HT204368 Using iPhone 4S in car for hands-free calling

I am having real trouble using my iPhone 4 S to make hands-free calls from the car. The combined earpiece and microphone I have always used without problem on my Nokia keeps getting silly results with Siri!
I just want to be able to make and receive calls using my Contacts List, and get Siri to recognise my voice when I ask for someone on the Contact list!
If I say I want to speak to 'Stephen Farley' it will come back with 'I don't see Stephen Bali in your contact list'!
Maybe I am doing something wrong?!
Also, will the 'voice regonition' work if Siri isn't working because it's out of contact with the internet?
I just need a simple connnection to my Contact List, without all the fancy options of Siri  - which are just a pain!
Any help gratefully received!
I

I have one of those stereos bought from Ebay, no badge, no name, and with multitude of functions,and a mic attached to my visor. Once it is paired with Iphone, all my music and calls go through the car stereo.
for applications that do not direct Audio through BT such as CoPilot (GPS navigation) I connect the Iphone through headset socket and into the stereo AUX input and works great (all sounds, voice,calls) go through it. One disadvantage of this method is that I can't listen to the radio. Well you cannot have it all. Or perhaps there is a Radio application where it plays in the background while I still use my GPS application.

  • Xperia M4 Dual auto SIM selection for hands-free calls

    When using my hands-free kit in my car to dial a number, I have to select which SIM I want to use from the phone screen, which is dangerous and not really hands-free. How could I configure the phone so it dials from the same SIM when I'm using a Bluetooth hands-free kit ? I had this on my previous two dual-SIM phones that were not Sony... Thanks for helping.

    I exact problem - you can not choose which SIM card to use to make calls, especially when I'm driving. I need to unlock my phone, select SIM card to make the call ... Is there any job application that can make the choice of default SIM card?

    Hello there stidhambr15,
    I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

    Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

  • HT204387 How can I transmit my iphone numbers into my car's hands free system?? I have paired the two but do not know how to transmit.

    Having just moved from a Blackberry to iPhone 5C I have been trying to move my contacts into my car's Hands Free. I have paired the device but became stuck when it advised me to transmit the contact list.
    How do I find instruction on how to transmit?
    WRJ5

    The movement of contacts from the phone to the vehicle is handled by the vehicle. There is no setting on the iPhone to move the contacts. Check the user guide for the hands free system in your vehicle. Mine does it automatically, but there is a setting in the car's system that is set by default to move them.
    EDIT: I'm sorry, you can also check the phone. Go to Settings>Bluetooth and find your vehicle. Tap on the small on the right side and that should bring up another settings page, mine does. There you can check "Sync Contacts". It should then sync when you connect the phone to the vehicle, unless the vehicle also has a setting.

    What is the best way to connect the latest iphone to a 2010 mini Cooper S for hands free operation?

    Does anyone have any suggestions of what kind of hardware I should purchase to do this? Basically, I want a jam-up iTunes server that serves everything to each device (sorry, should have worded it this way sooner! . Maybe a MacMini server would do it? Or possibly just a Mac Mini or would Time Capsule do something like this?
    i use an old G4 Mac Mini running 10.5 Leopard, and it's on 24/7
    it runs in headless mode (ie no monitor) and i remotely administer it using remote desktop (or logmein if i'm out the house).
    i have a 1TB WD Mybook hanging off it connected via Firewire and that stores all my itunes content.

  • 3G iphone cannot support video call & bluetooth only can for hand free

    Hai... So suprise that the 3G iphone was below expectation. What a disappointment. They cannot even support 3G Video call and worst of all the blue tooth can only be used for hand free.
    The software engineer should look at way to develop a more advance software and use.
    Problem encounter:
    1. We cannot copy and paste our text.
    2. Cannot scroll back to the last function we can only press the short cut key to get back to the main page and start all over again.
    3. 3G phone that cannot make 3G call
    4. Bluetooth function can only use to connect to hand free not able to send photo, music and etc...
    5. Cannot forward SMS
    Here is some of the pointer. I have not fully explore the hp. totally disappointed and thing there is more. Hopefully more software update will solve this problems.

    Hi everyone!
    Just a quick update here, but about two days since my original post, I've made a visit to the AT&T store with my dad, even though AT&T has nothing to do with the phone itself.  Then the AT&T service employee told us that a hard reset should do the trick.  Then before I did a full backup and restoration of my iPhone software, my dad called AT&T with no luck.  He also attempted to call Apple, but without success, b/c the phone was out of warranty.
    So, as a last resort option, I performed a backup and did a full reset of the iPhone using iTunes to restore the phone back to where it was since the last iOS update, and the last iCloud backup.  The result:  it was worth the option because the whole phone's WiFi and Bluetooth got malfunctioned sometime few days ago and after that iOS 6.1.3 restoration, I got both the WiFi and the Bluetooth functions working properly!
    The next time any iPhone user comes up with this same situation as mine in the earlier post, don't try visiting the AT&T store b/c they won't help with anything with the phones themselves, and backup and restore the whole iPhone as a last resort when every easy solution fails.

  • Where do I find help contecting my IPhone 4 to my cars bluetooth hands free system?

    Where do I find help contecting my IPhone 4 to my cars bluetooth hands free system?

    Try the owner's manual or your dealer. Some in car systems have updates available to support iOS 4.
    It might be hlepful if you gave us a little more information, like what kind of car, what, exactly, you've done to try to get it working and what the problem you're having is.
    Some cars have systems that will do things like read you text messages and e-mail. Those features are NOT compatible with the iPhone.

  • How do I make a hands free call with the iphone 4s?

    How do I make a hands free call with the iphone 4s?  I have a bluetooth car device and when I try to talk through it (as I did with my old phone) to call someone it does not work.  so far only hte last person called is redialed.

    That is a carrier-based service. So first you have to make sure your service contract includes that feature.
    It usually also includes Call Hold. So you call the first party, put them on hold, call the second, then reactivate the first. But only if your carrier allows you to.

    FaceTime is free to use. You will not be charged for using FaceTime.

  • Do I have to turn on cellular data to make hands-free calls

    Do I have to turn on cellular data to make hands-free calls on the iPhone 6?  If so, REALLY, APPLE????  I have never had a smart phone and ALL of my low-tech phones allowed me to make hands-free calls and I did not have to use data (which is NOT free) to do it.  I know that I can ask Siri to make calls for me but how do I make hands-free calls when my data is turned off?

    Siri does indeed require internet access to function, so yes, you would need to have cellular data turned on

  • IPhone G3 for Hands Free Communications in Car

    Is the new iphone G3 designed to work with a car kit that will broadcast cell phone conversations over the car speakers...like the Parrot system? Of course, one would desire to have ONLY verbal communications (no key strokes) required using the combination of the iPhone and the car kit (e.g. Parrot system) which would recognize iPhone settings to call a person's phone number. This feature would not require a head set unless desired. Such would be 100% hands free as required by CA starting on July 1st.
    Based on my previous research on the subject with the original iphone model there were six protocol profiles that were required and not available on iphone at that time. They are:
    GAP = Generic Access Profile
    SDP = Service Digital Profile
    OPP = Object Push Profile
    HSP = Head Seat Profile
    HFP = Hands Free Profile
    Whether this protocol info is accurate or not I do not know, but at that time Parrot confirmed that the original iphone will not work with their system. However,if I remember correctly, they may not have agreed with the list of protocols required which were obtained from Pioneer. Pioneer makes a car radio model with blue tooth, which also transmits the conversation onto the car speakers.
    Thanks for any thoughts on this subject.

    Hey Shane!
    You could always try going to Toyota and see if there is a firmware upgrade available for your car.  Even though your car is new, there are always firmware releases available.
    New Phones don't always work with older firmwares in new Car Stereos.  With Technology changing everyday you want to make sure your always update on all devices involded.

  • Iphone with Parrot 3200 LS Hands Free Car kit:  photos for contacts?

    Hello,
    Is anyone else using the Parrot 3200 LS hands free car kit with your iphone? I have one, and so for it's been great, but I can't figure out how to get the photos associated with my contacts to transfer to the contacts in the Parrot unit. It synced the contacts no problem, just no photos with them. Has anyone been able to get their photos to come up on the parrot unit? How?
    Thanks,
    Dana

    I have had the 3200 LS for 3 months. I havn't seen the photos transfer. Either my Parrot or my iphone does not work right. They will work showing my address book for two or three days then they will not pair for 3 or 4 weeks. I'm in one of those not pairing periods now. The grey symbol is lit. Under bluetooth it shows that they are paired but they don't work. Anyone got any ideas? I'll try working on the photos the next time it decides to work.

  • How to use iphone as a microphone for the sound to come out in a bluetooth wireless speaker? what app?

    well i want to do the impossible- i think. i want to know if i there is an app that will allow me to use my iphone as a microphone, for the iphone to be able to be connected to a wireless bluetooth speaker, and for the sound, to come out on the speaker. (the voice) without any cables. in order to do some fun stuff like karaoke or just talk.

    Hi redzknzz,
    I see this has been up for over a year with no responses. Did you ever find a solution? I'm interested in something similar. The apps I've seen require the iPhone be connected to a powered speaker with a stereo cable. There are apps that allow you to connect to another iDevice via WiFi, which can then connect to the speaker. No output via Bluetooth yet.
    Have you found anything?

  • My new birthday present (i-phone 4s) does not sync with my 2011 CRV navigation..is there any way the service tech at Honda can set this up for hands free usage?  It is very frustrating to not be able to use this phone like my cheaper old phone.

    My new birthday present of an i-phone 4s, can not be synced with the navigation of my 2011 Honda CRV.  Can anyone give us hints on what to do, as the Honda dealership can not enable the phone to work with hands free.  Help, this is very frustrating as the old cheap phone,worked perfect.  Apple did not make this a user friendly product for cars.

    Start by reading the User's Guide which will provide details for how to pair the device with other bluetooth devices.  This may also require reading the Owner's Manual for the vehicle to find out how to put it into pairing mode.

  • Use Iphone as an speaker for airtunes

    Hi,
    I would like to know if there is a possibility to use my IPhone as a speaker for airtunes, or if it is possible to build an IPhone app and get it into the store to do this?
    I do not mind the lesser quality of the sound, just to enjoy my music from my IMac through airtunes from my IPhone speaker in my garden.
    Kind regards,
    Marc

    Yes, Airfoil for Mac and Airfoil for Windows will do that. I am a happy user of Airfoil for Mac, it's fantastic!
    But what I ask for is an application like that for iPhone/iPad.
    Airfoil speakers for iPhone is the other way around, it's for sending audio to iPhone. Unfortunately, rogueamoeba is not able to make an app that sends audio from iPhone/iPad to airtunes, ref http://www.rogueamoeba.com/support/knowledgebase/?showArticle=AirfoilforiPhone
    So it's up to Apple to give us this functionality, that IMHO is really strange they haven't included from the beginning. After all, all items involved are Apple products.
