to apply that base image to all Enterprise iPads without generic apple error code 4 issue.

    Hi all
I am trying to replicate these steps in my environment but I am having trouble getting an iCloud backup restored to a supervised device. Can someone clarify the steps? The parts I am unsure on are:
    1) Do you Prepare in Configurator with all the institution owned apps? Or do you install them after restoring the iCloud backup?
    2) After entering the personal AppleID to restore the iCloud backup, the setup wizard prompts for the Institution/Configurator AppleID, there is an option to 'Skip Now'. Do you enter in the password for the institution account? or do you skip that step?
    3) What exactly is on the screen in the 'mini setup assistant' after the restore when you Refresh with Configurator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
