I have an 'n' version Airport Express (1st Generation) and want to use it to AirPlay music from iTunes on my Mac to my HiFi in the next room. That's all I want to use it for. Have set it up to join an existing wireless network. However it will only work with an ethernet cable connected to the router. Loses the green light when cable is unplugged. As the hifi is in the next room I want it to work wirelessly, otherwise there'll be cables everywhere (as at present - ugh!) What do I have to do? What setting needs to be changed. Thanks.

Well, I'd all but given up and decided I'd live with it ethernet connected with wires draped everywhere...then I had another look this moring and found this:

I have a non Apple, older (Thompson) router. After a factory reset, and when going through the 'join existing network' procedure when sked for the WEP password you need to put a $ before the password...and hay presto...the set up completes and...AirPlay works! I suspect many might not have discovered this page of support information and will have been as frustrated as me for many many hours!

OK, so I installed vmware workstation 10 on windows 8.1 update. I got the above error. "No problem" I thought, and followed the community and googled advice, I:
1) uninstalled vmware
2) disabled my antivirus (Kaspersky)
3) ran the installer "As administrator" (I'm a member of the local administrators group, so hopefully anything else that doesn't require elevated permissions would be OK)

Looking at the properties of my network adapter (Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM) I see the vmware bridge protocol and the vmnetbridge service is running.
So next I try the "restore defaults" in the network editor - no change. I try removing the protocol from the adapter and I get error 0x80070005 but if i click OK and go back into the properties, it's gone. I can't add it back, because I'm told it's marked for deletion. So I reboot, try to add it, and I get access denied, but again if I close the dialog, and go back, the service is now there.
I'm just in a workgroup and i have not applied any Group Policies...
Happy to try any suggestions...

If your friend is the iPhone’s original owner, tell them to take the device and its original purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.
If not, but you're able to contact the person who set the lock, send them this link and tell them to follow its instructions.
If neither of the above applies, you can't activate the device but may be able to get it refunded. Apple won't remove the lock for anyone other than the original owner(assuming they're alive.)

I know this question has been asked a million times before but my pc has crashed and iTunes has now been synced to my daughters iPod and will not recognize my account

Since the family computer crashed and been restored to factory settings my daughter has downloaded iTunes and set it up with her iPod. I cannot sync my iPad with this without losing all my apps ect? How do I set iTunes to two different accounts?

Hello, This question has been asked before but no answer so I thought I'd ask it again since it's been a few years..
How can I replace the folder icons in a Picture Library with a thumbnail of a photo in a folder? I know I can do something very similar in the 'getting started' list by using a 'Promoted Links List' does the picture library
use the same type of methold? I'd like to see a thumbnail of one of the photos instead of a yellow file folder.

Just my thoughts to add to the excellent answers above.
• BRAND of DVD used - Matters when doing Video-DVDs
Memorex, NoName etc cheap brands usually do NOT work
I only Use Verbatim (more organic dye in these)
• Type of DVD - matters
- DVD+/RW - usually results in problems
- DL-DVDs are more problematic than SL-DVDs
- DVD+R are a more modern sort - BUT PLAYS BADLY or not at all on older DVD-players
I only use DVD-R
• BURN SPEED - matters
- Best in iDVD app - IS NOT BEST at all but results in lot's of Burn Errors = Doesn't play well or at all
I set this down to x2 or x4 max.

BBC Radio on iTunes - Sorry, I know this question has been asked a lot

Hi all,
I'm having trouble searching the forum for an answer, so I'll pose the question which I'm sure has been answered many times in the past.
The BBC's audio streams are fantastic. Now that I've installed the "Remote" on my iPod Touch, I'm keen to listen to their streams in iTunes rather than the BBC iPlayer.
Is it possible to add any of their streams to iTunes? At minimum, the Worldservice?

I have also wondered about this. Want to hear the world service without opening RealPlayer or Safari. Tried to open a stream with the adress from RealPlayer, but that didn't work. Maybe iTunes doesn't support RealAudio? Also tried the adresse you get when opening a stream from BBC Radio's homepage, but that didn't work either. This stream should be in windows media format. I have got Flip for Mac installed and updated. Any ideas out there?

But I can't find an answer to my specific computers. I have an iMac 8,1 and the first Unibody Macbook 5,1.... the iMac model: 8,1 Supports external display in dual display and mirroring modes. VGA output supported by optional Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter. However, I have went to the apple store and they stated my certain macbook can not be used as a second display for the imac nor the imac being used as a second for the macbook. The macbook model: 5,1 Supports external display in dual display and mirroring modes. DVI, Dual-Link DVI, and VGA supported by optional Apple adapters. So how to get it to work???? I don't feel like spending $900 for a display when I feel these computers are capable by themselves, and don't tell me I paid over $3,500 to not have this feature?
This is the early 2008 iMac and the late 2008 macbook

So how to get it to work?
Use ScreenRecycler and a network connection. Except for the current 27-inch iMac, no Mac provides video in capability the way a standalone monitor does.

Same trouble myself a time ago.
Launch Quicktime. Under the QuickTime Player menu, enter your registration number in the first pane of QuickTime Preferences. Not "Preferences," but QuickTime Preferences.

I use my apple tv only to view photos on my tv from my macbook pro every few months - it has always been slightly unreliable and usually takes some fiddling to get working but today nothing is working!! The message on the tv screen from apple tv is that I need to turn on home sharing on my computer but it IS ON!! I have tried turning it off and on again, I have tried turning everything off and restarting but nothing is working today :-( and I have friends coming round for a slideshow in half an hour :-(

The lightroom plugin allows publishing directly to Revel, but there is not a direct way to get photos from Revel to Lightroom currently. You can export photos from Revel to your computer and then open them in Lightroom, but can't open them in Lightroom directly out of Revel. Some users have asked for a two way interface, so we have communicated this with product management for consideration.

Also, when I do try to drag it out of the Trash to put it back into Applications (on the Finder sidebar), it asks me to authenticate with the administration password. I enter it, and then a window appears saying that I can't do that because I do not have permission to modify iTunes. Please help.
