HT204150 updating contacts on Iphone

My contacts on Iphone are not updated via Icloud to my mac book. I must have a setting wrong?

In Apple's Contact program it alows you to seperate your contact into 'groups,' ie: doctor, family, etc.. That's what I'd like to sync.
Don't know if that is the same as a distribution list.

    Can anyone help with this?
Deleted duplicate contacts from icloud and want to sync updated contacts to iphone and ipad?  Did it on icloud cause have duplicates on ipad and iphone also

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there.  If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device.  If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts.  Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done.  See if the duplicates are still there.

  • I don't have icloud on my mac, how can I update contacts onto iphone

I don't have icloud on my mac, how can I update contacts onto iphone, that does have icloud?

If your contacts are correct and up-to-date on the Mac, check out the basic syncing article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
just go to the 'info' tab after selecting the device in iTunes and sync from there.
    Good luck

  • Update contacts on Iphone or Mac?

Do I update contact information on my Iphone or mac?

You can do either. Contacts updated on your phone will automatically be updated in your Address Book, and vice versa. If you are using iCloud, changes you make to contacts on one device will sync to the other devices.

  • How can I update contacts in iphone, without downloading email addy's?

Is there a way for me to update my contacts on my iphone, without downloading a bunch of emails from my computer that I will never use through my phone?
    Thanks for any info!

Do you mean, can you use the Contacts App without the e-mail App downloading e-mails at the same time?

Hi Winston, Thank for the reply. Sorry about the delay in getting back. Yes I'v signed into icloud and then then I try using iTunes to sync  it keeps telling me I have to subscribe to this service. But I already have paid the €25. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

  • New/Updated contacts on iPhone 4 not syncing to iMac Address Book

    Greetings,
    My problem:
When syncing my iPhone 4 with iTunes 10, iTunes will sync contacts FROM my iMac to the iPhone. It will not sync new or changed contacts from the iPhone TO my iMac (no two-way syncing).
    Further background:
I recently had Apple replace my hard drive and restored from a Time Machine backup. Everything is working properly except this.
    What I'm using:
    * iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.1 (latest)
    * iMac 2.4 GHz Intel running OS X 10.5.8
    * iTunes 10.1 (54)
    Example:
If I create a new contact on my iMac, it syncs with the iPhone as expected.
On the iPhone, If I edit the contact originally created on the iMac and re-sync, the changes do NOT sync back to my iMac.
If I create a new contact on my iPhone, it does not sync with Address Book.
What I've tried so far that has not worked:
1.) Unchecked and re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts" in iTunes (one-way syncing works fine)
2.) Used the "Replace information on this iPhone" for Contacts within iTunes (contacts from iMac overwrite iPhone as expected)
3.) I had a trial MobileMe subscription that I cancelled months ago.
Went into the iPhone > Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > deleted the MobileMe account, keeping existing data on my iPhone.
4.) Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
    (One-way sync works fine)
5.) Deleted all Address Book entries
    * Unchecked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Went to /users/[username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, deleted AddressBook-v22.abcddb and /Images
    * Went to iSync app > Preferences > Reset Sync History
    * Verified new addressbook and /Images folder were created
    * Re-checked "Sync Address Book Contacts"
    * Performed another sync using iTunes
Can anyone offer some suggestions? I have my address book backed up, but I'd really like to be able to perform a two-way sync from my iPhone to my iMac's Address Book.
    Thanks,
    Rob

No need for apologies!  Yes, it was checked.  Looks like I have solved the problem now and it was something very basic - in the preferences of Contacts on the iMac.  Looks like it's all synced now.  Thanks for replying!

  • ITunes 10.1 now updated, trying to update contacts on iphone 3

Hi, I have a friend who has a Powerbook G4 12" and an iphone 3. There are no contacts on the Powerbook, but all the contacts on the iphone.
The iphone is currently synced to a PC and they want the contacts on the phone to be transferred to the Powerbook.
How do I transfer all the contacts on the phone onto the powerbook, without deleting them from the phone? (ie how do I back them up/ensure they are not erased accidentally)
    Many thanks,
    Ian

  • HT204150 Restoring Contacts on iPhone

While editing a contact on my iPhone, every contact disappeared except for my personal contact information.  What happened and how do I restore?  My contacts on iCloud mirror my iPhone - only my personal infomation is showing.
    Help!

Calling Apple support is not going to get them back, unless you have a backup of the phone that you can restore to, then you can restore to that. They would tell you the same thing. They don't have any way to restore your contacts. Were you backing the contacts up elsewhere? What made you believe they would have been in iCloud? Is iCloud how you backup your phone? Do you sync the phone to the computer via iTunes? If so, do you sync your contacts to a supported application on the computer? Are the contacts you see in iCloud any of the ones that you had on your phone, or are they just the ones on your husband's phone?

  • MobileMe syncing my updated contacts to iphone problems.

Ok long story short I upgraded my 1st gen iphone to the 2.0 software and opened a MobileMe acct so I could take advantage of the syncing features. Namely I run Vista Home Premium and use Safari for MobileMe and some websites. Other than that my computer is new so after I setup the MobileMe acct on my home computer I then set it up on my iphone and bam it worked great. All my contacts appeared on my homePc as they do on my iphone. So then I decided to categorize my contacts. So on my home pc I made a family, friends , coworkers, tabs and dragged the contacts into the correct groups. Then I synced my info and the groups tabs appeared on my iphone under the all contacts . But then when I opened the separate tabs on my iphone there is nothing in them the only All contacts has the info. So how do I get the contacts to filter into the correct groups on my Iphone? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to Apple Discussions -- sorry that you are having problems.
After much of the same frustrations you are having, I found some things that worked for me --
all of my Mail, Contacts, and Calendars are now syncing perfectly:
Mail -- delivered mail from 16 hours ago that had been 'lost' including my test messages
Contacts -- finally refreshed from the cloud and returned all data and notes fully intact
iCal -- finally refreshed with proper calendar colors, notations and events fully intact.
What I did to get MobileMe happy --
*Before doing anything* -- EXPORT backup copies of your Contacts and iCal in safe place -- in case.
In Applications>iSync>Preferences I reset the SYNC HISTORY
On iPhone: I manually deleted all email accounts in Settings [ mail not lost ]
On Computer: Launched System Preferences>MobileMe and under 'advanced' replaced all data on cloud. Be sure that sync is set to AUTOMATIC only. Otherwise push cannot occur.
On computer: Launched iTunes and FORCE SYNC'd all data [ mail accounts, iCal, Contacts ] to the iPhone
On iPhone: Checked settings under Mail/Calendar/Etc for MobileMe and ENABLED PUSH for selected items. 'OK' warning that all existing items will be replaced down from cloud. Then PATIENCE. It took almost an hour for everything to download and 'catch up', the spinner in wireless or Edge may not spin, or spin intermittently -- IGNORE THE SPINNER, it does not necessarily indicate syncing is happening or not.
Everything is now in perfect sync in all directions.
Please let me know if this helps -- and importantly, if it doesn't -- so we can find a solution that works for you.
    Regards, Michael

  • How to delete contacts from iPhone and update changes to PC after synch?

I spend a lot of time deleting old/unwanted/duplicated contacts on iPhone. Then I synch with PC through iTunes and I get two options: 1. MERGE or 2. Replace contacts on iPhone with PC information. If I click MERGE then all those contacts I deleted come back to my iPhone. MERGE seems to be a merely 'collapse' information feature...whether is from PC to iPhone or viceversa.
Obviously I don't want to replace my iPhone contacts with those in PC, because then I will loose all those pictures I took to my contacts...also, all the time spent assigning pictures to contacts will go to trash can.
This is kind of irritating...am I the only one having this problem? Active Synch for SmartPhones or Pocket PC nailed this down beautifully (it knows where the latest/most updated information happened and keeps that one).
    Help please.

Thank you for trying to help.
I don't want to replace the information on my iPhone because in my iPhone where i have the most updated information (pictures assigned to contacts and deleted duplicated/unwanted contacts)...I would like to replace the contacts on my PC instead.
After doing what you are suggesting will I be able to replace information on my PC? Is this what you mean?
    Thank you.

  • I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago avaiable.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore which i assume will literally delete any new contacts added...?

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable.  I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore?  The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings.  They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with.  Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts.  This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...?  Any help here would be greatly apprecaited.  I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • I recently updated my new iPhone by plugging it in to my laptop. However, it erased all of the texts, contacts and pictures associated with my phone prior to the update. How do I get that information back?

I owned an iPhone 4s a year ago before I unfortunately lost it. I have since then bought the iPhone 5 but had not plugged it in to my computer yet to download any music. I plugged in my iPhone today to my laptop and my iTunes store stated that it registered that it was a new iPhone and asked if I wanted to restore or update my new iPhone with the information that was backed up on my old one. I chose yes, that I did want to restore the old information in to my new iPhone. However, now that I did that, my new iPhone does not have any of the contacts, texts or pictures that I had already on my new iPhone.
I desperately want my information back that was lost on my new iPhone when I updated the phone. Is there any way to get those pictures and information back? I logged in to my iCloud account and it still did not help get my pictures, contacts or texts back.

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-20 20:40:48.
Disabled firewall, spy sweeper, virus scanner
    start>run>cmd> typed "netsh winsock reset"
    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.

  • How do i get my contacts back from io5 update on my iphone 4

how do i get my contacts back from io5 update on my iphone 4

Although contacts are included with the iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer and/or over the air with an email account that supports it, and there are several that do which are free.
Not a good idea to depend on the iPhone or any cell phone alone for contacts which can be lost or stolen or damaged beyond repair. If the contacts are available elsewhere as designed and intended, it doesn't matter if there is a problem with your iPhone's backup in regards to this data.
