If you have not set up your new MacBook Air yet, Setup Assistant will ask you to transfer your data > http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupLion.html
There are different ways of transfering your files from an old Mac to a new computer. As your MacBook Air has not got a FireWire port, I recommend you two ways:
If you do not have to transfer a big amount of files -> go for the classic way: through your network. Simply connect your old MacBook to the same wireless network as your new Mac, and open Migration Assistant on the old Mac. Then, just simply follow its steps.
If you have to transfer a big amount of files -> make a Time Machine backup of your old computer onto an external drive. Then, connect it to your new Mac, set it up and follow the steps to transfer your files.
If you have already transferred your files, the steps are the same, but now you have to open Migration Assistant on the new Mac. You can find it in /Applications/Utilities

(1) RA_INTERFACE_LINES_ALL
(2) ra_interface_distributions_all
For open invoices the AR_PAYMENT_SCHEDULES_ALL.STATUS sholuld be equal to 'OP' .

New iMac extremely slow following migration (Help with Etre Check diagnosis)

Hi gurus,
New iMac - scheduled for genius bar on Friday but trying to avoid the trip. Migrated everything over from 2009 macbook pro to 2011 macbook and now 2013 iMac. I imagine there is a lot of cruft from the repeated migrations and am close to just wiping and migrating from scratch. I don't know, however, how to get my old mail and other critical settings over.
Problem is clearly in the user account. I created a separate admin account and that runs relatively fine. Is the below user account salvageable? Should I delete all my old permissions? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for the Etrecheck program,

DMS Data Migration-Help required

Hi,
I don't have enough knowledge on DMS Data migration.
In our recent Implementation, we are implementing SAP DMS.
Our client has more legacy data which is in their server. So we have to upload all the data's into SAP DMS.
I gone through few SCN threads and understand that LSMW & BDC will be used for Data migration.
Which is the best method for Data migration?
We are having 50+ document types and it has different processes (status network), Classification & few Object links.
Please advice me and provide me some examples to upload legacy data in DMS.

Creating these configurations into SAP is one time and should not be a problem.

How much volume of data do you have in legacy system ?
Have a thought on whether do you really need to migrate all these data into SAP DMS ???

You can configure the DMS system and start fresh leaving the document in legacy system as it is.

I am trying to migrate the oracle portal that is configured to use OID from development to testing environment and I don't know where to start.
Can anybody guide me where to start? There has been some development done and I want to replicate DEV to Test Env. I don't know what files need to be version controlled.

I think, 9.0.4 did not have Cloning as the scripted cloning procedure you see in later versions. Cloning feature was introduced in Release 2 of 10g OAS. Please see the following link for description of new features in this release.

However, you can create multiple instances using export/import, or database procedures, and that is supported for portal 9.0.4 too. You can propagate your portal objects across other databases to create identical instances. that may also be used to create multiple clusters and then clone configurations using DCM.

I've got to migrate user data from a G4 PowerBook running Leopard to a new MacBook Air.
What's the best strategy for doing this and how do I avoid getting all the redundant PPC and Classic files coming over to the Air?

A Basic Guide for Data Migration
If you are migrating a PowerPC (PowerMac) system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Note: if you are upgrading to a Mac with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later, or with the intent of upgrading to 10.7 or later anytime in the future, be aware that any applications that are not labelled Universal, or haven't been upgraded to Intel CPU compatibility will not run on Lion or later. Documents may migrate if an Intel native application exists that will open them, but applications that are PowerPC only will not. This also means for any Mac model whose hardware or firmware that has been refreshed on or after July 20, 2011, you won't be able to install 10.6.8 or get Rosetta from it unless you follow a link at the end of this tip. It may be better to get a used or refurbished Mac that predates July 20, 2011. See the Snow Leopard tip on the bottom for which Macs support Rosetta, which in turn supports older PowerPC applications.
Both Leopard (10.5) , and Tiger (10.4.4 through 10.4.11, excluding 10.4.0, 10.4.1, 10.4.2, and 10.4.3) have PowerPC and Intel Mac support, and upgrading to either, this tip here, as well as links to my tip on Tiger and Leopard will help with your upgrade.
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC
System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies
Browser and other plug-ins
Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries

In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.

Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire. You can also determine if you have Firewire by looking at this image of the ports typically found on a PowerMac G4 Firewire 800, which has two 6 pin Firewire 400 (IEEE 1394a) ports below the USB ports, and below that, a Firewire 800 (IEEE 1394b).
The 4 pin Firewire found on many camcorders is just a Firewire 400 port that is not powered by the computer. Cables exist that can convert between all three.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT
migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Migration help - Sybase to Oracle

Hi,
we are currently migration our applicaiton from Sybase to Oracle. Oracle version we are using is 8.1.7 for Windows.ok now here is problem,
In order to update a table we compare more than 1 table, which we can specify in the "from clause of the update" in sybase, but oracle it does not allow this
for Eg: ( In sybase )

The closest I would suggest you can come to this is to use a CLOB data type in Oracle which can hold 4GB of data.
I would suggest if you need more than 4GB of data in a single column of a single row, you might want to revisit the idea of normalisation!
Seriously though, if you are doing a migration, don't expect things to work in the same way on Oracle. The way Oracle works is different in a great number of ways to PostgreSQL. Don't expect that if you faithfully copy every table and index that your system will perform and operate exactly as it did previously. You are going to need to refactor some things and you're going to need to make changes here and there. If there are glaring design issues, it might be a time to approach correcting them.

Be careful porting code like this directly. Reason:
The reasons for using Temporary Tables in Sybase is invalid in Oracle.
In Sybase one needs to minimize locks and lock contention and escalation. This is done using temporary tables. Your Sybase script is typical of this approach - which is valid in Sybase.
However, this is not valid in Oracle. Oracle is at its core designed very differently from Sybase. A single lock in Oracle has the same overheads as a million locks - none. In Oracle, readers-of-data cannot block writers-of-data and vice versa. In Oracle there is no lock escalation - ever. This concept/problem does not exist. Period.
Porting your Sybase code to Oracle will be an attempt at using Oracle as a Sybase. Oracle is a very poor Sybase.
I urge you not to do a direct port. You will become very frustrated with Oracle. You will conclude that Oracle sucks. Use Oracle as it has been designed.. or IMO, bluntly put, do not use it all.

My macbook pro froze after migration, help!

I used migrate assistant to migrate from my backup hardrive to my new macbook pro, the process went well until time to restart, now my computer is stuck at 'finalizing your migration' page and nothing else happens. It's been this way for hours. I have tried a hard reboot but no luck. Help!

HT204350 Migrating from a 2010 MBP to a 2013 iMac - stuck halfway through???

I have begun migrating from a 2010 MBP to a 2013 iMac after installing mavericks on both. They are connected by ethernet. The MBP isn't updated to the latest version because it was installed from a previous copy from apple. The migration has started and is stuck on 1 hour19 mins, what should i do? is it safe to somehow stop the migration process? or is it best to leave it be for a few hours or something? i had a lot of trouble starting the process as i had to try multiple times to get it to locate all the files and folders on the MBP. Thanks for the help.

Leave it for some minutes to see if the migration process continues. If not, simply turn off both Macs, turn them on and transfer the files again.
If the migration gets stuck again, consider the option of making a Time Machine backup of your old MacBook Pro onto an external drive, and then use that backup to restore your files to the iMac. The steps to restore a backup from an external drive are the same.

Migration help... from Powerbook G4 12" 1.5 to Macbook Pro 13" 2009 2.26

Hi all. My first post here. Finally I took advantage of the educational discount today and bought myself a MBP 13". Coming from Powerbook g4 12" 1.5 ghz, this is a major upgrade. Really Excited about it, but I have some questions.
When I asked a sales person at the Apple Store about data migration, she suggested I do it with a FW400 and 800 cable. After coming back home I checked some forums and found quite a few people complaining a major headache after using migration assistant and transferring everything from PPC mac to Intel mac. So, I guess my questions are...
What is the best way to transfer data in this particular situation?
What should I do with itunes library, iphoto library, ical, and safari bookmarks and stuff if I chose to transfer files manually?
By the way, I have Tiger on my PB, and Leopard on MBP.
I'd really appreciate you educating me. Thank you very much for your time!

I tried to do exactly the same as you, transfer from a PowerBook G4 to a new MacBook Pro. For me Migration Assistant failed on every count so had to do it the manual way. I was also Tiger / Leopard by the way.
First up if your PowerBook will boot into target disk mode then you are halfway there.
You need to do a few things first.
If you use iCal export it, use file export, and save it say in your documents folder.
Contacts again export as vCard, select 'All' in the left hand pane and then select Export, save it again in your documents folder.
Now with the PB in target mode connect to the MBP and copy across the documents folder. Open iCal on your MBP and import your iCal data. Likewise open contacts and import your vCards data.
For iTunes copy the iTunes folder from the PB to the MBP.
For mail navigate on your PB to user/library/mail now drag that to the same location on the MBP.
For iPhoto, which I don't use, I would suggest copying from the Pictures folder of the PB the iPhoto Pictures folder and iPhoto library to your MBP.
Safari again navigate on the PB to user/library/safari and copy that folder to the same place on your MBP.
As regards any applications you are best installing them all afresh onto the MBP, it is the only way they will all work.
If for some reason target mode does not work use a large external drive if you have one.

HT204350 Migration Assistant gives me no option to transfer user account! (but everything else)

from SSD over USB 3

Ok, I need to elaborate more:
I have used Migration Assistant a "100 time" for myself and helping others. Never a problem!
Now I I am trying to simply move my user account from a bootable SSD (10.6.8) to my new Powerbook 15" (10.9) using a USB 3 interface.
It will tranfer everything BUT my user account! I do not venen get the option in the dialog.
Same when trying to transfer (old) Mac to new Mac!
Beats me!
