HT204291 Apple TV Connect and mirror problem

i need to connect and mirror my macbook pro , ipad , iphone to apple tv and i cant see the airplay icon on any of them .... all devices are updated and connected to the same wi-fi .... please help

Have you checked the troubleshooting guide? If the icon is not showing up then something on the network is likely blocking it.

  • Broadband connection and speed problems

    Hi,
On Wednesday morning my broadband connection went down and could not reconnect from 600am til 700pm. It did manage to get a connection to stay up at around 900pm, but since then the connection has dropped about four times a day.
I have checked my equipment, wiring etc, connected directly to the test socket, using  a new ADSL microfilter etc etc. I have also checked for known problems in my area and have done some quiet call tests(17070).
There are apparently no problems in my area, but a couple of the quiet call tests were crackly.
Since last night (Friday) at around 900pm the connection has managed to stay up but my connection speeds, both up and down are much much lower than they used to be.
Since Wednesday night I have performed some BT speedtests.
D/L Profile for my line is - 17.64 Mbps, but actual speed currently varies between around 8 and 11 Mbps.
U/L Profile for my line is - 0.83 Mbps, but speed currenty varies between 0.01 and 0.3 Mbps.
Before Wednesday, my download speeds were typically 16-17Mbps and upload speeds were typically 0.8Mbps.
    With very little variation.
I have included some stats from my BT HH3...
    Wednesday nights ADSL Line status,  after I managed to get a connection to stay up. below;
    ADSL Line Status
    Connection Information
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 0 days, 04:59:49
    Downstream: 18.65 Mbps
    Upstream: 443.9 Kbps
    ADSL Settings
    VPI/VCI: 0/38
    Type: PPPoA
    Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
    Latency type: Fast
    Noise margin (Down/Up): 4.9 dB / 26.4 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up): 11.1 dB / 5.3 dB
    Output power (Down/Up): 20.1 dBm / 12.9 dBm
    FEC Events (Down/Up): 0 / 0
    CRC Events (Down/Up): 758 / 36
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    HEC Events (Down/Up): 23957 / 6
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 300 / 4
    Current ADSL line status. After the line being up for 17 hours below;
    ADSL Line Status
    Connection Information
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 0 days, 17:17:36
    Downstream: 19.52 Mbps

    CRC Events (Down/Up): 133 / 36
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    HEC Events (Down/Up): 636 / 9
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 117 / 4
One thing that stands out is the Noise Margin of 4.9dB and now 3.2dB. I gather that these values are on the low side. Is 3.2dB acceptable?
I assume my line attenuation values are low as I live very close to my local exchange. I assume that these values are good.
There are some CRC HEC and Error Seconds values. I must admit that I dont fully understand these but I assume these are not good.
One other thing worth mentioning is that the phone cable to my property comes along my front wall over from a neighbouring property. Whilst checking this cable this morning in the daylight, I have noticed that someone, most probably my neighbour, has pulled the cable way from its fixing on the wall in order to put a fence post up on the wall.
The fence post has been there for a few months, with no apparent affect ro my phone and broadband, but I'm concerned that this could have damaged the cable, splitting the shielding or breaking a wire in the cable, or perhaps loosened the connectors to the juntion box it is connected to on the neighbours wall.
Could damage to the cable be the cause of my connection and speed problems?
Also, is it possible that my BTHH3 is faulty?
Any advice would be very welcome.
    Thanks
    Solved!

    A little more information.
I have noticed that on a number of occasions when making or receiving voice calls, the broadband connection completely drops. It doesnt happen on all calls, and doesnt seem to happen when just going 'offhook' and listening to a dialling tone.
There is a definite crackle and hiss on most of the voice calls. But only seems to be audible on the home phone.
After a little browsing, I came upon a logging program "Routerstatshub". When I leave this running it logs changes to ADSL stats.
Looking at the logs, I've noticed that when making voice calls, the upstream noise margin always seems to drop considerably, sometimes down to 0dB.
On some calls, both upstream and downstream noise margin drop to 0dB and the broadband connection drops.
I have also noticed that upstream line attenuation increases from around 5dB to around 28dB every hour or so. This doesnt appear to coincide with the voice calls.
CRC and HEC error increase dramatically at the same time as the noise margin changes. HEC goes up by 10s of thousands.
I'm still directly connected into the mastersocket with a new microfilter and no extension cable.
By the way, my connection speeds went down to an all time low yesterday , 1.7Mbps down.
I have now replaced my DECT phone with a corded phone and will make some more voice calls to see if that makes any difference.
Any ideas about what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated.

  • Puzzling connection and power problems

I spent a frustratingly large chunk of the holiday week struggling to interpret and respond to two serious problems with my computer setup and Internet connection on the Sunday after Christmas. See [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10811325] for background.
After returning the APC UPS to the store, I crossed my fingers, went to a different retailer and bought a [Monster MDP 900|http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=5016] basic surge protector (which actually cost more than the APC UPS although this store's discounting is comparable to Best Buy's).
I connected the G5, its display, and the G-drive to it and left everything else connected to the old APC surge protector that I had “borrowed” from another room after the Belkin did its apparent kamikaze deed. (Side note: The back of the Belkin says its "maximum load" is "15A 125VAC 80HZ 1875W." Since my G5's CPU alone can draw up to 450W according to [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24037], and there was a ton of other stuff connected, I guess I was pushing my luck? Although it did tolerate that load for a little over a year.)
Then, stubborn sort that I am, I reintroduced the old Linksys router. So far, so good. I used both the G5 and my G3 beige for many hours yesterday. No noticeable problems with Internet connection or anything else. And I had even fixed (I think) the G3's glitchy monitor connection when something triggered the memory of stashing a spare adapter that NEC had sent me eons ago. Bliss
This morning, I decided to try to re-establish communication between the G3 and the G5. That didn't go well, and in the process I wound up in the G5's network prefs panel and was aghast to see Ethernet 1 status (with a label noting that its IP address was "self-assigned") switching back and forth between "connected" and not-so-good statuses, including one that said the cable wasn't connected. This appeared to be the same problem I'd battled last Sunday--when the genius in my ISP's phone support, clearly never breaking a brain sweat, dismissed it as a router malfunction. Can't entirely blame him, though, because it did seem to go away when the router was cut out of the loop. (The G3's connection, I should note, did NOT seem to be similarly afflicted today, but I can't compare that aspect with last Sunday's episode, because the G3 wasn't in use then.) That was the day when, some hours later, the surge protector failed, so I assumed the impending failure had caused the router to malfunction, and that the load reduction from taking out the router had kept the surge protector going for a few more hours, though I was not 100% comfortable with that theory.
Back to today. I shut down, connected the cablemodem directly to the G5 instead of the router, reset the modem, powered up. No change, same syndrome.
After some fidding, including copying DNS server addresses from an old configuration that doesn't work any more, I established a new location that lit up, and it's behaved perfectly for the past couple of hours. No more warnings in prefs about a self-assigned IP address (which is a completely different series of numbers now).
So, it seems that the "flickering connection" and the failure of the surge protector several hours later last Sunday (long after the connection seemed to have been stabilized) really were completely unrelated, and that my old router was probably innocent in both cases. (I haven't yet screwed up the courage and energy to try reintegrating the router again.) At most, maybe all the on-offs of the cablemodem and router during my diagnostic session with phone support accelerated the surge protector's breakdown. Right? Am I missing anything here? Any tips, insights or similar experiences anyone can share?

    This. Is. Driving. Me. Nuts.
I put my router back online yesterday and ran both the G5 and the G3 beige for many hours with no apparent hiccups or other problems of any kind.
But this morning was another story. I used the G5 for an hour or so, then booted up the beige just to see if everything was still okay. I watched the Network Prefs panel as the beige was starting up. As I feared... the network status started cycling again on the G5. (The beige did connect and loaded a few pages quite snappily.) As in previous episodes, the status was changing every few seconds from "Connected" to "Cable not plugged in" to "Unable to determine status" or "No IP address" or some other error message.
I shut down the G3. The G5's network status changed one last time after the G3 had powered off, then remained steady.
I left it on, went out on some errands, and came back with some new Cat6 cables (Geek Squad brand from Best Buy, too bloody expensive, but it was either that or buy something I didn't really need at Amazon to get free shipping for the cables, and then wait, which I did not care to. I don't like the connectors, I have to say, but that's a side issue. At least I hope it is.)
I shut down, cabled, and went about trying to resuscitate my little LAN. No luck, no matter what I did. All kinds of trial and error not worth detailing IMO, except to say that the G5 seemed convinced that it was disconnected from Ethernet as long as it was plugged into the router (in either of two router ports I tried). I have given up on the router for now, but I still don't really believe it's the culprit.
I think I did try switching the cable to the second Ethernet port on the G5 at one point and it didn't help. I guess that was while I was still trying to make the router work. (My brain is getting fried...) Then I decided maybe that particular cable was bad. But before I decommissioned it, while it was connected directly to the cablemodem, I plugged it into Ethernet 2. And we were alive. I don't think I even had to reset anything.
I surfed for a while and then couldn't stand it any more--I had to shut down, switch it back to Ethernet 1 and see if I got a green. I did, but unlike before, we had the dreaded "self-assigned IP address" and the computer was offline. Oh, that again. I went into Network Diagnostics, which as usual directed me to restart the cablemodem. After that, it connected, but there was one last hiccup where it flashed "No IP address." Then the address changed to a 66 number, and it has been steady since, for at least an hour.
Something else that I haven't mentioned: My TV in the same room has been suffering from intermittent, very brief audio interruptions for quite some time. Two, three months I'd say. Maybe four. Now and then the video freezes, too. But strangely, the TV in the bedroom hardly does this, if at all. I suppose the cable splitter could have a partial or mixed malfunction though. I'm not sure of the relationship in time of those symptoms to my Internet problems, which I now suspect started a while back when my old static-IP configuration unaccountably stopped working and I reverted to the previous one.
Whether or not the TV symptoms are related, I'm really beginning to think this recurrent syndrome has nothing to do with my computers or my router. I think it's time for a house call from the cable company (including, maybe, a new cablemodem). Agree? Other ideas?
    Thanks...
Oh, but wait! Just now, I decided to try to log in to my router and see if there were any bad settings left over from that old configuration. I pulled up the cable that was attached to it, thinking I'd plug it into Ethernet 2... and Ethernet 1 went down. Now its network status says "Cable Unplugged" again. WTH?? I don't think the cable even touched anything as I drew it up. Again the router was NOT connected at this time to anything except power.
I hot-swapped the G5's cable back to its Ethernet 2 port, and now it's connected (but had a self-assigned IP again; restarting the cablemodem fixed that).
Maybe it isn't the cable company's problem after all... maybe the G5's Ethernet 1 port is tired and needs to be put out to pasture....
See why I say THIS. IS. DRIVING. ME. NUTS. ??? Help please...
UPDATE: We are live--via my router, connected to Ethernet 2. Starting to look like an intermittently sick port (Ethernet 1), as DaddyP suggested?

  • Apple TV 3 has mirroring problem with Yosemite

Just updated to Yosemite yesterday for my macbook pro retina 2013. At the same time, I bought an apple TV 3 for which I want to use my TV as an external monitor. Strangely, all iTunes movies streamed from my macbook work fine for the apple TV -- very smooth video. But when I switched on "mirror screen", the video has huge lag! That's very strange. Why apple TV handles well with iTunes movies but not the mirrored screen? Any solutions?

exact same problems here. Macbook Pro 2012 upgraded Yosemite and down goes support for Apple TV 3, " no user connected" .
worse: streaming SACD music from AUDIRVANA PLUS to Airport Express, optically connected to my HIFI, gone as well.
Is this an Itunes 12.01 issue? anyway the APP Audio Switcher brought back the music to my living room.
And i have a separate AUDIO AIRPLAY button now, which is a lot easier than the standard Apple setup.

  • Connectivity and Video Problems

I have a 5G 30GB iPod. I had no connectivity issues until I downloaded iTunes 7. After I downloaded iTunes 7 my iPod would shouw up in windows but not in iTunes. I followed the instructions about 1. plugging in the ipod 2. stop the ipod service 3. start up itunes. My iPod then showed up in iTunes. I tried to install the new apple update software (Version 1.2 I believe) and my iPod disconnected itself and the computer continued to search for the iPod which it had just ejected. I simply plugged in my ipod again and decided to not install the update. It sync'd up just fine updating my podcasts and music. As soon as it was done updating my ipod it seems to autoeject itself once more so I am not able to change any preferences. This was annoying, but didn't bother me too much. Recently I updated to iTunes 7.0.1, and I added a video which my friend had sent me to my iTunes library. I then connected my ipod doing everything that I normally do. iTunes removed all of my videos from my ipod and then updated my music and podcasts. Now I am stuck with no videos on my ipod. I can't change any preferences because my ipod will not remain connected to itunes. Has anyone else had a similar problem, and is there any known fixes?
      Windows XP

i am HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. EVER SINCE I SOWNLOADED THE NEW ITUNE THE IPOD HAS BEEN ACTING UP. IT SAID THAT MY IPOD IS CORRUPTED WHEN IT RY TO RESTORE IT, AN ERROR POPS UP. ALSO WHEN I CONNECT IT TO THE PC THE IPOD SHOWS A LOW BATTERY EVEN THOGH I CHARGED IT ALL DAY.

  • [SOLVED] Fluxbox won't work and mirror problem

Hello all, I recently tried to make the switch to Arch again from Ubuntu. Ran into some trouble though. Obviously I was using the 64 bit version. It installed just fine, but once I booted into it I couldn't use pacman to install anything or even refresh. After a bit of playing I found the file where the mirrors hide. The one I set in installation was uncommented as it should be but not working so up above I uncommented the same one (ibilio) and that fixed that. Is that a normal problem? Anyhow no biggie so I moved on. I go for straight Fluxbox. So I installed xorg and fluxbox. But for the life of me I can not get it to boot to fluxbox. Keeps going to twm. I tried everything in the fluxbox guide from the Arch wiki to get it going with no luck. Finally gave up and went back to Ubuntu. Now I used the 32 bit a time or two on an old computer and fluxbox worked fine. Here like I say startx would bring up twm. And startfluxbox (think thats the right command) would get a cannot connect to xserver error. Any ideas? I sure would love to use Arch. Sorry I can't be more precise on how it went but I no longer have it installed. If someone thinks they can help me with this though I would love to try again. Thanks.

Ah, sorry, I should have specified that you add it to your ~/.xinitrc file, and you will most likely have to make then edit that file (as I did) yourself.
    touch ~/.xinitrc
and then, with your text editor of choice add this line to that file
    exec startfluxbox
and save. If that still doesn't work let me know
You will always get kicked back to the command line, as X cannot find any login manager, and you had no user-specified fallback file that it would look for instead, so it fell back finally on the system-wide fallback, which is TWM.
So you have to rely on writing your own way to start x, which is the ~/.xinitrc file. Otherwise it will always find twm.
If you really don't want twm,  you can easily remove it (I don't have it installed at all) with a simple 'pacman -R xorg-twm'.

  • Printer connection and syncing problems

We can print from the MacBook, but not from the iPads. We are connected to the printers wireless connection but we can't seem to find the problem. Maybe it has to do with not having updated to iOS 5? My mom is kind of reluctant to lose all her games scores like what happened with me....maybe this is another problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Check the make and model of your printer against the list here:

  • MBA connection and restore problems

Right, so basically my MBA seems to drop the connection every 3 minutes or so. Well, not drop it, it remains connected, but it just stops transmitting data. Its really strange. Regardless of if im using mobile BB or if im using the wireless, it just stops transmitting data. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Im fairly sure its not hardware as it does the same if I use mobile BB and its not signal, as my Mobile BB has full signal and my wireless is wireless N.
So I thought it could be hardware, so I tried to restore it OTA, but when I select the restore disk in my imac (From my MBA) the World appears and spins, and then the machine has a kernal panic, so I managed to get hold of an external disk drive, and when i try to do it from there I just get a blue screen for 10 minutes, and then it starts up as normal,
This coupled with the connection problem is really doing my head in. All i want to do is for the bloody thing to stop dropping a connection so I can actually use it!
Anyone got any ideas how to get round my problems without having to send it to apple or buy extra pieces just to restore it?

    Elk;
    Thanks for the quick response. Here's what I've got;
Belkin 54g Router. Yes, the firmware is current, the other computers I've got connected are two Toshiba Satellites, and my son's MacBook Pro, no problems with any of them. The Toshiba's are running Windows Vista and Windows 7RC1 and the MacBook pro runs OSX 10.4.? No encryption and anywhere else I take the MBA I have the same issues.
History; Originally the MBA ran OSX 10.4 when received, updated to 10.5.6 I believe and that's when the problems began. Currently it has an 80G HD, 2 GB of ram, and 58GB of free space available.
I've tried everything I know, and a few things I've made up (ha) and while I'm the IT guy at work, 98% of my training and experience is Windows based so learning OSX has been fairly easy, with the exception of the wireless issue.
I'm open to about anything to sort out what the problem is, but from what I've read here, there are quite a few people with OSX 10.5 and better having the same issues. I'm simply hoping someone has sorted this out.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

  • Apple TV Airplay and Mirroring

I am unable to get any of my devices to work with my second or third generation Apple TV with airplay or mirroring. I have an IPAD 1 and 4, and also a laptop with ITunes that won't connect anymore since I moved.
    I have done the following:
I wasn't sure if my apple tv was broke, so I took it to the Apple retail store. He was able to mirror his IPAD and IPhone on my Apple TV, it turned out to be my remote, which now works with it.
All four devices have updated software.
All are on the same network.
All 4 devices are on the same Apple account, I only have one.
I've gotten pictures from the icloud to show up on screen.
On the IPad 4, I double clicked home and slid it to the right twice, no icon.
With my IPAD 1, I used to just play video and the airplay icon would come up, now nothing.
I've tried one suggestion, to change the language setting, nothing changed.
I have checked home sharing, everything is on.
I know I read about taking off the firewalls, but is that something that needs to be done with an IPad? I can see my lap top not working because of this, but IPads that have worked in the past.
I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.

You mentioned the issue started once you moved, it has something to do with how the network has been setup. Yes, things like firewall need to be looked at because something is blocking the connection.

  • Apple Mail send and receive problems, Network Solutions

    Hello Everyone,
I'm currently facing a problem with a company email account that we have with network solutions.
NSmail Pro (IMAP) that is configured with apple mail. Here are the settings that i have:
    Incoming mail: mail.(company.domain).com
    Port: 110
    SSL: No
    Outgoing mail: smtp.(company.domain).com
    Port: 2525
    SSL: No
    Auth: Password
Whenever i'm at the office, I can send and receive emails without any problems (Using mail app), but when i'm at home i can't receive emails nor send one.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the Mail application, cause i can access the email using the webmail on a browser without any problems (either at home or at the Office).
    Any thoughts from our experts?

I'm guessing that when you are at the office, you are probably accessing a company network and the company mail will only work with those settings on the company network. You may need to discuss this with your IT department at work to see if it need a different configuration for outside access.
The fact that it works at work and not at home indicates a that it surely an issue with the connection setup.
Assuming that you are accessing it through wi-Fi at both locations, do you have different wi-Fi connections set up on you Mac in Network Preferences, or is it the same wi-Fi connection used for both? In other words, do you have a specific wifi setup on your computer for connecting at the office?

  • Connection and SMS Problem with Peoples/China Moblie (HK) using  iPhone4s

I just signed up with Peoples/China Mobile (HK) service provider for apparently 2.5G service.
I face the following problems which the technical support of the service provider is unable to resolve and providing me any proper feedback:
    1) SMS / messaging not working.
    - Outgoing SMS all failed.
    - Incoming SMS no issue.
    2) Unstable and bad connection.
    - No service in MTR.
    - Upon coming out from the MTR station or location with no reception/elevator, the search for network is slow and service unattainable. The "No Service" sign on the top left screen remain as it is. You have to either restart the phone and force network search again. Very irritating and fustrating.
    - Network search subsequent to above incidents are very long (5 minutes at least)
    3) Regular service failure for basic phone calls
    - Very unstable throughout the days.
Even the basic phone calls and SMS is  far worse than my previous service plan. I cant even make/receive proper phone calls. SMS/messaging not working at all!!!!
So what is the root cause?
Iphone 4s glitch or bug? Should I send back to Apple?
    or
Problem lies with the Service provider's connection (peoples/china mobile) ? Incompatible phone set versus 2,5G service provider?
    Ah Huat
    Fustrated customer!!

Your issue is more than likely bandwidth related although there is a lot of variables that can cause issues. You can use the free Speed Test app to test your network speed using your iPhone when the problem arises. This could tell you which end the issue is at. It may be anything from older slower wifi routers, slow Internet connection, which your provider may throttle for certain uses, or network congestion in  your area especially if you use cable Internet.

Apple TV issue . . . when I first started using Mirroring between my Pro and my TV, there were no issues. Now when I play a video through mirroring, it hangs up/has a delay.  I have tried this on a number of videos and it is consistent.  Ideas?

    Have neve heard of airparrot.

  • Connectivity and Installation Problem in Developer suite 10g

Please help me solve this problem since I am beginner to Oracle 10g database and Developer suite 10g.
    1. I have loaded successfully Oracle 10g database on my server with windows OS 2003 having IIS option selected and configured as my Domain server.
    2. I have loaded Developer suite 10g complete in another PC with windows XP. I am able to connect to the database and also OC4J is started and Run form in test mode also works. Also I have developed some forms using developer suite and I am able to run the fmx runtime form in this computer.
3.Now my problem is I have a local LAN and at present there is no internet or web site for this company but they want to work in lan and all departments want to access the data from the server.(Later on when they get a website at that time they want to deploy the forms to the web)
4.Please tell me how and where I will store my fmx file. If I have to save it in the server then how will the clients access it.
    5. How to install the developer 10g runtime only in client PC's (OS windows xp) since there is no option in the CD to select the installation like previous releases like D2k.
    6. There is no middle tier in this case. Only One server as domain
    and client pcs.
    Please guide me,matter urgent.
    Thanks in advance

    Regarding this point -
    1.
Then you should be able, for testing purposes, to do the same from other Clients.
Then I have to install developer suite 10g in client pc's but the runtime option selection is not available in the CD. How to proceed?
    2.
For production environment, as already said, you should install some Application server. If you only need Forms and Reports you can install the standalone version Forms&Reports services, without infrastructure.
This means I have to install the standalone version Forms&Reports services in the same server where I have installed 10g database and this also being a domain server.
(We do not have sufficent computers where one can use it as application server). Hence only one server with OS windows 2003 and 5 computers with windows xp is available).
Please explain the steps to proceed .
    thank you

  • Skype connection and audio problems

    Hi everybody,
I successfully downloaded 2.5.0.85 Skype software for Mac.
Trying to connect to their echo123 robot to check audio settings was also successful but downloaded message was very jerky (about one word evry 10 words) and not understandable. Hi,
    Welcome to  Discussions
I use Skype (same version) sometimes my sound cuts in & out, I am not sure if that is what you mean by......
but downloaded message was very jerky (about one word evry 10 words) and not understandable.
I presume you are using headphones, a must have.
Regarding the crashing, go to Home/~Library/Preferences folder & find the com.skype.skype.plist file & move it to the trash.
If the crashing doesn't stop, you may have better luck with Skype 2.6 Beta,
http://share.skype.com/sites/mac/. See their help pages on the web-site,
it is a Skype issue, and you may get more help there.
    Good luck,
    Eme '~[)

  • Solution to ipod classic connection and sync problems in windows xp

Was having problems syncing and copying songs to my 80 GB classic on windows xp. Itunes would become unresponsive etc. Turns out these issues were related to a program called res.exe which is part of a usb mass storage toobox, which does not appear to be essential to windows.
In add/remove programs, I uninstalled "USB Mass Storage Toolbox", and my ipod classic now syncs as it should.
