Used airplay a while back with iPad mini mirrored to Apple TV with no problem, recently tried again and the icon is gone !!
Any thing to do with IOS update ?? I can't thank of any thing else.....Joseph

HT204291 cant get the airplay icon on my iphone 4.

I've tried all recommendations in troublshooting but still cant get the airplay icon on my iphone4, I can use the remote app, so its definately connected, any ideas?

Responses can only be as helpful as the details provided. What are you trying to setup an AirPlay connection to? Did you enable AirPlay on that device(s) and create an Id? Did you enter that id into your iPhone? Did you do any of the steps to setup AirPlay?
And the Remote app using HomeSharing which only connects to iTunes and iTunes connects to the other devices. It has nothing to do with AirPlay. So that does not really mean anything.

The airplay icon you are reffering to is for mirrorring your desktop. It is a functionality of Mountain Lion and it seems, based your profile, that you are still using Lion. Therefore, you will need to purchase and upgrade to 10.8 in order to get this function.
Be sure your iMac is really mid 2011 as it will be the oldest to support the mirrorring function. Apple TV 2 or later is also required.

I looked at that already. I've done everything it says: check to make sure wireless is working, make sure airplay is enabled, make sure device and apple tv are on the same network blah blah. The icon just isn't there. Unless I skipped a step. AirPlay works when I use it in the music app and in the video app, I jus can't get mirroring to work. If sounds like you updated to iOS 8.1.3 and now do not see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center. I would run through the troubleshooting and setup verification. It should get that rectified for you:

i just bought apple tv 3rd gen and for some reason idk y but my airplay icon isnt coming up on my tool bar i was wondering if anyone could tell me more about why its not or tell me who i can get it

You have OS X Lion, not Mountain Lion. You can do two things:
1. Make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion, so you will get the AirPlay icon on your Mac to use AirPlay Mirroring.
2. Keep OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
I recommend you to upgrade to Mountain Lion because you will get new features apart from AirPlay Mirroring for your Mac

I can longer find the airplay icon on my iPad when I double click the home icon. It worked fine and i used it for a couple of weeks to mirror with the Apple TV and then it mysteriously disappeared. Now when I double click and slide the icons at the bottom to far left, instead of finding airplay there is an extra music icon and a music control panel. If I open up the music app, there is an airplay icon top right next to volume control which works fine with mirroring the Apple TV, which suggests to me wi-if and networks are fine. I can only mirror music however. Any ideas anyone?

If you have Mail setup a a client for your Gmail account set iPhoto to use Mail. Then select one of Mail's stationary templates for photos and use it. May not be as good as the iPhoto templates but will be fancier than a plain email window.

A 2003 iMac cannot support Snow Leopard 10.6; you'd need an Intel processor and that cannot be retrofitted to your Mac. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say for your processor speed? What does it say about how much RAM you have?
If the processor is 1ghz or faster, you can run OS 10.5; otherwise, you are maxed out at 10.4.11.
Also, are you running any commercial ("pay for") anti-virus or security software? They are notorious for slowing most Macs to a fraction of their speed potential.
A too-full hard drive can drag down performance, especially if you don't have a lot of physical RAM installed. If you single-click your hard drive icon and then do command i, you'll see the disk usage. Looks like this:
The value for "Used" should be no more than about 90 percent of "Capacity." In the example image, that drive has about 34 percent of its space used and 66 percent free--more than enough. Please post what you see for your Capacity and Used numbers
There are a few more things we might check but this is a good start.
