HT204370 how do I know if my rented movie is downloading?

I rented a movie.  Itunes said it would start downloading immediately.  Where is it?  How do I know if it's working?

If you open the phone to do some DIY repairs, Apple will not service the phone anymore in case something goes wrong, even if you are willing to pay for the service.

  • HT1498 How do I know when the rented movie is downloaded

I will be flying across seas and I want to download several rentals but how do I know when they are download completely to my iPad so once I'm up in the air I can watch them without being connect to the internet.

There are many ways, such as a gray screen on startup, kernal panics, very slow startup times, etc. These items alone don't always point to a failing HD but are symtoms, also if you hear the HD making a lot of noise, that is a pretty sure sign.
If you suspect  yours is failing it  would be helpful to tell us the symptoms you are experiencing.
One thing you can test for is Disk Utilities S.M.A.R.T. status of the HD, if it says anything but Verified then it's failing. However that test alone should be taken with a grain of salt, because a drive can be Verified but still failing.
If you have ANY doubts about yours, Backup IMMEDIATELY and take the computer to your local Genius Bar or AASP to be tested.

  • How do I know if the program has been downloaded to another computer or not?

How do I know if the program has been downloaded to another computer or not? Also how do I know if it is the educational version or not?

What exactly? Your questions don't make much sense since you failed to provide an explanation what problem you actually have, what program you actually mean and so on. That aside, edu versions are technically not different from the normal programs, just their licensing is different.

  • HT1657 Once rented movie is downloaded, how do I find it to watch?

Once rented movie is downloaded, how do I find it to watch?

I just rented a movie on my iPhone 4 and wanted to transfer it to my MacBook Pro. I then read Apple's FAQ and learned this:
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
*If you download a rented movie on your computer:* You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
*If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV:* It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • HT3209 how long do you keep a rented movie

how long do you keep a rented movie for?

30 days...... but 24 hours once you start watching the first frame.

  • HT1657 Once a rented movie is downloaded do I need an Internet connection to view it?  For example can I download a movie and watch it on a flight?

Once a rented movie is downloaded do I need an Internet connection to view it?  For example can I download a movie and watch it on a flight?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • HT1657 Can I do watch something else on tv while I am waiting for my rented movie to download?

Can we watch something else on our tv while we are waiting for our rented movie to download (Hours!!!)???

Not advisable, the ATV (2n'd and 3'rd gen) doesn't have a hard drive, it is limited memory which is used for streaming only.
Try to avoid renting HD... should not take as long.

  • My film has not totally downloaded, I did not realise this until it stopped 15 minutes before the end, how do I know when the rented film I have purchased has been fully downloaded. Can I retrieve anyhow

My film I rented has not fully downloaded I only realised that when it stopped 15 minutes before the end , how do I know when a film has been fully downloaded. Oi would not have thought the film would not have started unless the film was fully downloaded. The film warned me prior to tarting that I only had 48 hours to watch once starting!

I'm sorry but this is too funny to pass up.

  • TS1702 How do I get rid of rented movie which doesn't download?

I rented a movie a few days ago which doesn't want to download. I want to now get rid of the rented film so I have room to rent others. Does any one know how to get rid of the troubled film?

Try rebooting/resetting your iPad and see if the download completes.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, try swiping across the progress bar on the movie download and see if the red delete button will popup. But I assume if the movie will download, you would want to watch it rather than waste the money.

  • How can I watch an Apple rented movie via Apple TV?

Continue to have a freezing problem with rented movies from Apple. It *****.

What I ended up doing was to back all the out of the choice sequence and the start the movie from the beginning again. We were able to watch one hour of the movie and then it froze again. After repeated efforts to get it to continue, we gave up and went to bed.
For the recoded, the Internet connection was fine. Netflix worked flawlessly. Only the Apple movie connection was dead.
How do I get my rental money back? I won't be able to finish watching within the required 24 hour period after having started it last night...
I thought this problem would go away after having the FIOS service installed. A 10+ Mgb speed stream should feed a movie in jig time. It's certainly helped with download times on software and Netflix, YouTube, Vimeo streaming. Not Apple, which seems not to know how to buffer.
    Frustrated,
    Mark

  • HT1657 lost rented movie on download, how to get back.

I had to update my ipad that had my rented movie on it and it downloaded the iOS.6 system and it completed restored and took my rented movie though I backed up my ipad before downloading.  How can I get the movie back?

Delete the entry in iTunes that is what is stopping the transfer from the iPod, as iTunes thinks it is already there.
    1. Delete the entry in iTunes
    2. Connect the iPod but do not let the iPod automatically sync.
    3. Make sure that iTunes is logged into the same account that purchased the movie originally.
    3. Use the 'Transfer Purchases' option, which should now work as iTunes will see that the movie is not in its database.

  • How to do I have my rented movie played from iTunes? I paid for it and the last time I checked, it was still downloading

I rented a movie called "Holes" from iTunes. I paid for it with my iTunes gift card. It took a long time to download the movie, so I went and took a nap. I woke up and tried to play the film and it will not show. It doesn't even show I purchased it nor does it show it's available to rent. The balance on my gift card shows the movie was paid for. Where is my movie? How do I play a rented movie I purchased for on iTunes?

All purchases are considered final, but you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download or credit you : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If you are on a very slow connection and it's going to take longer than 24 hours (48 hours if you aren't in the US) to download a rental then don't start playing it until it's completed downloading - the 24 or 48 hour countdown starts as soon as you click play.

  • How do I avoid losing a rented movie?

I really like my Apple TV 2, so planned to use it to rent a movie.  Usually I use a Mac or iPad to do this, but on the Mac, the movie is only rentable in SD and I tried downloading on the iPad and playback failed after 12 minutes, never to work again.  The ATV was my last resort.
Twice I have apparently successfully downloaded, and got the message saying it's ready to watch, press Play or Enter.  Since I had other stuff to do, I pressed Enter.  Each time after this, the movie is no longer ready to play, and the ATV says I'll have to wait a few hours.  Sometimes I get the "error in this content" message.
It's been several days now that I've been trying to watch my first rented movie, and it still hasn't happened.  It's downloading for the fourth time as I write this.
After downloading on the Apple TV, must I avoid doing anything else with the ATV before watching the movie?  What will cause an ATV to lose a downloaded movie?
Hope you can help.  Everything else on this box is fine, AirPlay, Netflix, movies/music/photos from my Mac, Podcasts, but this movie renting has been a real pain.

AppleTV 2 is very frustrating in this regard either if you have a slow connection or a data cap for each month.
I suspect you have a slowish connection speed (6-8 Mbps required for near instant HD streaming). I'm on around 4 Mbps and it will take about 40 mins to buffer an HD film.
As you say, other actions unfortunately unpredictably wipe the download from memory.
There is no definite consistency here, but things which have caused this for me include simply browsing the trailer for another movie or playing content from my local iTunes library.  Can't get Netflix in UK but suspect thsi will also flush the download.
The issue relates to AppleTV not having much internal storage compared to AppleTV1 which had a hard drive.
The AppleTV2 has 8GB of solid state memory which is shard between all kinds of tasks, however I don't think this is managed particularly well for downloads which could easily be protected from deletion if they wanted to by simply asking the user when they try to do something that would need this - equally there should be enough memory to hold at least 1 HD movie and perform other actions including playing local content if they wanted to manage the memory in this way.
For slower internet connections this makes renting a chore if you inadvertently do something else with the device as it's no longer ready when you want to watch.
Both for slow connections, and those with data caps, the repeat downloading can really add up - one user notd using over 20GB of download bandwidth just to watch one film.
