HT204308 ITUNES KEEPS WIPING OUT ALL MY DOWNLOADS WHAT IS GOING ON

ITUNES KEEPS WIPING OUT ALL MY DOWNLOADS AND IT TAKES HOURS TO RELOAD THEM AGAIN, MY LIBRARY IS SUDDENLY EMPTY WHAT IS GOING ON

Hi
Check and see what version of iTunes you are using. If it's version 11 or 12 in any flavour the default is to delete podcasts after they are played. You have to go into podcast settings and tell iTunes not  to delete your podcasts (settings will also show how often to update podcast feed). After that EACH AND EVERY PODCAST episode you download has to be saved or iTunes will take the liberty of deleting those episodes after they have been played (at least that is my experience). Also iTunes behaves very differently in Podcast and episode views of podcasts.
Hope this works for you.

  • Latest version of iTunes update wiped out all my music

I just installed the latest iTunes update and it wiped out my whole music library.  What do I do now?  How do I get it back?  All I did was press the Install Link. I have done this a dozen or more times with no problem.  I highly recommend NOT installing the update until Apple fixes this Glitch!!!!

  • The newest v. of iTunes has wiped out all playlists and my entire library

Updated to newest v. of iTunes, go on today for the first time.  My entire library is gone, all playlists, everything!  I plug in my iPod, and it tells me its synched to another iTunes Library, well this iPod has never been synched with any other library or computer.  Complete debacle, and if its an easy fix, its still wasting my time.  Maybe a mod should jump on here and tell me the fix.

iTunes doesn't actually care what the name of the file is, or update it, it just use the same one it opened last time.
The instructions were to copy the dated .itl file into the main iTunes folder and give it the standard name of iTunes Library.itl. While the archive version will often work from within the Previous iTunes Libraries folder iTunes will then start putting other supporting files in ..\iTunes\Previous iTunes Libraries instead of ..\iTunes. Next time you upgrade you'll find you have a new folder at ..\iTunes\Previous iTunes Libraries\Previous iTunes Libraries
The repair instructions are now slightly different.
Copy your active library file into your iTunes folder. If present, rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and continue to hold down the shift key until asked to chose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the library file in the iTunes folder. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • How can I get my "contacts" back on my iPod classic.  ITunes wiped out all my contacts and there is even no place for contacts any more on my macBook.

How can I get my "contacts" back on my iPod classic.  iTunes wiped out all my contacts from my iPod classic and now I no longer even show a place for contacts on my computer when I plug in my iPod.

You don't download iTunes by connecting your phone to iTunes and yes of course, by syncing your phone with your husbands computer, of course you will have lost all your stuff and you will have his.
When you connect to iTunes, you sync.
To get back all your things, then you need to sync your phone to the computer that you used originally to set your phone up - if this is your computer, then connect your phone to that and sync it with iTunes on that and you will get your stuff back, but when you connect to iTunes you sync and don't download.
Ringtones should download automatically to your phone and if not, if you are getting them on your computer, then download them to your computer with your iTunes on and double click to get the MP3 file to open in iTunes and then sync your phone to your computer and you will get the ringtone on your phone.

  • Itunes wiped out all data now ipod is corrupt

I bought my 80g ipod classic in March,08 and have never had problems until two months ago. Several times after disconnecting, I found that itunes wiped out all the songs and video. The first time, I lost over 8000 songs and never realized it until I was in the car on a long road trip. My playlists were gone, 14 movies and many video clips. My pictures and games remained however. Problems continued periodically. Sometimes it would eject immediately after connecting. Then it would connect, but not sync anything. Now itunes will recognize it, but says it needs to be formatted then restored. I didn't want to lose everything, but now it has wiped out games and pics also. It is like I just bought it. I have updated itunes to 8.0 and tried to update my ipod as well. Now it is telling me that it can't be restored and that my ipod is corrupt. This is my second ipod, the first was a 20g with pics and I used and abused it to death and NEVER had a single problem until it just quit working. I have my computer set to update automatically for itunes and this all started right after it completed an update of some kind. I have a 2 year warranty, should I relace it? Also, will I lose all the games I bought?

I just upgraded my itunes and now my IPOD won't play any of my songs. Everything is still ther, will let me navigate etc, but just won't play!
    Very dissapointed!
Worst, i can't get my music off my IPOD now, because ITUNES doesn't allow it. And worst still, when i take it in to get a replacement, they simpy take my IPOD and away and give me a new one.
    I'm seriously put off!

You can, but only the purchases that were made from the iTunes Store. Other content that was imported from a CD or other sources will not transfer over.

  • TS1363 ITunes just wiped out most of the books on my iPod, How do I get it all back on?

ITunes just wiped out most of the books on my iPod, saying device (the same one I've been using for several years) is not authorized. This seems to be a response to getting a new computer and authorizing it (while deauthorizing the five I had authorized). Device authorization in Files does not all authorization (it's pale).
How do I reload on to iPod? It's all on the computer.

Do you load content on the iPod manually (by dragging items to the iPod in iTunes), or do you have automatic sycning set up?
If it's automatic syncing, you need to select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Books there.  This Books screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync audiobooks to the iPod.  Set that up and click Apply.
If you load content manually, just drag the audiobooks you want from the iTunes Books library to your iPod in iTunes.

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago (never bothered to fix it as the dvd drive had also failed so not worth it).   Nevertheless, I finally decided to sync my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music

My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?

Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys.
