HT204204 I want iOS 7.1.1 back

I finally opted to allow an iOS update on my iPad 3/64/wifi, and regret it,
i was on 7.1.1 now 8.1.2.
too many weird things happening now, clearly a result of the change. Examples:
-pinch app to close fail
-using Mercury randomly tries to load App Store for YouTube. Huh?
-lock screen won't unlock
-Random app crashes
-screen lag, especially returning to home screen
happy to to try reloading an earlier version of iOS, I then learn this path is blocked. Why?
This is is taking built in obsolescence to a new level, with the manufacturer effectively degrading the performance of something that was just fine.
Seriously, whats the chance of being able to reload earlier iOS again, soon?
I also wonder how this situation stands in terms of sale of goods etc, as it is not me, but the manufacturer who has adversely affected my user experience.

Kurt, thanks for the response but I'm far from happy with this situation. I understand I cannot expect to receive an official Apple response nor solution here. In fact as time progresses I am becoming increasingly dismayed at Apple's so called support model.
The bit I cannot understand is quite simple:
-My device worked perfectly prior to the update
-Apple pushed that update to my device, giving the impression it is fully tested and fully stable. It isn't.
-Some of the symptoms I've listed happen within minutes of a cold start after the device has been sat on charge all night, so having to embark on the reset process within minutes of that is frankly, ludicrous
-Now I've been looking into the issue, I understand if I'd jumped to 8.n a few months ago and found it was not to my liking, I could have reverted to 7.1.1 by downloading a copy and installing via iTunes. Problem solved, simple.
-But the fact that Apple have had time to either:
     -release a fix that undoes the damage by 8.1.2
     -make owners aware of the issues 8.1.2 causes, therefore allowing for choice
     -also blocked the process to allow reversion to an earlier iOS
     -or at the very least, acknowledge these problems and set some expectations for a fix, along with an apology
...and they've done none of those things is extremely poor, to the point of arrogance. It is exactly this attitude that prevented me from moving to Apple for many years, and now I have my first iPad, boy do I regret spending good money on an almost top spec device, to then have it effectively sabotaged by the manufacturer.
What I would appreciate from any responses is exactly where to go directly to in the strange world of Apple, to get this resolved.

    Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service like Gmail, iCloud, or an Exchange server.

    The youTube App is gone because Apple's license to use it has expired.
    YouTube is still accessible on the iPad via Safari (or any other browser) at http://m.youtube.com/
    Sign in at this site and your favorites, etc. will still be present. Save the site icon to the iPad Home screen and you will have a replacement for the youTube App.
    There is also an iPhone youTube App in the App Store which works on the iPad as well as the Jasmine App.

    - If you update via wif (you already have iOS 5, nothing will be lost unless there is a glitch. Some users have them
    - If you update via iTunes/USB, all your synced media like apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since the backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media.
    - I would also backup  everything to a location besides your computer since things happen sometimes.

    So, after it charged and was still plugged in, I deleted the Exchange account and then reset it holding down the sleep wake buttons until the apple logo appeared. I also changed the limit on my emails to 3 days instead of 1 week.  It turned on, so I turned it off and let it charge overnight.  This morning, it stayed on for 3 whole hours and then shut itself off again.  I had to try 5 times to get it to come back on.  Now, a message appeared that Exchange cannot verify a server, I can't see the full name of the server anymore, but it is *.hotmail.com GlobalSign Root CA from Microsoft. So I'm selecting Accept to see what happens.  I'm very discouraged, I need my phone to be reliable for my work.  It was reliable for 11 months without one problem, and now since I downloaded iOS 7, it hasn't been on for one full day since.

    One of my first ever flip phones had a wonderful function where you could choose a checkbox next to received messages to make them appear read or unread. This was very convenient for messages which you read, but don't have time to reply to immediately, and want to remember to come back to later.
    In contrast, the latest, greatest iPhone not only does not have this rudimentary message management function, but it goes one step further in the wrong direction. If there is just one received, unread message, and you click on the messages icon, the new message will automatically be opened. It is opened irrespective of whether you have time to read it right away, irrespective of if you simply wanted to compose a new message or go back to another already read message. It just opens the new one, and then you are in a position where you have to read it and respond to it right there, or risk forgetting about it and failing to reply to it altogether. I sometimes receive a lot of messages over a period of a few hours, so it is very easy to lose track of these half-read messages in the mayhem. I have missed countless messages because of this problem. Incidentally, if there is more than one received message, then the application doesn't automatically open any of them, which is much better, because you can at least choose when you want to open one of the unread messages. But ideally, you should be able to go through your list of received messages and check or uncheck them as read or unread at any time, so that you can easily find messages that still need to be replied to, or reconsidered.
    Does anybody have a solution to this problem? It strikes me as a simple data management solution that should be, but is not an option in the basic functionality of the app. Frustrating!

    Is this an IMAP account?
    If so, delete the messages in Mail from all folders and quit Mail.
    Go the the website and clear the messages from all folders there.
    Reopen Mail and verify the messages have been deleted for all folders.

    What version of iTunes are you using?  The error you references seems to be connected with iTunes 9.0.4.  That version of iTunes is not compatible with iOS 6. You need to update to the current version of iTunes.

    YMMV:  You have been warned that some are successful,  others apparently are not.  I approached it very methodically and ended up with a successful downgrade.  I offer this only to those that are stuck, and for work reasons need their phone to work,  don't want to keep trouble shooting and re-installing IOS8.
    I used an official Apple supplied copy of the 7.1.2 ipsw and would not do otherwise.
    Below is best explanation I found.  Keep in mind you cannot restore from an IOS8.0 backup if you are successful going back to 7.1.2.  In other words,  any text messages / photo messages, data,  photo's and videos that you haven't put up onto the icloud need to be saved somewhere if you want access to them after downgrade.  I also hope you have a good backup of your old 7.1.2 IOS prior to your move to 8.0.
    If you don't have an old 7.1.2 pre IOS8  backup stop now.

  • IOS 5 ipad not backing up to icloud

    I have given a friend a number of my older Apple devices that he likes to use with older IOS. Before the start of October, all of his devices were backing up to icloud with no problem. Suddenly, the 3 devices(iphone, ipad 1, and ipad 2) stopped backing up to icloud, but his iphone with IOS 6 is still backing up to icloud. I doubt there are many people out there still using IOS 5, but has anyone else experienced this problem? My feeling is that Apple is not supporting icloud backup for IOS 5 devices due to the fact his IOS 6 phone is working fine.
    We have tried a number of fixes. We have removed the icloud account from his phone, tried using another icloud account, etc. We have deleted the backup of the ipad 1. Nothing has worked. The same error appear about 30 seconds after attempting an icloud backup. It says something to the effect of "an error has occurred. The icloud backup did not complete."
    We don't want to erase one of the devices and go back to factory settings. My friend likes using IOS 5 and does not want to update the phones. Any ideas/solutions? Thanks in advance for the help.

    You can try this:
    Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
    Download the app My Contacts Backup.  Use this to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from the other accounts/groups) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
    Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
    Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud.
    Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap each of your accounts (Google, exchange, etc.) and turn off contacts syncing with these other accounts.
    Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other groups back to your device and to iCloud.
    (I'm not sure if this works with Facebook contacts or not.)

    iOS 7.1 update requires approximately 350MB's of storage space.
    Tap Settings > General > About > Available to see free storage space.
    Very important to never allow the free storage space to fall below at the very least 500MB's or your iPhone may not boot.
    You need to free up storage space on your iPhone for future updates as well.

    I damaged my iphone 5s and want to get my photos back. It was submerged in water for a good five minutes (and is now in rice) but I'm pretty sure it's dead.
    I really would like to get my photos back. I wasn't plugging in my iphone and backing up, I just assumed it did it automatically because about a week ago I had a message saying automatic backups were stopping as my icloud was full.
    My work ipad is running on ios8 (as of a few days ago!) but my iphone was on ios7 as I didnt have enough space to install the update. This means that my icloud is now icloud drive and I cannot view the stuff from my ios7 device without upgrading it to ios8. Trouble is, I cant upgrade it because it's in a rice bowl.

    Photos that are in the cloud stay there until they are removed by a device that has the right privileges. If your iPad is logged in with the same AppleID, then doesn't it show the photos from iCloud?
    You will only be on iCloud Drive if you expressly chose to upgrade.
