Restarting MacBook Pro, Apple TV and WiFi router could solve the problem.

  • HT201343 My Mac book pro all of a sudden doesn't have the airplay icon and doesn't work with my Apple TV . Why  ?

My Mac book pro all of a sudden doesn't have the airplay icon and doesn't work with my Apple TV . Why  ?

The Airplay icon will not display if the OS is unable to locate any Airplay devices.
I would check that both devices are connected to the same network and maybe even power cycle the network devices - eg router etc
Maybe even try to connect both devices to another network like an iPhone personal Hotspot and see if that helps to isolate the problem

  • AirPlay icon just won't appear on iTunes - i've done everything!

I've just gotten a gen3 Apple TV. Have been trying to get it hooked up to my iPhone 5 and my MacBook Pro. I'm running the latest software on both devices. My photostream will appear on the Apple TV and so will my purchsed music but I can't get AirPlay to work. The icon simply doesn't show up in my iTunes. Separately, if I go to the apple TV computer page, it says I need to turn on homesharing on the same network on my computer, etc.
I have all of these devices on the same wifi network. I have them all logged in to the same icould.com account. I have done everything I can from this support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
And, now, I have absolutely no idea what to try. Help?

does it work on the iphone ?
have you tried to restart the iphone ? http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
    what router?
have you verified that that ports required by airplay are open http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629 (sometimes when people setup their network they have a bit of a zealot "the h@x0rs shall never get access so I'm locking this thing down!")
homesharing is enabled in itunes on the computer and can have set a password
homesharing is also required if the iphone have to access the sharedlib
if ones router don't bridge wired ethernet, wifi 2.4Ghz and wifi5Ghz and the devices are on seperate networks that is also an issue
updating firmware to latests or just restarting the router is also often a cure
sometimes my appletv don't showup as airtune speaker unless it's not in sleep mode and have navigated to music
you don't go into if it's just airplay or also sharedlib you have issues with
sharedlib mean the appletv access the media stored on the computer and shared in itunes sharedlib while the computer is turned on
airplay mean using the appletv as remote speaker for iphone or computer running itunes
airplay mirror mean using it as remote display as well

  • HT204291 Airplay icon disappeared!

I've tried every solution I've found online-but am still unable to get the airplay icon to appear on my iphone.  I used it months ago and it worked great....now it has disappeared.  HELP?

The Airplay icon appears only if it detects an AirPlay receiver on a shared WiFi network. Be sure your receiver and iPhone are sharing the same network and both WiFi and Bluetooth are turned on.

  • HT204291 AirPlay Icon won't show up on 2012 MacBook Pro...

I have a 13" Macbook Pro, Mid 2012, OSX, All Software up to date. Mac and Apple TV connected to same Wifi connection. But, the AirPlay Icon won't show up on my toolbar. I know it should work, as I have all the latest hardware. Totally frustrating. I tried using AirParrot, but the lagtime makes it not even worth the $10 I paid for it.1 Help!

  • HT204291 Airplay icon has disappeared from all devices!!

Airplay icon is not appearing on the control screen when I swipe up on ANY of our devices- iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and iPad 2. All are up to date with iOS 7.1 and have been rebooted. Apple TV and devices are all connected to same network and airplay is turned on. Apple TV has been restarted as well as the router and modem. Apple TV plays netflix without any problem so I would assume that the internet is working just fine with the Apple TV.   We use airplay frequently, so it is not a matter of not knowing how to use it!!

Airplay is over the local network, and that is likely where the issue lies. You say the IOS devices are up to date, have you ensured router is as well?
Have you checked the troubleshooting tips?

  • HT204291 Airplay icon does not show up in itunes after upgrade to 11.1.3.8

I upgraded my itunes to 11.1.3.8 and my airplay icon no longer shows up in itunes on my windows PC. it works from all of my other airplay devices ipad, iphone, and ipod.  I can't output to my apple tv from my PC. I have restarted my apple TV, my PC and itunes several times.

I'd try updating to version 11.1.5.5:

If you're already at version 11.1.5.5 (or the update didn't help with the recognition trouble), try the procedure in Cerbu's post:

  • HT204291 Airplay Icon lost from both my iPhone and Macbook Air

I've lost the Airplay Icon from both my iPhone and Macbook Air, so I assume there's something up with my AppleTV setup (connected via LAN ).
Airplay was working fine until recently.I've checked all settings and they seem ok. Anyone any further ideas?
All other functions work ok, streaming video off the net , playing iTunes (installed on Macbook Air) from AppleTV etc
I've just lost Airplay from 2 devices.
AppleTV was updated in the last few days, but the Icon was lost before that.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Doug

    OK. Solved !
A simple reboot of my modem/router (the fibre one from BT - BT Infinity) fixed this for
both my iPhone and Macbook Air.
I can also mirror my iPhone screen to the AppleTV now too.
(mirroring only worked from my Macbook Air before)
That must be a new feature. Excellent !
I guess I should have tried that before, but maybe this will help someone
    Happy Easter

  • HT204291 Airplay icon disappeared on my devices

You might try restarting your device, your router and your Apple TV.

  • HT204291 AirPlay icon disappeared. Have tried EVERYTHING. Help!

Hello all. We have had ATV for about three months. At first all worked fine and we were able to use AirPlay on our ipads and iphone 5. Then, about a month later, all AirPlay icons disappeared.
I understand this is a common problem. In the last few days we have tried rebooting our devices, the ATV, and our wi-fi router. Nothing has worked. I have also tried changing the language on my phone, and back again...to no effect.
All of our devices and the ATV are up to date with systems and updates.
We need help! Everything else works on the ATV. It's AirPlay which is the problem. It's switched on on the ATV, and all of our devices are on the same wi-fi.
    What's going on? HELP!

    There is no answer.
Remote App stopped working here also. ATV2 works one out of 10 times so forget that. Airplay played once and stopped yesterday. I can only reboot routers and devices and reset homesharing so many times. I give up. Getting a Roku.

  • HT204291 Airplay icon does not appear on iphone 5 to watch on Apple TV

No previous issues with my iphone 4s.  Can stream on Apple TV my itunes library but cannot watch videos or pictures from phone because the icon does not appear on my phone.

Thanks to @Winston Churchill - I found the answer.  Had to reset my router.  All is working again!

  • HT204291 The mirroring option doesn't appear under AirPlay on my iPad

I can Home Share with two computers and an iPod with my Apple TV for playing iTunes libraries and for Videos, but cannot get The Mirroring option to show up under AirPlay on my iOS devices (iPod Touch and iPad).

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • My ipad is now only showing a black screen with the apple icon and doesn't appear to be charging despite being on the AC adapter all day

My ipad had an icon on it after being on the charger all night that indicated it needed to be plugged into itunes.  I did this, and then it said it was going to do a restore, I confirmed I was ok and then left it on the computer all day and now the best I can do is get the apple icon on a blank screen.  It occassionally changes to show that it has no battery and then goes back to the apple icon.  How can I restore it?  Any other ideas?

    (A) Charge your battery
(B)Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    2. Connect USB cable to computer, leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad
