I need help...my macbook pro is not starting. I tried everything..Can I send it to the Apple store for an estimate and how much would that be?

Forget about viruses, and don't install Sophos, which is worthless.
First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
One possible cause of a slow user interface is a large number of image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons. If you have more than a dozen or so such files, move them to another folder.
Otherwise, take these steps when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting. -
My new macbook pro 13" just died and i can not turn it on. When i connect the power cort it also does nor charge. No light is commong on. I was working on battery power when it died and the battery was fully charged. What is the problem?
Take it back to the Apple Store for repair since it's still in warranty.

Maybe the wrong port or the wrong kind of memory card? You didn't say what version/year of Macbook Pro you have. Below is a photo of the newest one.
Red oval = USB port. It is to the left of the headphone jack.
Blue oval = SDXC card port. Is your card an SDXC card?

Does anyone know how well the Intel Iris Pro installed on new 15" MacBook Pros performs using Photoshop and Lightroom? I have seen some differing opinions out there, and I would rather not shell out the extra cash for the Nvidia if I don't have to. I mostly do photo editing for business and personal use. I have not used the 3D function in Photoshop, but I would like to know that I could.

i have my serial number. I bought this macbook pro in Cleveland Ohio, and it is still under warranty. Now I am travelling in India and my disk drive is not working. need local help. in chennai. I also need to retriwve my warranty paper online, as I am right now in chennai ad all my docs are in Cleveland.

You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your MBP. Personally, I would not waste my time "troubleshooting" if the normal solutions do not work.
Return the MBP for one that works before your 14 days are up and/or call AppleCare ASAP!!!

I've updated to yosemite from Mavericks, but since i can't connect to the internet I used my time machine back up which was march 2013. Now my macbook pro won't start and ends with a prohibted sign. Any suggestions pls.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite

OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

My macbook pro mid 2009 keyboard and trackpad is not working. it was working perfectly fine a week ago and it stopped. i tried using a external wireless mouse and keyboard but only the mouse will work!! They keyboard lights up when it is booting up but when i try to sign in, nothing types or the mouse wont work. i am fine if the mouse doesnt work because i can use an external one but can someone please help me?!
The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians diagnose the problem.

Late 2011 Macbook Pro battery is toast, and I am not sure why!
I have had my late 2011 Macbook Pro for 3 years and 5 months. Before I left for vacation on July 28th my battery held 98 percent charge. I turned it off and put it in my closet. Now when I have came back my battery holds 2.2 percent, not even enough to be unplugged for a second (128mah). I of course expect my battery to go at some point but my battery has only been through 340 cycles and apples site says the max is 1000. Any suggestions into why my battery is dead after so few cycles? Additionally any suggestions into where I can buy a battery for my computer?

your battery holding 98% charge before you left for vacation doesn’t tell the most relevant information — what its Full Charge Capacity was then. Is 128 mA·h its current Full Charge Capacity, or its current Charge Remaining? That is, is the battery merely drained, awaiting a full recharge, or is it now unrechargeable?
You can buy a replacement battery for your MacBook Pro by taking it to an Apple store, or if you prefer to replace the battery yourself, you can buy a suitable battery from reputable third-parties, e.g. NewerTech batteries from OWC. -
When I try downloading itunes it stops with a message that says the mobile service can not start because I may not have enough privileges. What do I need to reset?

This sounds like a possible permissions issue. Try these steps. Uninstall iTunes and all of it's components. Next, download the newest version of iTunes and save it to your desktop rather than selecting run. Right click on the installer package and run as administrator. How can I connect to Apple TV wireless with Mac book pro. this laptop doesn't have Air play function. Is any app I can use or new update will help me? I searched in web and found that if I go to system prefrences and click on display I can active Air paly but don't see same page in disply of my version of macbook pro. my device is made late 2011 and it looks it is not an old version.

I had my MacBook Pro stolen and I was able to track it via find my iPhone and I chose to lock with an apple password. And I also have a download a 3 year subscription with LoJack? My question is can LoJack still be able to track and find it even thou I locked it via my iPhone?

I had this happen before on a fairly NEW macbook pro. Ended up, the hard drive was blown. I just ended up getting a hard drive. It worked for almost a year and then boom I try to start it up and get this. And I tried to reinstall mountain lion, etc, and it'd let me get through the install process which made me think the hard drive DID in fact work. But then as soon as it was reinstalled, boom the hard drive gone again.
I put in a new hard drive. Flawless. No problems. So in my case it was the hard drive. Although many many other people told me it was not the hard drive. If it wasn't, replacing the hard drive fixed it either way.
It had a toshiba branded in it. I put a western digital 1TB in it. Worked great. Now I have an even newer macbook pro, 2012 edition, once again I took out the hard drive and put in SSD's. -

I have a .Mac account. My mother has a AIM account and a working USB camera. I can communicate no problem when using iChat on my MacBook Pro, but cannot see myself when using iChat on my iMac, same .Mac account. Any explanations for that?
Are you trying to talk to yourself or is this to your Mother ?
The first will not work with the same Screen name. (it will in Bonjour if the two Macs have different IDs in the Address Books)
If it is to your mother then how are the ports iChat needs opened in the routing device ?
If it using Port Forwarding then only one computer will work.
