  • Does the ipod touch 4th gen's screen have IPS like the iphone 4's?

So I heard somewhere that the ipod touch 4g's screen does NOT have IPS.
For those who don't know what IPS is, this is apples description of it:
"The iPhone 4 Retina display uses technology called IPS (in-plane switching) — the same technology used in the Apple LED Cinema Display and iPad — to achieve a wider viewing angle than on typical LCDs. Which means you can hold iPhone 4 almost any way you want and still get a brilliant picture. That’s perfect when you’re sharing photos with a friend or moving your iPhone around while playing a driving or flying game. In addition, the Retina display offers four times the contrast ratio of previous models, so whites are brighter, blacks are darker, and everything is more beautiful."
Is this true? Because I also heard that the two main things people wanted from the ipod touch were the camera and the retina display. And those are the only two things that seemed to get cheaply upgraded. Does anybody know if the ipod touch 4g has IPS?

No need to double post! It has been said by Engadget that it is TN, but Apple has not to my knowledge released the specs. Only difference between TN and IPS is the viewing angle. A few hands on reviews that I seen said there was no distinguishable differences between their iPhone 4's and the iPod Touch 4 with the exception of the viewing angle.
I am amazed at how people will latch on to this stuff and make an issue about it, yet have never actually seen the freaking thing! LOL Just like no one has seen photos taking with the camera.
The iPod Touch 4 IS what it IS, folks will either buy it or not. I am booking that a lot that say they aren't going to buy it do anyway and of course this thing is going to be a big seller regardless of all these supposed poor upgrades.

  • My Ipod Touch Was dropped and screen is broken. How can I get It Fixed? I cannot Unlock the Ipod Touch, all I can do is play Music and Change Songs.

I Dropped My Ipod Gen 4 on a Granite Floor and it Spider webbed. Now all I can do is Play songs and change songs from the lock screen. I cannot unlock the Ipod or do anything else. Is there any way for me to get it fixed Cheap???

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Does the ipod touch come with a screen protector in place?

My home button is not working.  It seems like its stuck pressed down.  I took off the screen protector that I put on it but it looks like there is another one on there.  Does anyone know if it comes with one?  Does anyone know how to fix the Home button.  I am using Assistive touch but want the Home button to work.

That is just a protective sheet to prevent dust and other things from getting on the screen before you first use it. It is not intended to remain on the screen as a thir-part screen protector.

  • I have the IPOD Touch Generation 3.  I can no longer sync songs from itunes.  They said it is an Apple issue not Itunes since they are downloaded.  How can I syn the new songs??

I have been given to itunes numerous times by Apple. ITUNES have referred me back to Apple as I may not have the current software on my IPOD TOUCH, model MC086LL.  I have purchased/downloaded songs, but they will not sync to my IPOD.  ITUNES again said this is an issue with the IPOD TOUCH software not them.   Does anyone know how I can get this resolved??

Carolyn Samit, what are yo saying? He say he has a MC086LL at iOS 4,2. That is a 2G iPod. The software update comes with iOS 5 and the 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • IPod touch keeps taking screen shots

Is there a way to shut off the screen shot feature? My touch is continually taking screen shots - this happens when I'm touching it and when it's sitting in a stationary position. I have removed the cover to eliminate the chance that the power button and menu button are being pushed at the same time. Wondering if I have a faulty touch? Touch also has trouble starting up - have to press the power button at least three times before screen turns on.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Sadly, I was suspecting the actual *application procedure* may have created the problem and not the film itself. Perhaps some of the application fluid got into the crack near the Home button and gummed it up. I don't know what you could do to fix that either.

  • How to play FM on the Ipod Touch

I would like to play FM on my new Ipod Touch. Every thing I have read says that out of the box this cannot be done. I also read to play from the FM stations websites like on a PC however, all the stations that I have tried this require FLASH to be installed. It doesn't appear that the Ipod Touch allows Flash to be installed.
So, how can I play my favorite FM stations on the Touch?

The iPod touch has no FM receiver functionality out of the box, so you cannot play over-the-air broadcasts without a third-party product such as the Griffin iFM. There are apps you can get that allow streaming of many radio stations when you have WiFi connectivity (though not all radio stations provide compatible streams). Flash cannot be installed on any iOS device, so you will not be able to listen to any station that provides their stream only via a Flash player.
    Regards.

  • IPhoto opens even when the iPod Touch is not connected

I came across discussions on the iPod Touch and issues with iPhoto and am hoping that a solution can be found for my problem.
My 13 year old step-son visited over the Christmas/New Year and was plugging his iPod Touch into and out of our Mac laptop. In fact, we believe that he was doing the very same thing described in this reply regarding: "...the result of downloading a photo in Safari on the iPod (or taking a screen shot). The file is stored locally on the device, however when it is connected to your computer, iPhoto will open thinking that the iPod is a digital camera/memory card..."
We noticed that iPhoto and not iTunes opened whenever he plugged in the iPod Touch and told him not to download any pictures onto the Mac. We are not sure if iTunes ever opened. Well, he's gone now and every time we turn on the laptop now, iPhoto automatically opens up even though there are no devices connected to the laptop.
We are also experiencing video distortion of the computer screen when waking it from sleep. To get the computer to work again, we have to force shut down by holding down the power button. So, basically, we now cannot allow the computer to go to sleep! We believe that this has something to do with the iPod Touch having been used on our laptop.
During an entire day of trying to figure out what could be wrong with the computer (and we are not avid computer users!) we found that in the System Preferences - desktop and screen savers module, the entire iPhoto library is there along with the standard screen savers. We are not sure if this is supposed to be? We tried deleting the library of pictures in the screen savers module but were unsuccessful.
All was fine before and now we're having no end of troubles since the departure of our little one and his iPod Touch! Help!!!

    Ok, thanks so much

  • Is the iPod touch camera good enough to use Scanner Pro?

I'm thinking of downloading this app but I believe it's designed for the iPhone. Is the camera on the iPod touch good enough to scan documents? I mean, I don't expect a perfect scan but if I scan a regular sized page is it readable?

I do not recommend this. While the camera is perfectly capable to film HD movies, it strangely is crappy when it comes to Pictures.
The iPhone 4 has 5Megapixels , the iphone 4s has 8MP and the iPod touch ( current version is still the 4g model ) has 0,7MP.
For snapshots ok, but not for OCR/Scanner purposes.

  • What new features in 3.0 will not be available to the iPod Touch?

I fully expect that I will not have the capability to use voice control (not sure why, but what is the hardware limitation that does not allow this to work???) for my music, games that require > 128 MB of space to run, and to even think of video or camera... of course! However, is the processor completely different and will the iPod Touch be able to step up its processing speed to the 600 Mhz speed that it is more than capable of doing but has been downgraded to for battery sake? Will I be able to play the new games or will they be a distant wish for me? Also, what are the hardware enhancements in the new iPhone that the iPod Touch does not have?

It is actually not catching up. The speed of the iPod Touch 2G is 512 MHz, but the speed of the iPhone 3GS is 600 MHz. This is very good boost. On top of this, the graphics chips is a much more robust chip. The 3GS is not catching up, but surpassing significantly the speed of the iPod Touch 2G. Of course, the next the iPod Touch will probably be 600 MHz or more and will of course, have the new graphics chip. I did read that they are working on a dual core ARM processor. That would be a nice step up. I think the OS X could handle that quite nicely. Needless to say, I am sure Apple will always have something even better and bigger and stronger for their next release.

  • Is there no way to use the iPod Touch as a USB Flash drive?

All pervious versions of the iPod have had a checkbox option under Info for "Enable use as disk" which lets you transfer files to and from the iPod as if it were a USB Flash drive for general purpose storage. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131
This option is not available for iPod Touch. Does anyone know if Apple mentioned why? Does the iPhone support this option?
Apple seemed very concerned about taking applications away to distinguish the iPod Touch from the iPhone, this would be an example of a feature I think they should have included in the Touch regardless of its availability in the iPhone, I hope they change this in the future.

Does the iPhone support this option?
Not via Apple, but someone else has produced a way:

  • Should I get the iPod Touch 5g 16 or 32 gig?

So I've had the iPod Touch 4 for 3 years, it's only 8 gigs, there are scratches everywhere, the home button is broken, the front camera doesn't work, and it's really slow. But I've been trying to convince my self to wait until they (probably/most likely) release the 6g next year. But yesterday I dropped my iPod and the top left of the screen cracked, and now glass is coming out. So now I really want a new one for Christmas. But I'm not to sure if I should get the 16 or 32 gig, and knowing me, when they release the 6g(if they ever do) or I'll get a phone, I'll want it. So I'll probably only use the 5 for a year. The loop and the gigs difference from to 2 models really don't make a difference to me, but the back camera does because next summer I'm going out of country and I would like to take pictures with it. Which one do you think I should get?

Like everyone else has said-- forget the 16g no back camera just a front camera, great if you're a narcissist, not much use for taking pictures of the countryside. 32g will get you by, but you will fill that up in about a week, unless you plan to dump the pictures onto your computer and clear them off your iPod. Personally I have a 64g with approximate 32g free space. The used spaces is as follows approximate15g with photos and video, approximate 1900 songs using 7.6g (I use the 128 compression for the music otherwise it would take up at least 32g) and approximate 2.3g filled with apps and other. Hope this helps you with your decision. Good luck.

  • My ipod touch 2nd generation keeps taking screen shots by itself and turning off. This is a 'NEW' replacement and is less than 12 months old. Any ideas?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Will the iPod Touch 4th Gen have Siri?

Will the iPod Touch 4th Gen have Siri? I'm curious because it would be cool if every iOS device that's capable would have Siri. would'nt it be nice if they would add Siri and other more features in the next update on iOS 5? just a thought to ponder.

You are talking about Voice Control for music. It has been a feature for a while.  For the User Guide:
    Voice Control
Voice Control (iPod touch 3rd generation or later) lets you control music playback using voice
commands. To use Voice Control with iPod touch 3rd generation, you need Apple Earphones with
Remote and Mic, or a compatible accessory with a microphone.

Most of the time if seems to think I wanna play music though.

  • Anyone else having this problem with the iPod Touch 5g?

I just got the iPod Touch 5g tonight, and I love it, however I have this one little issue with it. Here's a picture of it. As you can see, the app I'm using isn't taking up the entire screen. Is anyone else having this problem? Is this something that needs to be fixed with an update for the app? Several of my apps do this.

The app isn't optimized for the larger screen. You just need to wait for them to update the app.
