Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

  • 27: iMac Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter quits working post-firmware

I iMac Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter suddenly quit working after I installed Apple's latest iMac display firmware update. This is an Intel Core i5; the monitor is an LG Flatron 24" Wide, and when it powers up it says "no video input" and goes into power-saving mode. No amount of replugging cables helps, but the monitor works fine on other computers.
The Displays control panel just shows one monitor, and clicking Detect Displays does nothing.
I suspect Apple's Display Firmware Update. My installer log shows the following, but the problem only happened today after the latest update:
    6/1/10 9:45 AM 27-inch iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.0
    6/1/10 9:45 AM 27-inch iMac Display Update 1.0
    6/4/10 11:47 AM 27-inch iMac SMC Firmware Update 1.0
    6/4/10 11:47 AM 27-inch iMac Display Update 1.0
    6/5/10 7:29 AM 27-inch iMac Display Update 1.0
I have automatic updates disabled, but after each update I would see more firmware updates ready, but caution leads me to never install more than one of these at a time, and then to wait a while to see if anything bad happens. The odd thing is that the Display Update 1.0 seems to have been installed three times in this course of events. Alas, there appears to be no way to uninstall a firmware update.
Here is the System Profiler Graphics/Displays output:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 4850
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCIe
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 512 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x944a
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-B9110C-425
    EFI Driver Version: 01.00.383
    Displays:
    iMac:
    Resolution: 2560 x 1440
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Built-In: Yes
    Connection Type: DisplayPort
    Display Connector:
    Status: No Display Connected
It says the Mac sees no display connected, and the display gets no video signal. Since the adapter is an active device (it has powered electronics to convert DisplayPort signals to DVI signals) I suppose it could have just coincidentally died. But that seems unlikely given that the thing worked perfectly just before the last firmware update.
Does anybody have similar experience, or better yet, a fix?

Unfortunately the Apple Knowledge Base does not give much information about this update. Such has how to tell if it has been successfully installed. I suspect that because it keeps recurring in the install log that it has not been installed successfully as yet. Are you receiving this update through Software Update? Can you locate the installer for this update? It maybe located in Apps/Utilities.
Some firmware update installations can be interrupted/corrupted by attached devices. If you find the update's installer on your iMac, I suggest that you detach all external devices from the iMac, use an Apple USB keyboard & mouse if available, follow the instructions carefully and install the update manually. If you do not locate the installer I suggest downloading manually from the link below and installing it.
The Knowledge Base article mentions that your iMac should also have a Graphics Firmware Update. I suggest that you download and install that as well.

I'm not sure what you are asking, but if you want to watch TV stations you can watch on your mac in a web browser on the Apple TV instead, I'm sorry you can't do that.

  • I need a new graphics card for my iMac Apple will not sell me one so I can repair it myself, help

my graphics card as gone on my iMac Apple will not sell me one so that I can repair it myself, any suggestions

not sure which iMac you have but since the old 24" model the video card is not a separate board but a part of the main board so to fix it you would have to buy a smd gpu chip and solder the smd legs manually few people can manage such  feat the only leg compatible gpu chips would work of cause in which case it would be more of a nvidia or amd having to sell you the gpu chip then apple as apple don't make gpu chips

You would need to find a 3rd party authorized vender who may be installing some sort of matte display. Or there are kits on the market to apply a matte finish to your display. AFAIK, all Macs have glossy finished displays.

  • Is an airport express bought after an iMac has the same protection coverage as the iMac apple care?

Hi, I'm planning to buy an airport express in Thailand. I currently have an iMac+apple care which apple care terms states that the protection will cover my airport express as long as the iMac is covered. The apple care guy here said that, the airport express will only be covered if u bought it at the same time as the iMac which is not what the term stated at all. They called all of the apple people in Thailand which still concluded with the same answer for me. Anyone have an idea?

The information you got from Apple Care is correct. Apple will provide coverage for the AirPort base station or Time Capsule if it is purchased with a Mac. Otherwise they do not offer coverage just for the base stations themselves.

  • Slow iMac - Apple help is so crap

    Me again
My iMac supposed to be reliable and fast. Well it is not.
I spend most of my time staring at colorful spinning ball even when performing basic tasks like logging in or opening Safari web page (35 MB broadband is a joke with my iMac performance).
Been on the phone to Apple (have purchased Apple care) and done restarting, reinstalling OS X, checking zillions of statuses, everything is fine, apart from the fact my iMac is very slow.
I have started recording on my video camera my iMac performance to show the great inventors from Apple how easy they took my £1700 and delivered crap. Can very bad performance of 20 months iMac can be explained? oh, and yes Apple Genius (yes Genius) informed me my iMac is old.........
    Attaching history of problems........
If that was a PC i wouldnt be surprised
Ok. This one is tricky> to me.
Last two weeks my iMac (14 months old) with latest Leopard has started playing up - freezing, waking itself up, spinning ball for 6 minutes to open Safari etc etc etc). Eventually I ended up cold restarting it 5 times per day.
I have Mac Protection Plan so when I had enough I called Apple today. The first guy I spoke tried to convince me that it was normal behavior (SIC!!!), and when I disagreed to suggest I need to archive current system by holding C key and inserting installation DVDs. I have been asked to call again after installation finishes to be guided what to next.
So when I did the other guy was puzzled why I was asked to do this and came with an idea that my problems are due to Intego anti virus software I had installed as recommended when buying my iMac. This time I was advised to reinstall Leopard from beginning and wipe everything out. I was told to create a folder and move all my important files (iTunes, Iphoto etc) and back them up using Time Machine and restore after. Easy I thought. But after archiving the system my Time Machine says it cant be mounted as the back up volume cant be found and I dont know how to sort it and back up only a folder. Plus I fear to loose 300GB of files.
Sorry guys I bought iMac for simplicity, but to me its Chineese. I am about to throw my iMac through the window.
    Any idea?

Aside from relying on Intego, the second Apple guy was probably on target with his suggestions. To fix your system, I'd ask you a few questions:
    1. Did you Archive and Install? With a full install, you'd lose all of your data, but Archive and Install keeps your personal apps, etc would remain otherwise untouched.
    2. Have you done any diagnostics, like Disk First Aid or Onyx? This helps some basic issues become they become problems.
    3. What kind of external backup drive did you use with Time Machine? Did you restore before or after your attempted Archive and Install? How large is your external backup drive?
You may have answered one or two of these questions before, but the more we know, the better chance at success.

Hey. thank you for taking time to help me.
Few answers , hope that helps
    1. I have completed archive and install. When I click on Macinstosh HD icon I can see folder called: Previous System. However when I completed installing and logged in, my system was the same (folders and files unchanged).
    2. Done Onyx and Disk First Aid, also trashed all Intego files and restart. Even worse. After 5 minutes iMac freezes and goes crazy. Bluetooth has gone from Hardware.
3.I use Time Capsule with TM. Time Capsule is 1TB.
    Hope that helps

    HI,
First, delete the anti virus software from your iMac.
Next, check the hard disk for errors.
Insert the installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility app open, look at the bottom of the window. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure the available disk space never falls below 10% of the total drive.
    Get Cocktail and run maintenance.

    Hi there.
I am afraid things gone worse since yesterday.
I managed to run Disk Utility and everything is fine, SMART is verified too.
At the moment my iMac is flashing grey screen at me. When is stop, it doesnt recognise my wired mouse.
The cursor is moving, but when I try to click on anything... nothing...just a bing sound.

You might want to keep Activity Monitor open and when your Mac slows down look at that and see what process might be causing the slow down.

  • How to connect imac-apple tv

I'm trying to connect my new apple TV to my imac wirelessly (directly, without a separate wireless router), but I can't figure out how to set up my imac so the apple TV will detect it.
Any info on how to set up my imac so that it will appear when I search for wireless networks on the apple TV?

Thanks - that worked, and it is syncing with no problem now.
As a side note, my imac only has a "g" airport card, not an "n" but video streaming seems to be working fine, even with most 720p Quicktime trailers that I downloaded and transferred to my iTunes library (most played with no problem, but some required conversion, possibly a bit rate issue?)

  • After installing Mavericks on my iMac, Apple Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  Now Mail crashes every time I open it.  What's up?

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail.  Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • New (iMac) Apple keyboard - don't hurry to replace it

I've been a fan of "clicky" keyboards since my first computer, an IBM PS/2 from a long time ago in a galaxy far away. When Matias sold the first "Tactile Pro" keyboard ( http://matias.ca/tactilepro/index.php ), I quickly purchased one for my old iMac; I still use it to this day and love it. So Matias rolled out Version 2.0 ( http://matias.ca/tactilepro2/index.php ) - in colors matching the new iMac, no less - I ordered one the same day I ordered my new iMac.
After using the included new Apple keyboard for a week, I finally received my new Tactile Pro. And I must say, I'm disappointed.
The not-so-obvious problem is the advertised USB 2.0 "hub" which isn't really a hub at all. Matias cheated: the keyboard has two USB cables, the second of which just relocates an existing port from the iMac to the keyboard. Worse, this one (one?!?) port is on the right-side of the keyboard and facing right, where it is typically blocked by mouse placement and thus unusable. What a waste of scarce USB ports.
The above would be less of a problem if the second cable were removable, which it is not, leaving its connector dangling uncleanly off the back of the computer. And that cable is one of two ways in which version 2.0 of this keyboard falls short of version 1.0. The cable is too stiff, too short, and too inconveniently placed. Out of the left side only? Not redirectable like on 1.0 or most any other keyboard? And coming out of the keyboard sideways, instead of forwards? Ugh.
But the greatest shortfall of the new Tactile Pro versus its predecessor is the quality of its keys. Matias has clearly cut some corners on the key-switches: they are much softer and thus provide less tactile feedback. Even worse, the keycaps are rather loosely attached to the switches.
I'm not asking for a refund, as this keyboard is marginally better in its tactile feedback and styling than Apple's new aluminum keyboard. However, the Apple keyboard costs $100 less, uses a more convenient cable (cable_, singular, not cables, plural), and provides 2 USB 2.0 ports, one out each side. I was also planning to replace the Tactile Pro 1.0 on my old iMac with the 2.0 - not any more.
(Alternatively, try to find the original Tactile Pro on close-out or places like eBay.)
    That's my opinion & experience - YMMV.

Probably not - but that certainly does not involve iPhoto for the Mac - you need to look at Crashplan support for you options
And iCloud is not a place to store photos so that is certainly not a possibility
If you restore your masters folder out of the iPhoto library you will have all of your original photos to do with what you please

  • New iMac - Apple Remote Still Attaches?

With these new aluminium iMacs, can you still attach the Apple Remote to the side of them magnetically? In all of the Apple press images, the attached Apple Remote is mysteriously absent. Have they phased that idea out?

They do have a magnet but no one is telling you about it. On the new imacs it is on the right side of the glass where the black band is. Mine is incredibly weak and the thing keeps sliding down the screen (what about scrathes!) and falling on the table. Plus it just looks crappy. hold your remote up and you'll find a "kind of" magnetic area. I have no idea why anyone would want a white remote in the middle of their shiny glass screen.
The old idea was better. I'm going to buy a little velcro sticker and keep the remote on the lower right side. Better than on the glass or lost.
