HT204350 my migration was stuck for hours while it was in the "remaining less than one minute" phase of the mirgration complete

I was using the migration assist from an imac to a macbook air both running the latest versions of mavericks.
The migration strated and bioth computers were on the even count down. At the point when it stated less than one minute to completing the migration assist it just remained like that for over 12 hours.
i had to reboot one of the machines to be able to reset it. Nothing was migrated when restarted the machines.
Any ideas why this happened and what can be done to make sure it doesnt happen again?
I was migrating my system applications only.

just had a look on the apple store. Have found a converter. Will try this. Hopefully will work.

  • Just tried installing an update to OS.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.
    Hope this helps

Maverick has been completing the update with less than one minute remaining now for well over an hour.  Where do I go from here?

    try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

  • Time Machine Migration hanging on "Less than one minute remaining"

I decided to take a risk with my iMac and do an erase and install with Leopard, the version of OS X it's been running for years now. The reinstall went fine migration assistent got me started transferring my information from my Time Machine external USB 2.0 hard drive. It said it was just over 200 GB of information. That proceeded fine until it reached the "Less than one minute remaining" mark. It's been sitting here for over 12 hours in the "transferring files to support applications" process. What should I do? Is it alright for me to manually turn off the computer and re-boot? There is no cancel button or anything. I do get the pleasant clunking sound when I hit enter.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have connected both computers with a cable, disconnect and connect that cable again, so migration should continue. If it doesn't work, restart your MacBook Pro and check that all the files have been transferred. If not, open Migration Assistant and transfer your files

  • Latest update 7.1.2 stuck with less than one minute remaining

I Couldn't download anymore apps and noticed I needed to update my software to the latest version so thought that this would solve the problem. I started the update at 11pm last night and after waiting 2 hours with it on  charge and connected to wifi it still said less than one minute remaining.  Searches on internet suggest a hard reboot but will this loose my apps as some I have are no longer available to get?  I have backed up photos etc to the cloud so not too worried about those.
any advise please   Thanks in advance

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Migrating assistant freezes at less than one minute remaining os x lion

Hi I recently got a macbook pro 13" os x lion, i5 2.4Hz. And i'm using migrating assistant to move my files over from a pc (45gb). The process was fine until it reaches nearly the end where it says cleaning up "less than a minute remaining" and it has been stuck there for ages. My laptop which is the source computer for some reason turned off by itself when it gets to the end of the process. I didnt know how it happened because i was unattened. However the mac was still running. Is it normal? Should i wait or start over again?

  • Why should it take over an hour to export a video that is less than 2 minutes long?

The short clip I have is only 1;51 long, but Media Encoder has been slaving away at it for over 20 minutes and still says over an hour remaining. The only thing I am doing differently with this clip is I have sped up the action x10 to give it a "Keystone Kops" effect. (The duration of the raw video totals about 17 minutes.)  I've also added about three titles and an MP3 sound file. Tried to export first to F4V, then gave up and am now trying export to plain AVI, but it is taking forever!
Dell T3400 dual core 3.2 gHz. Two 1T hard drives in a RAID stripe 0 configuration. 4g ram. Running Windows 7 Release Candidate (which I LOVE!).
The clips are from my JVC Everio GZ-HM200BU HD camera set at lowest picture quality (for longer recording).
    Any ideas?

    OK, well... where to start...
First, as to Windows 7, I appreciate your admonishment, but I have had no problems yet that I attribute to the OS. The main reason I switched to W7 is not for bonus points, but because Explorer will natively show thumbnails of the AVCHD files from my cameras. Vista would not do that. I am sure you'd agree that this is an important and very helpful feature. No other add-in program for Vista have I found would do that for me. It may be out there, but we haven't crossed paths yet.
Secondly, I have had no other problem encoding video before this particular one. Most of the videos I produce are for our company website (http://www.topographic.com) to be viewed as a FLV or F4V file, and there have been no problems with that. I did create a video that was over 1-1/2 hours long that was written to DVD, but that took, without surprise, over 4 hours to complete, including the transcoding and DVD writing in Encore. (This one that was giving me problems is only 1-1/2 minutes in length, and is not being written to a DVD.)
This particular video I tried first in F4V, but when it seemed to be drawing out so long, I canceled and restarted it as an AVI. And that one went on for well over an hour before it finished. The main thing that is different from this video, as I explained in my original post, is that the raw video was 17 minutes long, sped up by PPro x10 for fast action (you can see it here: http://www.topographic.com/video/booth_setup.html - I am the guy in the dark blue shirt).
As a comparison, I exported another video that is not yet completed, just as a test. That video is 44 seconds long and it took only 5 minutes to encode. All things being equal, this video would have taken at least 30 minutes to encode if conditions were the same as the video I was having trouble with.  I have to believe that the problem would be the compressed timeline for speeding up the action.
As further comparison, I created a test video with the raw clips for the troublesome video and exported it to an AVI file. It was a 17-minute video which took 31 minutes to encode. This seems to be consistent with my previous test.
In all other aspects I have had no serious problems with my videos and PPro CS4. A few little niggling problems here and there, but mostly due to my inexperience with the system (as my previous postings seem to adequately bear out).
As for my being an engineer: make that former engineer. I am now an IT and communications guy. But you can see what kind of stuff I designed by looking here: http://www.geocities.com/wanorman2000/gallery.htm.
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Installation stuck now for four hours at "less than one minute remaining"

I've seen this occasionally, but using a full OS X installer, I've now been stuck at the<1 minute mark for several hours. I'm going to give it through the night, but I've often not seen this resolve. Should I continue?

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly to restart.

  • HELP! LOCKED IN LIMBO W/MIGRATION ASSISTANT DATA TRANSFER:  "LESS THAN 1 MINUTE LEFT" FOR 10 HOURS

This has happened before. I'm migrating from one Macbook Pro to another Mac (though it doesn't seem to matter if it's a MBP or other Apple powerbook) and it gets almost to the end of the bar with the blue water line a sliver away from finishing but it stays at "less than one minute remaining" as it finishes up migrating settings. Going on 10 hours now.
Have read other discussions from 2009 to earlier this month w/this issue. Some say it's a Lion OS issue that's been acknowledged as a flaw. Others had the same issue w/Leopard & say to ignore the remaining minute & leave it alone until it finishes which could take a day or more. I'm moving almost 300 GB of data. I've done this before and had same issue and interrupted it. I manually migrated over applications, documents, etc, one by one and it still took overnight just to do some of the data, so this is  not an inordinate amount of time.
If it's going to complete, I'll let it run. If it's not, I'd like to know so I don't waste more time trying... Thanks in advance for assistance w/this conundrum.

I'm not a big fan of migration assistant, because this happens all the time.  I'd give it a few more hours, then say "I give up."
Why didn't you use the Setup Assistant on the target mac using the firewire disk mode?  I don't have absolute evidence, but you rarely see issues with people who use the Setup Assistant with a newly installed OSX (or brand new Mac).

  • Migration stalled with "less than a minute remaining"

This issue was discussed back in April, but no definitive solution was found.
I installed Mountain Lion on an older MacBook Pro and all went well until I got to the Setup Assistant after restart. The migration of my files from a Time Machine backup stalled with "less than a minute remaining" while "transferring files to support applications". Apparently this is a known issue that affects older Macs upgrading from Snow Leopard. I have two questions about this:
    1. Can anyone suggest a fix or workaround for this problem? In the earlier thread, some people repeated the file transfer several times with exactly the same results. One person evidently had better luck when he started over and deselected everything but Users on the transfer options screen; but it obviously requires alot of extra work on the user's part to reinstall every application.
    2. What is the best way to abort the stalled transfer without risk of damaging the data on my Time Machine backup drive? Mountain Lion refused to install on my startup drive until I erased it, so my Time Machine backup is the only copy I have of my data. Since Setup Assistant is not frozen, I can hit command-Q and Setup Assistant offers to shut down; but is the data on my backup drive at risk if I shut down and start over?
    Thanks!

Has your Migration Assistant actually crashed? I am restoring my computer from a hard drive failure and the following dialog has been displayed for the last 12 hours. I clicked on the App in the dock to see if it was displaying as crashed, it doesn't appear to be.
I checked the "Get Info" on the Hard Drive Volume, and it is showing a very slow progression of used bytes. I suspect the transfer is still continuing, just very slow as I have so much data. I think it is a matter of quanity of files rather than "file size".
Should be interesting to see in another day or so to see if it completes. :-)

  • If you migration hangs at "less than a minute remaining," maybe ok still

I just wanted to describe my experience using the Migration Assistant app with my new 15" MacBook Pro i7 model.
I had a Core2Duo MacBook (black casing) with about 185GB of data on it. I setup the Migration Assistant process to import the data to my new Macbook Pro, after about 4 hours of importing it hung at the 10 minute remaining point telling me to check my connection (ethernet) for problems. I changed out the ethernet cable and had to click "continue" about 3 times before it started working again.
Then at the "less than one minute remaining" point, which was an hour of waiting for me, I called Apple Support and basically we determined it wasn't going to move and just canceled and rebooted.
At first it appeared nothing transferred to the MacBook Pro because I was greeted with the choose language prompts upon first rebooting. However, just go through those as normal, choose NOT to import any data then go to the desktop (you may still have to create a dummy login account) then go to Accounts and choose the one you migrated which hopefully is there, then just delete the dummy account.
Glad I realized this before going through another 4+ hour migration!
Hope this can help someone if it happens to them.

I ran into something similar yesterday while running Migration Assistant.
I solved this riddle myself by turning off the WiFi on both computers. For some reason, with an ethernet connection checked, the Migration Assistant still chose to transfer my data via WiFi with quickest time estimate of over 24 hours.
The only other time I did this with Migration Assistant, it apparently used the ethernet cabling right from the start.
This latest attempt is only going to take about 2 hours. As to why Migration would choose wifi when there was a valid ethernet connection available, I'll leave that to the experts. With AirPort turned off, I transfered about 120GB of data in slightly less than 2 hours.

  • Osx Lion reinstall stuck at less than a minute

hhere is the deal. I had to reformat my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after it would freeze up after startup. I reformatted and everything went fine other than the 7 hours it took. I went to reinstall osx lion and it gave me a total time of 12 plus hour. Now it has been stuck at less than a minute for almost an hour. I'm totally nervous that all this time has been wasted for this stupid macbook to just freeze up again. Any suggestions or is this normal??

I've got the exact same problem. My mac started to freeze up at random. This made it impossible to use. After I tried to reinstall everything, by potentially thinking that it might be some vius, or corruption. I've now been trying to reinstall eveything for aprox 6 hours and I'm stuck at 'less than one minute' and been so for around 2 hours.

  • Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?

Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?
    Anyone else having this?
Shall I just wait or can i force shut down or anything like that?
    Thanks.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.
    Thanks.

  • "Less than a minute remaining" for over a few hours with Migration Assistant

    Hi everyone,
I am migrating to a MBP Retina running latest 10.7. I am using migration assistant to import a user from my new Time Capsule.   It's stuck on "Less than a minute remaining" for over a few hours that I noticed it.  What should I do?
(Yes, I am on Wireless N and I do not own a ethernet adapter)
    Any help,suggestion, wait/not wait?
    Thanks,
    Chester

my recommendation stems mostly from what others have replied to similar posts. I personally think it is probably done, and a hard shut down and restart will probably work. but also see this good reply from WZZZ
