HT204380 I have no sound with facetime on my ipad2?

For some reason I can not get the sound to work wwhen I use facetime. Does any one have an idea why?

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.

(A) Reset iPad

I have surround sound with my LCD TV. Will my new iPad into an HDML connection be able transmit surround sound via Utube, iTunes or whatever?

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

Whoa, I found the answer by clicking on one of the questions in the "More Like This" box to the right. I do wonder how to find that box before posting my dumb question. The answer turned out to be checking the youtube volume control. I turned that up and it solved the problem for Comast as well.

Evidently there is some codec missing that Quicktime needs to play avi files in Snow Leopard. Anyone know what it is or how to get it? VLC is fine, but I prefer the functionality of Quicktime Pro and would like to be able to view avi files there. Thanks!

Every time i google "macbook pro, no sound" each person says their macbook pro audio works with headphones on, but mine doesn't. i have no sound. none. i have tried EVERYTHING! i held down D while i restarted it, i checked for new updates, i restarted it about a hundred times. i am really annoyed right now. i spent a lot of money on this Macbook and i don't want to regret it....

First, scroll to one of the pulldown icons on the right hand of your screen. There's a "sound" icon that tells you if your speaker is working. Use the pulldown to make it louder. Or, go to System Preferences/Sound/Output and look at the bottom of the screen. The toggle on the bottom should be pushed toward the middle to make the sound louder.
If you've tried everything - and it seems you have - you might want to visit your local Apple Store's Genius Bar to have a specialists look at the machine. If it's less than a year old or have Applecare coverage, they'll take care of it in store. If you're not in warranty and don't have Applecare, visit the Genius Bar anyway. They may be able to fix the problem if it's easy, and would be able to put you on the right track to fixing it.
Post here when you've come up with the solution!!

I have no sound with through my display

Hi,
I would love to know if anybody has the same issue as me.
I have a mid 2012 MB Air and the thunderbolt Display with all the updates and latest OSX but I still have problems.
When the display is connected the image is working fine but none of the "thunderbolt" hub functions work.
I dont have the option to choose display audio in the preferences menu and the USB devices that are conected charge but do not show in my OS.
It feels strange to have the latest hardware but basic functions failing.

I've the Thunderbolt Display and a late 2011 MBP and am having no problems. I've two USB devices connected to the 'hub', four external FireWire 800 drives, etc.
You need to call AppleCare - there are a handful of people who have mentioned problems with the MBA and the Thunderbolt Display here. Try a search and see if anyone has come up with a solution. You may have to lug your Display and MBA to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them look at it.

Why do I have no audio with FaceTime on both my 4s and iPad?

Both devices are up to date and on wifi. FaceTime is activated in the settings. I've restarted both devices. If I make a face time call the other person can hear me but I can't hear them unless I mute my microphone. So then to respond to them I have to unmute my mic, respond, then quickly mute again to hear their response. I'm having to do this with both devices. The process is the same with speaker phone, ear buds, or Bluetooth device.

Why we only have stereo sound with Apple TV?

How can I have Digital 5.1 or Surround sound when viewing a movie with apple TV?

To begin with provide more information:
Through what are you expecting to get 5.1 sound, how is it connected? HDMI/optical?
Assuming the movie is from itunes store does it specify that is has 5.1 track? If so check AppleTVs sound settings.

When I try to play a video on Firefox. The movie plays, but there's no sound. I checked ALL of the computer settings, and video settings. If I switch to Google Chrome, and play the same video, I get terrific sound. This switch is done without modifying ANY of the controls....just switching browsers. Why no sound?

It could be a couple of things. You might have accidentally muted audio for Firefox. The article Knowledge Base article [[No sound in Firefox]] will show you how to check.
If that doesn't work, you should look at [[Video or audio does not play]]. This will show you how to troubleshoot any plugin/extension issues that might be impacting your system.

one choose surround rather then stereo without having a surround system connected
all is well when one play media which is not surround
but when one stumple across something which does then the stereo speakers one have connected play
front right and left and apart from action and the like most audio and talking is played out of the center speaker
