HT204291 No picture on AirPlay. Only audio

I use a sony Bravia tv and apple tv and an iPad. I have a video playing on the iPad. I see the apple tv icon. I get the audio but no picture on the tv. The tv shows the apple tv menus while I listen to my video streaming. Any ideas?

Each app has to be enabled for airplay, that is up to the developer to do

what video are you trying to stream via airplay?
currently only video from youtube app or ipod app is supported.

if you use a hdmi to dvi converter then you only get picture and not audio because dvi don't carry audio same with vga

I'm having similar issues, if I try and play video via the iPad 2 Videos app I only get sound on the ATV2, video is played on the iPad 2. Maybe I'm missing something because I can get the same videos playing on the apple tv via the atv2 menus and if I use the apple remote app no problems as well. Maybe I'm missing something here?
Video/Audio works using safari YouTube and iPad YouTube also apple remote app. As far as I can make out it seems an issues using the iPod App which links into the iPad Videos App, same issue if I use the iPad Videos App.
BTW if I try and play shared video using the iPod app on my iPhone same problem. I'm wondering if there is an issue with iOS 4.3.2 update. Apple TV did not get the update ?

Atv2,atv3 iphone5 ipad2 airport extreme base station. NO video only audio.

I have an atv2 and atv3 on an AirPort Extreme base wifi network. All devices with latest software. I can play audio, show pictures, and play videos from iTunes (preview videos) on all devices. When I buy a video from iTunes, play the video and press the airplay button i only have audio and a small badge of the video in the bottom left corner but no video. Also no YouTube videos only audio. I have reset all devices and same results. Been battling this a while and would appreciate any help.

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.

Many from the Internet claim that iTunes encodes an AIFF file format into an Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) file format before sending signal to an Airport Express.
Is that true?
If so, would it still make sense for me to have AIFF files on my music server
or should I have ALAC files instead?

Yes. The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) works only with iTunes v4.6+ and is limited to music files that iTunes can read; ie, 16-bit data only. These data, though, can be in any file format that iTunes recognizes, from lossy MP3s at the low-quality end of the spectrum to Apple Lossless and lossless AIFF or WAV files at the high end. It is also important to note that the AX functions only at a 44.1kHz sample rate. When you play 32kHz or 48kHz data, iTunes sample-rate-converts the data in real time before sending it to the AX.
iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert audio files to Apple Lossless, and then, uses AirPlay to send them to the AX. In turn, the AX uses built-in software that converts the Apple Lossless to an Encoded Digital Audio format. From there, digital audio is sent to a optical transceiver to convert the electrical signal to an optical one before sending it to the innermost part of the audio port. For analog, the AX has a built-in DAC to convert the Encoded Digital Audio to Analog which is sent to the same audio port.

If you have audio files in both formats, I would elect just to keep the ALAC (.m4a) files on the music server.

When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

For some reason the plugin container is causing some wierd stuff. I didn't know you could have more than one instance of task manager open. while this bug occurred, I had 15 task managers open. So somehow this plugin container is doing soemthing funky with the windows system. I'm the same poster as the last 2 post

No Video, only Audio when building a DVD in Encore CS6

Hi everyone!
First post here, and I apologize if this has been somewhat covered in other posts, I couldn't seem to find any similar issues in this matter, and I pray someone here can help.
I'm new to DVD authoring, and just started using Adobe Encore CS6 over the summer. I shot a dance recital, and after following some tutorials, made an awesome DVD that was very well received.
However, my last two DVDs have not come out working properly. I imported .m2v files from HC Encoder (DVD Compliant, max 7500kbps for safety) into Adobe Encore CS6, where the .m2v files say "Don't Transcode." They play just fine in the timelines in Encore.
When I build the DVD to either a folder, image, or disc, only audio plays for the video portions of the DVD. The only way to get the video to play is if I run the DVD through VLC. I tested in Windows Media Center (on Windows 8) as well as my PlayStaton 4, and the black picture with audio persists for each video element of the DVD.
Between making the DVD of the dance recital and the DVD today, I have gone through at least two complete system restores, if this is something that could possibly have made things go awry. If it helps to know, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.

I imported an *.m2v file along with a *.wav file, both the exact same durations and lined up correctly in the timeline. In the project panel, for the *.m2v it says "Don't Transcode" for Status and "Don't Transcode" for Settings; for the *.wav it says, "Untranscoded" for Status and "Automatic" for settings.
That's all that Encore's telling me about the files.
Side note, interestingly enough, I went back and re-exported the DVD of the Dance Recital that I had mentioned earlier, and it plays just fine. (I'm trying to compare the two projects as best I can) It seems as if the *.m2v file that I made in HCEncoder for the recital plays just fine in Windows Media Player, however my most recent ones do not. But they still play in Encore. Needless to say, I'm baffled.

All videos in my iTunes 10.1.1 library play only audio. What can I do? I restarted my Mac, reinstalled my iTunes, no luck please get me some info.

I am a composer so I upload a movie (mov. file) to my digital performer file...I write music, I bounce the music with the picture to Quick time movie and I have a mov. file.
The exported file plays fine on my computer but in other computers only audio is showing, not video...
I tried many other (pc and macs)
Please tell me what the problem is. Does it have to do with my settings?

The MOV file extension refers to the file container and not to the compression format contained within the file. To better understand what is goin on here, you will need to open you file in QT and check the "Inspector" or "Properties" window to see what video compression codec was actually used in the file and them determine if these other systems also have this codec available for playback.

Airplay system audio

Doens anybody know why sometimes i can't select my Apple TV as a output for my whole system audio stream instead of just the iTunes one? It seems to happens randomly, but there could be some things I haven't noticed.
Basically sometimes I am allowed to choose from the sound output preference pane between the integrated speakers or the Apple TV as a airplay output. Sometimes, on the contrary I can still see both of them but also if I choose the Apple Tv output simply it won't be selected also if I am able to select it for the streaming of the iTunes only audio stream.
Actually I don't understant what's going on...

I am using for like four month a A5 speaker and like to watch movies in itunes so as you say in system preferences i choose it for output.
Sometimes it just doesn't work and when click it it back to internal speaker as happen to you.
Sometimes desconect it and conect works but no always
I find that it works more when restart
But anyways i forgott about it,when it happen i just listen to musicas you can do and may next day when i click it it works
Is strange but you no the only one having the issue
Apple is working on it i guess
I just give up and when it works fine if no i just ignore it and try later again and it use to work
I have lot of times the same problem and it reconect after some time lot of times
I am sure is a easy trick there but didn't find it jet

No video in Viewer/Canvas, only audio

I use Final Cut Pro X since Day One and I survived bugs and endless beachballs on my 2011 17' Macbook Pro.
A week ago FCPX stopped playing any video in viewer/canvas while scrubbing. Only audio is audible. Impossible previewing a single clip or playing the timeline. The beachball is immediate and the program hangs and need forced exit. This happens whatever the video source is: only audio plays. Same reinstalling from scratch 10.0.4. Trashing preferences and using quickfix from Digitalrebellion didin't help.
A momentary solution has been creating a new administrator user and working from there, with many limitation and commodities I have "on the other side".
I can't identify anything particular that might have caused this! Quicktime runs fine and so do Final Cut Pro 7, iMovie and all the video compartement.
I searchead the web but nobody seems to have follen in this situation.

There is probably a red light on inside your headphone port, indicating that the analog/digital switch in there is stuck in the digital position. Insert a headphone plug and wigle it around, especially in the horizontal plane, as you insert and remove it several times. This will usually unstick the switch and restore normal operation. If it doesn't, the machine will need to be repaired.
This has been a fairly common problem, but in most cases it is easily cured as described above.
