While doing a 'wipe and reload' as advised by a genius at Southampton Store, I managed to lose a whole raft of stuff because my back up to time capsule decided it didnt want to let me restore. I have recovered most of the stuff but seem to have lost iphoto. It was very important to me so I went online and bought it again.   I believe that as I had it already, that I should have been able to reload it without paying. Is there any way I can obtain a refund please?
Next question:   all the same applies to iWeb as well and I am trying to find it online, but the Apple site seems to have everything related to iWeb but not the actual program.
I really do need to recover these two programs.   I have iphoto (big relief) and just would like to get my pennies back, and I believe it is probably only my own lack of knowledge that is preventing me from finding iWeb to download. Previous advice gratefully received told me not to download from any other sites, so that is a rule I am following.

You did not initially purchase it. Pre-order in iTunes means that they are reserving the content for you at that price. The link below is an article on how pre-orders work with iTunes. When you pre- order an album in iTunes it just means its reserving it at that price, since the price may change. When the album is available and released, iTunes will automatically download it should you have enough store credit on the account or a valid credit card on the account.

When you rebuild your library to be able to use the new version of iPhoto if that is what you are talking about, it will simply rebuild it so that the new version can access the photos that you already have on your computer. This will not affect the files in a way to delete them. It simply just makes it so that the new version can be compatible and use the photos that you have on your computer.

Lightroom 1.3 Catalog froze while doing a task and has vanished

Can anyone shed some light on why my Lightroom catalog froze on my Macbook Pro while doing a task and then was no where to be found upon booting up?! It was a small catalog and I had not backed it up. I guess I will make sure to back up the catalog every day from now on. Is it possible for Lightroom to crash and to lose the entire catalog just like that?

Pretty much no. What task was underway? What's in your LR folder? Did you have no backup at all? BTW, you may find your catalog is where it should be, but possibly your LR Prefs file is florfenated. Delete it, then double click on the library file to launch.

Which is the Start-Up disk when doing an 'Erase and Install'?

Basically I am doing the 'Erase and Install' process now and It says in the Support online that you need to erase the Start-Up disk on the left side. But I do not know which is the start-up disk? Is it the Macintosh HD option? or Disk 1 (that is a external hard-drive with all my back-up files on). Please Help!

The start up disk is the one with the OSX. Usually it is the internal HDD, gray in color, and usually called Macintosh HD.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!

I had the same issue. Initially i thought i need to take it to apple for replacing the aux port. But luckily I was able to fix it by resetting the PRAM . To reset the PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
You can try this before you take to apple store. It may work if you are lucky. Good luck

Trouble doing an erase and install

ocquired the panther retail disks I need to do the erase and install. I have an ibook dual with os 2.8 in it. I do not know who the administrator is nor the password. I learned here that I could do an erase and install with the correct disks. I want to clean this baby out and call it my own, so to speak.
So...have the correct cd's however when I try to install disk 1 (restarting by holding "c" down) i I get asked for administrator name and password ( of which I don't have ) What am I doing wrong. Prior to getting the cd's which arrived today, I received lots of help from you all concerning how to clean this g3 out. Ibook has plenty of hard drive avail. ( 9 GB) and I maxed the ram to 640. HELP!

I've actually had this problem recently many times. If someone has set a login and password you can't boot from an installer disk.
Here's how I've gotten around it:
1)Hook the iBook to your iMac with a Firewire cable and boot the iBook into target mode. It will show up as an external drive and can be erased and reformated from the iMac. Once that is done you'll be able to boot the iBook from the CD assuming the drive is OK/bootable.
2) Pull the connector on the drive and boot into the CD reattaching the connector once you see the Apple. Hard to do since you have to have the iBook mostly apart.

I have downloaded Firefox 4.0 several times and after a short amount of time (days) it reverts back to 3.6.16. Why does it happen and how do I prevent it from happening again?

Thanks for the link. I just downgraded to the absolute shtfest that's 4.0. I WAS just fuming about how gawdawful this "new" version is, but after wasting so much time trying to sort thru all the issues caused by this 4.0 downgrade (past updates have always been seamless and troublefree - not so for this shtfest!) I'm flat-out RAGING!!! Fortunately the laptop still has 3.6.xx running - it's the LAST version of Firefox it will EVER see. I switched to Firefox so many years ago to get away from the insanity and frustration of Explorer - if this 4.0 crapshoot is the "future" of Firefox, then the incompetent nimrods responsible for it know where they can ram it. I'm starting the search for a new browser now - so long Firefox, it's been fantastic while it lasted, but you've gone and screwed the pooch, you've ruined a superb browser!
I'll attempt a reload of 3.6.xx on the desk machine, and if successful I'll run it till it drops, or I find a suitable replacement browser, but 4.0 won't be coming back - GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

IPhoto remove all iCloud pictures and reload form iCloud when I opened via Aperture

I have almost 100GB iCloud pictures & moves.
When I open a Aperture library via iPhoto, every time iPhoto remove all iCloud pictures, and let me enable iCloud photo again.
So I must still wait iPhoto finish download all iCloud pictures again.
It looks iPhoto's iCloud is different than Aperture iCloud even it is same library.
And enable iCloud picture in Aperture looks can't use iCloud information in iPhoto if you don't do re-enable in iPhoto,
Final each re-enable will remove all iCloud picture & download all again in local PC cache.
Is this I did something mistake?

Equium L - Lost power while doing a full recovery

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Equium L series.
I started doing a full recovery to the factory settings but unfortunately, I disconnected the wire to the AC and there was no battery either, so the computer shut down immediately. The product recovery dvd was inserted and was being used but the computer disconnected before I chose the type of recovery I wanted, so I assume nothing has been deleted in my hard drive.
The problem is that when I turn on the laptop now, it won't work. I just have a black screen and nothing else is happening. It seems like I have to dial a command or something like that. Could anybody help? I actually have some files on the hard drive that I would like to save before completing a full recovery to factory settings with the DVD. How can I get my laptop launching windows xp again?

Its good news that you are able to start the unit and that the HDD is recognized in BIOS.
This means that everything is OK with the HDD.
You want to rescue the files on the HDD hmm try to boot from bootable system disk like WinPE.

This should allow you to get access to the HDD and to the files stored on HDD.
Maybe then you should be able to move the files to external USB HDD or similar
Finally take your recover disk and then format the whole HDD and reinstall the OS again.

by reset option do you mean the DFU restore? worked for me, have you tried that?
if not - hold the lock and home button until the power down bar comes up. then hold the lock button for ten seconds - next continue to hold the lock button and press the home button for ten seconds - next release the lock button and hold the home button for 10 seconds. this should be done with the phone tethered. If done right and your itunes is configured as such, the phone will reload the drivers and start up itunes, and then prompt for a restore/update.

If I configured for normal mapping then it is working fine(Deleting existing records and Inserting new record). Whenever I am using multi mapping then I am getting following error in the receiver JDBC communication channel u201CError while parsing or executing XML-SQL document: Error processing request in sax parser: No 'action' attribute found in XML document (attribute "action" missing or wrong XML structure)u201D . Can you please tell me what might be the problem.

It appears that the inbound payload (the one that is going from XI to the JDBC adapter) does not have the requiered tag to specify which SQL action to execute in the receiver system. Maybe the multimapping is not creating the desired output message format.
