  • TA38608 Why does the other person become on hold even if I merge?

My phone merged calls fine in US but I'm currently using a Saudi SIM (conference calls are available) but it wouldn't merge calls right. The other person is always on hold & I guess the problem is not from the network itself. This problem happens in UAE as well.

I asked, it is activated and works properly from what they can tell. Are there any steps I MUST follow? Must the receivers activate conference call?

  • When using Facetime on my iPod touch, I cannot hear the other person.  Help!, When using Facetime on my iPod touch, I cannot hear the other person.  Help!

No, the mute button isn't on.  Yes, I've shut down and rebooted and did a backup/sync as well.

Make a appointment with the Genius Bar at apple. If it is still under the 1 yr warranty it will be replaced free of charge. Or if you have AppleCare you should be covered.

    Hi mduggan,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the other person can't see you during a FaceTime call, first use the Camera app on the iPhone to make sure the camera is working properly. If you don't see an image when using the Camera app, try these troubleshooting steps first:
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
You can find these steps and more information here:

If the camera is working normally, next troubleshoot FaceTime using the steps in this article:

  • I having trouble with my i phone 4 ...when i make a call the other person cant hear me

im having trouble with my i phone 4 ...when i make a call the other person can not hear me

Kayla, check the grill that covers the microphone (bottom left next to charging port) and make certain there isn't any dirt, makeup, spilled soda clogging the grill causing it to fail. My sister had a similar issue with her earphone and while I was in the process of replacing it for the third time I decided to check the grill under a very bright light and it was totally clogged up causing her not to be able to hear her phone calls. Use a Q-Tip dipped in hot water and gently wipe the grill. Just barely moisten it, no need to go crazy with the water. Might as well clean the earphone and speaker on the bottom right too. Anyhow, that could be what your issue is and if so it's a really simple fix. If that doesn't help just replace the microphone. It'd cost maybe $5 and ten minutes of your time to do. Good luck, John

  • On the iPhone 5/5s, can you hear the other person properly when they are lying down?

When I use the iPhone 5s while lying down in bed, the other person is unable to hear me.  When someone who is using the iPhone 5s is lying down in bed, I cannot hear them.
Is this a known issue?  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Does anyone know what causes this issue?  I actually used to have this same issue with the HTC One, and I was under the impression that it had to do with the accelerometer of smartphones.  I do not know of any other difference between smart phones and normal phones.
It's rather annoying, such a basic feature of a PHONE product to be able to talk and hear clearly.  Major fail, Apple.  For this alone, I may consider switching to another phone.
I have found other comments from iPhone 5 users who have the same issue:  http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/11/29/iphone-5-review/
    MICROPHONE
I don’t know if it’s because I have big hands or what, but there many times when people on the other end of the phone can’t understand a thing I’m saying. Specifically, any time I lay down flat on my back, the iPhone 5′s microphones seem to go especially bad. A few times, it’s gotten so bad that the people on the other end of the line hung up because they couldn’t deal with it.

Please Apple.  Fix this significant bug/defect in your product in your next software update.  I know this is a software issue probably related to the Accelerometer detecting that the phone is not upright and then turning off the receiver.  Not sure why you would even want to do that.
It is ridiculous that the iPhone cannot perform the most BASIC function of voice calls.  After all, that is what you buy the phone for... the texting, internet, applications are all bonus.  Phones are used while lying down, upside down, lying on the side, etc.  You are basically hurting yourself and your customer base with this significant design flaw.  Think about all the couples talking to their significant others when they're lying in bed first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening they are long distance.  Think about hospital patients who want to speak with their families.  Think about the homeless on the streets with their iPhones lying down calling people to give them money (or not...).
Anyway, you get my point.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix it.  I only recently changed from being an Android user to an iPhone user... this is seriously my biggest gripe with your product.

  • I can't hear the other person while facetiming on the Imac

I cant hear the other person while face timing on my imac but they can hear me

    HI,
There have been similar issues with iChat and I will use that as an example first.
In iChat the Mic needs to be On (in the Video menu).
It also needs to be listed in iChat Menu > Preferences > Video section > Microphone Drop down and this needs to match ther Mic set up in System Preferences > Sound > Input.
In addition to this the Mic needs to be "turned up" high enough in the System Preferences to work with the app.
So If you Buddy cannot hear you it is your Problem when it comes to iChat.
If you cannot hear the Buddy it is much more likely that they have not set up the Mic in System Preferences or have the Mic Off in iChat.
Moving to FaceTime you will find a Mic Setting in the Video menu (if you have two or more Mics).
If you do then the System Preferences > Sound > Input  and the volume setting there needs to match the choice in the App.
As it is your contact that you cannot hear you need to get them to check their settings first.
As for your end, it will be worthwhile doing a PRAM reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

  • When making a cellular call the other person cannot hear me. FaceTime + Skype Work OK!

    Hi Guys,
    I have an iPhone 4 (non 'S') 16GB Black.
I have the most strangest problem I've ever had on iPhone (I've had every gen so far).
    Here is the problem:
I make a standard cellular call and the other person is not able to hear me. If I make a FaceTime call though, the person can hear me no problem. I tried Skype too and that is OK also. So I know the microphone works, just not over cellular network.
I tried the sim in another iPhone I have access to. (iPhone 4S) and calls work fine on that one. So I know it's not a network issue.
I'm absolutely stumped by this issue.
    I have tried the following:
Backing up my phone, entering DFU and re-setting back to factory, then restored from backup. It worked for a little while (maybe a week?) then the problem happened again.
I backed up my phone again and did the DFU reset but instead of restoring from backup, I ran with a vanilla phone for a while - this time it didn't last 2 days before it went silent again.
I have since DFU'd and Restored my phone 3 more times again but it has not cleared the issue this time - the problem is now constant it seems.
Over the past 3 months, I have restored, reset my phone to get rid of the problem many times, each time with different results. Sometimes it works for a while, other times it doesn't fix the problem.
It sounds hardware related but I keep coming back to the thought of "well if it works in FaceTime, it can't be hardware". But if it's not hardware, what is it?
Any help on this one is very much appreciated.
    P.s. no, it's not muted

no setting need to be changed. you may try these steps http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:
iOS: Unable to update or restore - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - recovery mode (e.g., cannot connect to computer last used to sync device, iTunes still asks for a password)

Does hte iPhone say headphones when you adjust the volume, even when they aren't connected?
If it does, there might be some lint or something in the jack. Take a look at this Apple document -> iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers

I Just bought a second hand iPhone 4S I am having issues with the hearing during incoming and outgoing calls, I have turned the volume up and checked my settings but I still have trouble hearing the other person speak. It works if it's on speaker or if I have headphones plugged in. I need help desperately!!!!! Any suggestions on what to do???

    Hey Itsanaasaunders,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues hearing sound while on a call (receiver wise, not speakerphone). The following resource provides troubleshooting steps for this symptom:
If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203800
    Clear the receiver
The iPhone receiver won't work properly if it's blocked or dirty. Here's where the receiver is:
Follow these steps, testing after each:
    - Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver, such as a case or film.
If you have a new iPhone, remove the plastic film on the front and back of the device.
    - Check the receiver opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the receiver opening with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
    - While you're on a call, turn on speakerphone. If you still can't hear, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try calling again later or from a different location.
    Restart and update
    1. Restart your iPhone and test again.
    2. If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.

If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.
